  • Job Shop Lean

Taylor & Francis Job Shop Lean

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisIn the 1950âs, the design and implementation of the Toyota Production System (TPS) within Toyota had begun. In the 1960âs, Group Technology (GT) and Cellular Manufacturing (CM) were used by Serck Audco Valves, a high-mix low-volume (HMLV) manufacturer in the United Kingdom, to guide enterprise-wide transformation. In 1996, the publication of the book Lean Thinking introduced the entire world to Lean. Job Shop Lean integrates Lean with GT and CM by using the five Principles of Lean to guide its implementation: (1) identify value, (2) map the value stream, (3) create flow, (4) establish pull, and (5) seek perfection. Unfortunately, the tools typically used to implement the Principles of Lean are incapable of solving the three Industrial Engineering problems that HMLV manufacturers face when implementing Lean: (1) finding the product families in a product mix with hundreds of different products, (2) designing a flexible factory layout that fits hundreds of different product routings, and (3) scheduling a multi-product multi-machine production system subject to finite capacity constraints.Based on the Authorâs 20+ years of learning, teaching, researching, and implementing Job Shop Lean since 1999, this book Describes the concepts, tools, software, implementation methodology, and barriers to successful implementation of Lean in HMLV production systems Utilizes Production Flow Analysis instead of Value Stream Mapping to eliminate waste in different levels of any HMLV manufacturing enterprise Solves the three Industrial Engineering problems that were mentioned earlier using software like PFAST (Production Flow Analysis and Simplification Toolkit), Sgetti and Schedlyzer Explains how the one-at-a-time implementation of manufacturing cells constitutes a long-term strategy for Continuous Improvement Explains how product families and manufacturing cells are the basis for implementing flexible automation, machine monitoring, virtual cells, Manufacturing Execution Systems, and other elements of Industry 4.0 Teaches a new method, Value Network Mapping, to visualize large multi-product multi-machine production systems whose Value Streams share many processes Includes real success stories of Job Shop Lean implementation in a variety of production systems such as a forge shop, a machine shop, a fabrication facility and a shipping department Encourages any HMLV manufacturer planning to implement Job Shop Lean to leverage the co-curricular and extracurricular programs of an Industrial Engineering department Table of ContentsForeword. 1 in stock

Book SynopsisToday’s business environment is constantly evolving, filled with volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity and driven by digital transformation, globalization, and the need to creating value through innovation. These shifts demand that organizations view contracting through a different lens. Since it is impossible to predict every what-if scenario in a transactional contract, organizations in strategic and complex partnerships must shift to a mindset of shared goals and objectives built upon a strong foundation of transparency and trust, working together to mitigate risk much better than merely shifting risk to the weaker party. Contracting in the New Economy helps you to not only develop this mindset – but also offers the practical tools needed to embrace the social side of contracting, enabling your organization to harness the value creating potential of formal relational contracts. Briefly sharing the theoretical foundations that prove relational contracting works, it goes well beyond theory by providing powerful examples of relational contracting principles in practice. In addition, the authors provide a practical and proven approach for helping you to put relational contracting theory into practice for your own relationships. First by providing a framework for approaching any contracting situation and helping organizations finding the best contract model for each situation. And then by sharing five proven steps you can take to create an effective relational contract for you own strategic and complex business relationships. For anyone involved in developing contracts —lawyers, in-house counsels, contract managers, C-level managers, procurement officers, and so on — this book will empower you to create powerful cooperative alliances that will help you reach —and surpass — your business goals in today’s dynamic new environment.Table of ContentsPart 1.-Chapter 1: The new economy: Welcome to the contracting paradox.- Chapter 2: Viewing contracting through a different a different lens.- Part 2: The science of contracting.- Chapter 3: Business want contracts: business people do not.- Chapter 4: The social science of contracting.- Chapter 5: The economics of contracting.- Chapter 6: The psychology of contracting.- Part 3: From theory to practice.- Chapter 7: A comparison of transactional and relational contract models.- Chapter 8: When to use a relational contract.- Chapter 9: Choosing a contract model in practice.- Chapter 10: A systemization of contracts.- Part 4: Five steps to relational contract.- Chapter 11: The importance of the right process.- Chapter 12: Step1: Laying the foundations for a partnership.- Chapter 1: Step 2: Co-create a shared vision and objectives.- Chapter 14: Step 3: Adopt guiding principles for the partnership.- Chapter 15: Step 4: Align expectations and interests (architect the deal points).- Chapter 16: Step 5: Stay aligned.- Part 5: Are relational contracts legally enforceable.- Chapter 17: Legal considerations of relational contracts.

