Plastic and reconstructive surgery Books
Thieme Publishers Delhi Textbook of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic
Book SynopsisTextbook of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery is a comprehensive and illustrated work from the land of Sushruta for students, teachers, and practicing surgeons. It is a six-volume set with division of volumes based on the clinical needs of plastic surgeons in developing countries. Along with latest developments, these volumes incorporate landmark contributions, innovations, and techniques of Indian clinicians who regularly deal with unique and complicated conditions. While a majority of authors have been chosen from the Indian subcontinent, a few international authors whose work is considered indispensable for understanding the subject have also been included. These volumes seek to incorporate in one work issues relevant to the developing world as well as insights from national and international plastic surgery practices which highlight newer management techniques along with the traditional methods. This makes these volumes a "must-have" resource for students and practitioners of plastic surgery across the globe. In this volume, Principles and Advances in Plastic Surgery, a very wide spectrum of topics, right from the history of plastic surgery to current and raging subjects like lasers; composite tissue allotransplantation; simulation; robotics; telemedicine and information technology in plastic surgery; clinical photography; human factors and skills in plastic surgery; doctor–patient relationship; and legal issues have been discussed. The authors have tried to explore the basic science behind wound healing, scar biology, and scar management. Repair and healing of individual tissues—skin, fat, and fascia muscles and tendons; peripheral nerves and bones—have been assigned separate chapters and explained in great details. Salient features of the volume: Unravels the haemodynamics of and understanding of the pitfalls in surgery involving flaps. Includes chapters on benign skin tumors; non-melanotic, and melanotic skin cancers; hemangiomas; and vascular malformations as they present the clinical scenario peculiar to South Asia. Untangles the mysteries of regional anesthesia to appreciate the problems of difficult intubation faced routinely by anesthesiologists.

Springer Verlag, Singapore Botulinum Toxin for Asians
Book SynopsisThis book, containing more than 400 photos and illustrations, provides practical guidelines for the cosmetic use of botulinum toxin type A (BTA) in Asians. The differences in BTA treatment of Asians and Caucasians with respect to applicable dose, injection methods, anatomic significance, and indications are clearly described. It is explained how the optimal dose and injection sites for the treatment of wrinkles differ from the guidelines advocated in North America and Europe. Detailed consideration is given to the rapidly expanding role that BTA treatment is playing in facial and body contouring based on leveraging the mechanism of disuse muscle atrophy. Examples that are particularly relevant in Asians include treatment of hypertrophy of the masseter and temporalis muscles and calf muscle reduction. Further chapters are devoted to the use of BTA in the treatment of hyperhidrosis and the intradermal injection of BTA. The book will be an excellent resource for all dermatologists, plastic surgeons, cosmetic Physicians, and other clinicians who employ BTA in Asian patients. Table of ContentsChapter 1. World Scientific Publishing Co Pte Ltd Multi-level Mammaplasty: Anatomical Support And
Book SynopsisMulti-Level Mammaplasty focuses on the modification of the Lassus technique, adjusted for the use in breasts of all shapes and sizes. This method relies on an upper pedicle relative to the areola and involves a lower central breast reduction, glandular shaping, and suturing. The tradeoff is that in order to ensure a fine-line peri-areolar scar, a vertical extension is added. However, this vertical scar fades over time and is partly obscured by the breast. The submammary horizontal scar, typical of the inverted T incision, is avoided through progressive gathering of the breast tissue during the reconstruction of the breast mound, precisely through trimming of the excess skin for a short, tension-free vertical suture. Moreover, the peri-areolar suture is not disturbed by the vertical suture with unnecessary tension. Still, in the larger breast, the vertical scar may extend to the chest wall. We accept this tradeoff and discuss it with our patients before surgery. In this book, the authors present evidence to demonstrate that the Borenstein multi-level mammaplasty technique is safe and allows the precise reshaping of the breast with long-lasting results. Its advantages largely compensate for the addition of the vertical limb to the peri-areolar scar.

Springer Verlag, Singapore Practical Microsurgery Cases: Repair,
Book SynopsisThis book aims to introduce the most recent microsurgical techniques and applications in the pattern of illustrative case presentations, including digit replantation, toe-to-hand transplantation, peripheral nerve injuries especially total brachial plexus avulsion injury, surgical flaps. Microsurgery appeared to be a great procedure suitable for more applications. Anatomic research of the blood supply of skin, fascia, nerve, muscle, and bone identified flaps could be carried by pedicle vessels. Transfer of these flaps and revascularization by micro-vascular anastomoses of the arteries and veins set the stages for free flaps. In free flap surgery, single-stage and complex reconstructions could be achieved, which then lead to earlier mobilization and better restoration of function with a shorter hospital stay. Today, microsurgical technique is fully matured, and micro-vascular free tissue transfer is an essential part of reconstructive surgery. Development of microsurgery in China is introduced in the initiation of the current book. Key technical points and experience of replantation, reconstruction, tissue repair, nerve repair and reconstruction, oncological repair and reconstruction cases together with other applications of microsurgery are further demonstrated.Table of ContentsPart 1 Upper limbs and hands 1 Successful replantation of the distal phalanx of the little finger in a newborn: A case report 2 Replantation of Springer Verlag, Singapore Indian Ethnic Rhinoplasty: A Surgical Guide
Book SynopsisEach racial and ethnic population has their own nasal characteristics, which need to be considered when planning rhinoplasty surgery. This book is probably the first of its kind in the Indian context highlighting the goal of maintaining ethnic identity congruent with the patient’s facial features and establishing Indian standards for gauging the success of the surgery. This is important as most of the rhinoplasty books have addressed these issues of the Caucasian or southeast Asian population and Caucasian normative standards of facial analysis. This book provides a broader understanding of ethnically specific features. It highlights the regional variations within India and their implications for rhinoplasty Surgery, thereby filling the void of lack of knowledge of the intricacies of surgery on Indian noses. It deals with important topics such as preoperative evaluations, determining factors such as thickness and texture of skin along with the various complications that may be encountered. It simplifies and facilitates learning with numerous pre-operative, intra-operative, and postoperative photographs. This book provides a systematic approach to Rhinoplasty surgery in Indian patients with an emphasis on addressing the functional aspects along with the cosmetic aspects. This book is a must-have for trainees in rhinoplasty and plastic surgery courses along with facial plastic surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, and aesthetic surgeons operating on the Indian population across the globe.
