Book SynopsisA story that celebrates kindness, inclusion and diversity as well as speaking up against injustice as taught by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in a non-preachy way.Sami is a quiet boy who does not enjoy going to school. He has no real friends and is often on his own. But things begin to change when a new boy, Gamba, joins his class. When Sami sees the others teasing Gamba, will he be brave enough to find his voice and speak up? Speak Up Sami is an empowering story about courage, kindness and friendship providing plenty of learning opportunities both in the home and classroom.Trade Review“This is an excellent book about a young boy, Sami, who is quiet and shy and doesn’t like going to school. He feels left out but doesn’t know how to join in. He feels picked on but isn’t confident enough to speak up for himself. When schoolmates begin to pick on a new kid at school, Sami feels bad for Gamba. Sami has been taught to speak up and take action when something seems wrong. Emotive illustrations really help littles feel what the characters are going through." The Collector of Heads-A Fuse 8 Production/Betsy BirdA beautiful book with a powerful message about standing up against bullying: both Sami and Gamba are so relatable. Love the Hadith quoted at the end. -Dr Neha Qazi, (Author) My daughter loves Speak Up Sami! Almost obsessed with the classroom scenes and the schoolyard scenes. She loves the ones with a hearing aid and ear defender. (I have a hearing aid, she has the noise canceller so she totally recognises those). Well-loved book in our house, thank you. - Anita Bagdi (Children's Book Illustrator) I’ve just read your book and Masha'Allah it’s beautiful! The story, the illustrations, and what kids can take away from it. My son has already read it and says it's "very wholesome and has a lovely message." - Isla Khan (Homeschooling Mum)So much love for this book! Big messages are perfectly written in a relatable way for little minds. - Mrs Din (Teacher) He absolutely loved it! I could totally relate to it and enjoyed the friendship between Sami and Gamba. In his own words, "It is awesome!" - Mrs Aziz (Teacher) I adore the overall message of tolerance and respect for others and believe this story does a fab job of highlighting the significance of celebrating our uniqueness and differences. - Sarah Javed (Educator)

Book SynopsisWhen Lauraa.k.a. Masterpiece Robotheads into the backyard with her little sister Mollya.k.a. Sidekickher active imagination places them instead on patrol around the perimeter of a dystopian city, guarding against super villains. Then older sister Ambera.k.a. Valerie Knick-Knackthrows handfuls of fallen leaves at them, unknowingly initiating a battle for the ages. The transitions back and forth from suburbia to dystopia in this story within a story are deftly rendered with contrasting palettes. The rollicking interactions of the sibling heroes and villains make Masterpiece Robot pure fun to read. Lexile Level 900 Fountas and Pinnell Level VTrade Review"Comic-book action, an innocent backyard, and four siblings with wild imaginations combine to create an adventurous afternoon. A girl of mixed Asian/white descent named Laura heads out into the front yard with her little sister, Molly, to help rake leaves. But Laura has a secret identity—Masterpiece Robot—and so do her siblings. To them, the outside world offers exciting perils and the potential for adventure. Each vivid, dynamically illustrated spread splits into comic-book panels that alternate between brightly colored reality and a somber comic-book world in which Masterpiece Robot and Sidekick (Molly) battle the Ferocious Valerie Knick-Knack, an older sister, with the help of their brother, Lord MekMek. The children crash and smash through piles of leaves in a sci-fi battle with spaceships, blasters, and robot parts as our heroes try to save the world. Humorous text, split between dialogue and narrative in a manner typical of comic books, asks, "Will the world as we know it become forever shrouded in despair, misery, early bedtimes, and extra servings of vegetables?" Family, imagination, and the endless possibilities of outdoor play intersect at the core of this lively, memorable story, written by a Vietnamese-American graphic novelist. This story neatly celebrates the dailiness of a diverse family and the magic of togetherness in the face of all kinds of adventure. (Graphic fiction. 7-11)" -- Kirkus" This one is such a fun read, and one kids will definitely relate to! It also lets adults relive those childhood memories where ordinary things – such as a pile of leaves, or a large cardboard box – can turn extraordinary with just a bit of imagination. The transitions back and forth from suburbia to dystopia in this story within a story are deftly rendered with contrasting palettes. The rollicking interactions of the sibling heroes and villains make Masterpiece Robot pure fun to read. I love this book! I love the story, I love the spread of imaginative play, and I love the humor! It is so smart how the author and illustrator told both stories: the literal and the imaginative, and both stories are developed and fun to read together AND separately. This made for a quite complex book which is also really appealing to kids (and parents/teachers). I’m also a big fan of the artwork in the book. The illustrator did an amazing job changing the style just a bit for the imaginative and the reality but also kept her signature style in both. The illustrations definitely added to the narrative making this book a must get. I also loved that this is a sci-fi picture book because not many exist. " -- KELLEE - UNLEASHING READERS" No author, no matter how talented, no matter how many pages written or how wide a scope cast, can rival a child for sheer, unbridled imagination. Children are natural-born storytellers, and, unlike most adults, they don’t have built-in limits for what makes sense or what can logically follow a given event. Kids are awesome that way. Masterpiece Robot brings a little bit of that childlike magic to life, offering a split-screen view of reality versus imagination in this delightfully quick read. As we see the real backyard antics of Molly and Laura, we also watch the parallel story of Masterpiece Robot and Sidekick battling the fierce robotic army of Valerie Knick-Knack. The color scheme is vivid, and the little metallic flourishes on heroes and robots alike add a nice touch of crispness and detail to the wild visuals. Although we’re given little background on the world behind Masterpiece Robot — all of the focus is on the kids’ alter egos, not the environment they inhabit — that ensures that we constantly keep our eyes on the faux-fight between siblings. It’s a fun way to transport young readers and parents alike back to the days of cardboard spaceships and blanket forts-turned-castles. " -- Glenn Dallas - The Manhattan Review

When the great cherry tree explains how much it would love to dance with them, Sylvia Rose unearths a plan to uproot the tree in order for it to dance with her to faraway lands. Branch in hand, Sylvia Rose and the cherry tree visit many wonderful sights of the world—but back in the forest, the animals miss the tree which was their home. Though the text is lengthy, the story is charming and it is matched with visual intrigue that eventually guides the cherry tree back to bloom where it was once deeply rooted. From his father''s shoulder, a sleepless baby watches the snow drift down from the sky onto the busy street below. What are all those noises? What are all those lights? His tired but patient father explains everything, from the bustle of taxis swishing through the slush to the grinding and slamming of the early-morning garbage trucks.Teddy Jam's lyrical prose and Eric Beddows's detailed illustrations cast Night Cars in that magical light between sleep and waking. This classic baby book, now available in a board book format, is a perennial favorite.Trade ReviewNight Cars goes right to the heart of little children…Bliss, but not treacle. * Globe and Mail *The Canadian Goodnight Moon. * CBC Radio Children's Panel *This one has classic written all over it. * Canadian Press *Wonderful double page spread illustrations showing the baby in the foreground and the street in the background have a definite vintage feel. A minimal text with simple rhymes sweeps the reader from page to page with a soft rhythm which is soothing and which would be perfect for bedtime reading. * Through the Looking Glass Children's Book Review *