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisThis book analyses and proposes solutions to one of the core challenges faced in the Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) supply chains in the oil and gas industry, a field that is currently impacted by low oil prices, emerging technologies and a societal transition to cleaner energies. It describes the end-to-end nature of the oil and gas supply chain, and challenges paradigms and accepted ways of working within the industry – such as wastes driven by broken interfaces, naivete regarding supply chains, and the practice that considers re-organisation to be the answer to these challenges – and identifies opportunities to shift this paradigm towards reliability and value. Moreover, the book shares the authors’ front-line experience and encourages readers to consider deploying the solutions presented in their own contexts. The insights from the book’s 12 modules are based on personal experiences and are industry-generic, allowing them to be transferred to other MRO supply chains. Readers are encouraged to use this book as a reference for their own supply chain transformations. The book is primarily intended for practitioners, including chief operating officers, chief financial officers, chief supply chain officers, engineers and heads of procurement, purchasing, operations, and materials management.Table of Contents1. Book SynopsisThis book discusses the risks of information concealment in the context of major natural or industrial disasters – offering detailed descriptions and analyses of some 25 historical cases (Three Mile Island nuclear accident, Bhopal disaster, Challenger Space Shuttle explosion, Chernobyl nuclear disaster, Deepwater Horizon oil spill, Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear disaster, Enron’s bankruptcy, Subprime mortgage crisis, Worldwide Spanish flu and SARS outbreaks, etc.) and applying these insights to selected on-going cases where such information concealment is suspected. Some successful examples of preventive anti-concealment practice are also presented. In the book, the term ‘concealment’ is used to represent the two distinct behaviors uncovered in the investigations: (i) facts and information about an organization and its functioning being hidden from those that need them – here the concealment can be due to various factors, such as complexity and miscommunication, to name but two – and (ii) the conscious and deliberate action of keeping important information secret or misrepresenting it. This second meaning makes up a surprisingly important part of the evidence presented. Accordingly, emphasis has been put on this second aspect and the approach is more pragmatic than academic, remaining focused on evidence-based practical and useful factors. It raises awareness and provides valuable lessons for decision- makers, risk specialists and responsible citizens alike. This work is also intended as a fact-based reference work for future academic and scholarly investigations on the roots of the problem, in particular regarding any psychological or sociological modeling of human fallibility. Table of ContentsPreface.- Setting the landscape.- Examples of risk information concealment practice.- Causes of risk information concealment.- Major on-going cases with information concealment practice.- Succesful risk information management.

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisThis open access book provides a clear holistic conceptual framework of CISS-F (competitiveness, inclusiveness, sustainability, scalability and access to finance) to analyse the efficiency of value chains of high value agricultural commodities in India. It is based on the understanding that agriculture is an integrated system that connects farming with logistics, processing and marketing. Farmer’s welfare being central to any agricultural policy makes it very pertinent to study how a value chain works and can be strengthened further to realize this policy goal. This book adds value to the existing research by studying the value chains end-to-end across a wide spectrum of agricultural commodities with the holistic lens of CISS-F. It is not enough that a value chain is competitive but not inclusive or it is competitive and inclusive but not sustainable. The issue of scalability is very critical to achieve macro gains in terms of greater farmer outreach and sectoral growth. The research undertaken here brings out some very useful insights for policymaking in terms of what needs to be done better to steer the agricultural value chains towards being more competitive, inclusive, sustainable and scalable. The value chain specific research findings help draw very nuanced policy recommendations as well as present a big picture of the future direction of policy making in agriculture. Table of ContentsChapter 1: Introduction.- Chapter 2: Evaluating Agricultural Value Chains on CISS-F Framework.- Chapter 3: Decoding Value Chains of Tomatoes, Onions and Potatoes (TOP).- Chapter 4: Towards an Efficient Banana and Mango Value Chains in India.- Chapter 5: Analysis of Grapes and Pomegranates Value Chain.- Chapter 6: Towards Creation of an Efficient Dairy Value Chain.- Chapter 7: Poultry Value Chain in India.- Chapter 8: Pulses in India: A Value Chain Analysis.- Chapter 9: Developing Agricultural Value Chains in India- the Way Forward.

Consumer behaviour plays a major role in sustainability, and when it comes to textile products, a number of studies have shown that for certain product categories, consumer behaviour during use and disposal stages influences the entire life cycle impacts of the product more than the raw material and manufacturing stages. • Cross-Border Logistics Operations: Effective

Kogan Page Ltd Cross-Border Logistics Operations: Effective

Book SynopsisWith considerable turmoil in international trade and logistics it is more important than ever to understand trade and customs issues and their impact on logistics operations. At every port and border international freight operations are exposed to trade and customs procedures. Cross-Border Logistics Operations serves as a comprehensive guide and companion to the cross-border trade and customs environment and its implications for international business supply chains and their control. Inspired by the World Customs Organization's Professional Standards (also known as the WCO PICARD Standards), it provides key insights into transporting goods across borders and effectively managing the requirements for compliance and enforcement. International students, business operators and government officials will find the book rich in detail with practical examples that include the political, administrative, regulatory, technological and economic context throughout. It covers all the critical operational and legal aspects of cross-border logistics operations, including: -prevailing trade, customs and border policy -tariffs and import taxes -border management and supply chain security practices -prohibitions and restrictions -enforcement and compliance practices -supply chain and logistics arrangements -disaster relief operations -frictionless trade and trade facilitation principles.Trade Review"Drawing on his many years as a trade facilitation practitioner and academic in the field, including as a contributor to the WCO's PICARD Programme, Andrew's book provides a comprehensive and valuable look at cross-border logistics, the players involved, the challenges faced and even offers glimpses of what the future could look like. This book should be on the reading list for anyone in the public or private sector whose work touches on cross-border logistics and desires a deeper understanding of how and why it all works." * Kunio Mikuriya, Secretary General, World Customs Organization (WCO) *"Building on personal experience, a thorough literature review and years of project practice, Andrew Grainger gets one key message across: successful trade facilitation helps achieve both better controls and - at the same time - easier trade. And the book shows you how to do it." * Dr Jan Hoffman, Chief, Trade Logistics Branch, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development *"This book deals with a topic that is of global importance and affects the economic development of all countries. Cross-border logistics is the basis of international trade. As the subtitle of the book points out, it is about making trade facilitation and border management effective. The author covers all the important aspects of cross-border logistics in the book and also points out the future development. Dr Grainger has produced a refreshingly well-written, seminal book that will serve scholars, students and practitioners for years to come." * Prof. Dr. Hans-Michael Wolffgang, Institute of Customs and International Trade Law at the University of Muenster *"Professor Andrew Grainger's book Cross Border Logistics unravels the mysteries of cross border trade, offering an expansive but digestible overview of cross border commerce. In his book Professor Grainger explains the rules and conventions that define how goods are moved around the globe and in a language that does not assume an in-depth knowledge of the subject. This is a useful guide that should be on the bookshelf of anyone involved in international trade whatever your role and experience." * Steven Pope, Group Head Trade Facilitation - Go Trade, Deutsche Post DHL Group *"Trade facilitation, or how to ease the flow of goods across borders, is a much discussed but generally poorly understood topic. It has long been as important - if not more important - than tariffs for most goods in developed country trade and is of vital importance for developing economies wishing to engage in international trade. This volume is a must read for anyone wishing to understand the processes and challenges involved in goods crossing borders." * Dr Stephen Woolcock, Associate Professor of International Relations, London School of Economics *"This book gives an excellent overview of how cross-border logistics can be improved by simplification and harmonization of customs procedures, often referred to as trade facilitation. It provides a thorough scientific analysis of these issues, explaining the latest developments in regulation, policy making and IT innovations that foster trade facilitation. Combined with the extensive experience of the author in trade facilitation consulting, it provides a rich set of guidelines and best practices that can inspire customs officers and logistics professionals to realize the full potential of trade facilitation." * Prof Yao-Hua Tan, Professor of Information and Communication Technology, Delft University of Technology *"In a time when cross-border operations are becoming increasingly complex and the need for Customs & Trade Compliance is greater than ever, Andrew's book is a timely and extremely useful view of this rapidly changing landscape and should be a reference of choice for any professional operating in this area." * Mark Corby, National UK Customs & Trade Compliance Manager, Kuehne + Nagel *"Kudos to Andrew for such a comprehensive book covering all aspects of cross border trade from logistic operations and customs compliance to coordinated border management and supply chain integrity. It seems he responded to the challenge 'if you don't see the book you want on the shelf, write it'. An essential go-to resource for all its readers." * Dr Mohammad Saeed, Senior Advisor Trade Facilitation and Policy for Business, International Trade Centre *"Unlike most supply chain and logistics books which deal with it as a footnote, this book unveils every inch of cross-border operations; an increasingly important and urgent subject governing the international flow of goods which should be taught at every business school. By focusing on the 'missing link' and overcoming friction between business operators and border agencies, Dr Grainger, a worldwide trade facilitation expert, has produced a much needed, insightful and up-to-date book that is worth every page." * Prof Cristiano Morini, University of Campinas, Faculty of Applied Sciences, FCA/UNICAMP, Brazil *"A spot-on contribution to the field of cross-border logistics management, the role of customs and other border agencies, as well as the facilitation of global trade. I warmly recommend Dr Grainger's book as a key learning and reference resource for students, executives, researchers and policy makers worldwide." * Dr Juha Hintsa, Founder of Cross-border Research Association, Switzerland *"What a great book! There is so little useful literature in our field, and this book fills that gap. I recommend this book to all practitioners and academics in the field of cross border logistics." * Prof. Dr. Albert W. Veenstra, Professor of Trade and Logistics, Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University Rotterdam *"Organisations moving goods across international borders face a multitude of challenges and risks, including successfully dealing with national administrations and negotiating the diverse range of rules and regulations. In this book Andrew provides an insightful overview of compliance activities for cross-border logistics, addressing the spectrum of issues that need to be considered, including customs administration, declarations, prohibitions, compliance and coordination. The book discusses the role of customs and other border agencies within the wider context of logistics and supply chain management, the importance of trade facilitation, and the institutions that contribute to making international trade work, and concludes with a look at the impact on the movement of goods in crisis situations. These insights are drawn from Andrew's extensive career in trade facilitation both operationally and academically. In this book the world of customs and trade facilitation is made understandable, and will be useful to students, policy makers and practitioners. The absence of textbooks covering this subject means that this book is both the first of its kind, and an essential text for anyone interested in trade facilitation, customs operations and cross border logistics." * Professor Stephen Pettit, Logistics and Operations Management, Cardiff Business School *"What an impressive book!. An essential resource for anyone involved in cross-border logistics operations as well as those that seek to mitigate the impact of borders on international commerce. I have, for nearly thirty years, been an active proponent of semantic data harmonisation to encourage digitilisation of global supply chain communications as a migration path from paper and for progression towards Single Window environments. This book provides a textbook for supporting these ambitions for enhanced trade facilitation. " * Sue Probert, Chair, United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT) *Table of Contents Chapter - 01: Cross-border logistics operations; Chapter - 02: Customs administrations, tariffs and other taxes; Chapter - 03: Customs declarations and control; Chapter - 04: Prohibitions, restrictions and other border procedures; Chapter - 05: Border facilities - Operations and design; Chapter - 06: Trade and customs compliance management; Chapter - 07: Coordinated border management and supply chain security; Chapter - 08: Logistics, supply chain management and borders; Chapter - 09: Trade facilitation; Chapter - 10: Borders and disaster relief logistics operations

He also has 10 years' experience with leadership and training within the Swedish defence forces and is an advisor in strategic sourcing for Kingfisher.Trade Review"This book is an excellent description of how to design processes and create value in a supply chain." -- Arja Taaveniku, Chief Officer & Supply Chain Officer at Kingfisher"Magnus Carlsson has written a book that is largely sensational. I have not seen any equal presentation of how an organization can operate efficient sourcing. The book's target audience is broad. It's about to run an efficient sourcing operation with relevance far beyond Ikea. I think anyone who in any way comes into contact with purchasing, executives in charge of streamlining their organization, purchasing managers, purchasers, and even students will benefit greatly from the book's content." -- Björn Axelsson, Professor, Stockholm School of Economics"I like the book - no, I love it! Good structure and incredibly deep but written in a simple way with very relevant examples of the described theory. For me, this book offers a new level - still in a simple way that makes me want to learn more and in a way that makes me anxious to try out my new theoretical knowledge." -- Peter Huber, Group Process Manager, IKANO"IKEA's strategic sourcing methods might not work for every company, but they certainly have a broad reach that goes far beyond the furniture retail niche. This book can help you discover if a category management program is a profitable choice for your organization. And if it is, you'll gain valuable advice and examples of setup and implementation from a real-world practitioner...Connecting theory with practice, the book draws upon existing practices and new tools to explain category-based sourcing, and how to effectively implement it." -- Inbound Logistics"A procurement book that is both philosophically interesting but also as practical and grounded as any I have ever read; it is a hands-on guide...This is another highly recommend book from Kogan Page, and essential reading for anyone who is serious about procurement." -- Peter Smith, Spend MattersTable of Contents Chapter - 00: Introduction; Chapter - 01: Lessons learned at Ikea; Chapter - 02: What is category management?; Chapter - 03: Leading category sourcing; Chapter - 04: The hunt is on; Chapter - 05: Where is the money?; Chapter - 06: Creating value; Chapter - 07: The moment of truth; Chapter - 08: Control performance and create more value; Chapter - 09: Different categories and other perspectives; Chapter - 10: From theory to practice; Chapter - 11: Success or failure?; Chapter - 12: Appendix tools and models; Chapter - 13: Notes; Chapter - 14: References and further reading

  • Climate-Related Supply Chain Risks: Federal

Nova Science Publishers Inc Climate-Related Supply Chain Risks: Federal

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisThe federal government obligated about $445 billion in fiscal year 2014 for goods and services such as disaster response products and telecommunications. Agencies with missions that depend on the secure and efficient transit of goods and services have had their supply chains disrupted by weather-related events, such as Superstorm Sandy. According to the National Climate Assessment, the severity and frequency of such events is expected to increase. Agencies developed adaptation plans in response to executive orders and implementing guidance issued by the Council on Environmental Qualitys (CEQ), which coordinates federal environmental efforts. This book examines the extent to which selected federal agencies have identified climate-related risks to their critical supply chains; the extent to which they have identified and implemented actions to manage these risks; and what is known about the federal governments fiscal exposure to such risks. Furthermore, the book examines the types of climate-related supply chain risks companies are disclosing in their Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings and other channels through which companies may disclose climate-related supply chain risks; how SEC considers climate-related supply chain risks when monitoring and enforcing compliance with disclosure requirements; and what actions, if any, SEC has taken to identify climate-related supply chain risk information that investors may need.

Book SynopsisOrganisational buying is the purchase of goods and/ or services, by one or more individuals acting on behalf of the buyer firm, after a formal or informal consideration of purchase alternatives, and, the integration or use of those goods and/ or services to address one or more buyer firm problems or issues. Organisational buying accounts for about two-thirds of economic transactions globally. However, organisational buying has traditionally been taught in discipline-specific silos. Organisational buying concepts appear in courses on marketing and sales management, procurement, contract management, supply chain management, operations management, finance, as well as accounting. Moreover, most organisations treat organisational buying activities in a similarly disjointed way. This book provides a comprehensive overview of organisational buying that integrates perspectives from across a range of disciplines and organisational functions. The primary goal of the book is to develop a holistic interpretation of organisational buying. It covers topics such as:• Purchase situations.• The organisational buying process.• The purchase decision and the value proposition.• Communications in organisational buying. • Buyer-supplier relationships.• Organisational buying capabilities.• Organisational buying culture.• Organisational buying approach design.• Channels of supply.• Networks and organisational buying.Written in a practical, approachable way the book includes a range of exercises, case examples, learning objectives and discussion questions to support a broad spectrum of organisational buying-related courses.Table of Contents1. • Improving Supply Chains in the Oil and Gas

Springer Nature Switzerland AG Improving Supply Chains in the Oil and Gas

Lower Forever.- 2. The OPEX Challenge.- 3. Supply Chain Development in Oil & Gas Industry.- 4. The Missing Pieces.- 5. 12 Modules for Supply Chain Transformation.- 6. When Culture Meets Transformation.- 7. Getting Started.
