teNeues Publishing UK Ltd Paris
Book SynopsisPost-war Paris brought a blossoming of culture and thought. The Nouvelle Vague transformed French cinema, young couturiers reinvigorated French fashion, existentialism flourished in literature and philosophy, and the city swung and swayed to a vibrant jazz and rock 'n' roll scene. In the middle of it all, was Paul Almasy. The well-travelled photojournalist, born in Hungary, had made Paris his hometown and spent his days and nights wandering its alleys, avenues, and after-hours bars. Through his photographs, we visit the old markets and artist's studios, its music joints and glamorous cafes, but also the burgeoning banlieues, where immigrant workers were housed in high-rise apartment blocks in peripheral and isolated locations. This book, which is devoid of the usual tourist spots, shines a light on places and people that are not often seen: the campy drycleaner (“Go Gay”); a double decker bus appearing to manoeuvre a miniature golf course; an abandoned tank in south London. Book Synopsis"It's likely that a book like this is the only way you might see many of these creatures for yourself." — Amateur Photographer This book of photographs puts the spotlight on a group of animals that is little-noticed, and undeservedly so: endemic species that exist only on their respective islands. Isolated from continents by the ocean, certain species have been able to evolve further and differently than their counterparts on the mainland, where they are subjected to far more threats such as predators and diseases. Over time, giants like the Indonesian Komodo dragon have evolved, which grows up to three metres long and weighs 70 kilos. The comet moth lives on Madagascar, and the odd King of Saxony bird-of-paradise flies around on New Guinea. The flightless cormorant on Galapagos, on the other hand, retracted its flight instruments over time because it had no need for them. Readers can expect a variety of animal beauty and extravagance. The following locations are included in the book: Island of Sainte Marie (Madagascar) Madagascar Philippines Lesser Sunda Islands (Indonesia) Aru Islands Regency (Indonesia) New Guinea Australia Tasmania (Australia) New Zealand Santa Catalina Island, Channel Islands (California, US) Cozumel (Mexico) Cuba Isla Escudo de Veraguas (Panama) Galapagos Islands (Ecuador) Falkland Islands Svalbard Archipelago Text in English and German.Trade Review"It's likely that a book like this is the only way you might see many of these creatures for yourself." - Amateur PhotographerTable of ContentsLiving Fossils Giants Miniatures No Need to Fly Diversity Biography Picture Credits Imprint

Book Synopsis"A book of photographs taken before February 2022 reveals formerly breathtaking landscapes that may never be the same." — The New York Times "An illustrated ode to their home, it showcases the beauty and vulnerability of Ukraine beyond the daily horrors and photographs of war." — Image (Ireland) "The book is an illustrated love letter to their homeland, created in the darkest of times…" — Amateur Photography "Facing the most adverse circumstances, they [photographer Yevhen Samuchenko and writer Lucia Bondar] unite to reveal a vision of Ukraine few people know..." — Food & Travel On 24 February 2022, the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops began. Since then, Russia's war of aggression has continued with increasing ferocity and destruction. Millions of Ukrainians have fled to neighbouring European countries. Ukraine is now a country caught between two stools: on the one hand, it is striving for rapprochement with NATO and the EU; on the other hand, good relations with Russia have also always been of fundamental importance to the country. This is a picture book about a landscape and its country, which is going through dark times and is currently moving the whole world. Here we take a look at the beauty and the integrity of Ukraine. The Ukrainian landscape is characterised by steppes, plateaus, lowlands and mountains. The Lemurian Lake in the south of Ukraine impresses with its pink colour, as it has a higher salt content than the Dead Sea. The mountain ranges of the Carpathians in the west of Ukraine captivate with their wonderful wild beauty. The Ukrainian steppe is part of the great Eurasian steppe, which runs through several countries of Eastern Europe and used to be the home of the Cossacks. The country is also criss-crossed by numerous river courses, with the Dnieper, Donets and Dniester rivers, which flow into the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, being among the most significant. Unparalleled scale, out-of-this-world colours and unique landscape shots from above make this book a tribute to the beauty of the Ukrainian landscape. Text in English, German and Ukrainian.Trade Review"An illustrated ode to their home, it showcases the beauty and vulnerability of Ukraine beyond the daily horrors and photographs of war." - Image (Ireland)"You might not realise just how beautiful Ukraine is. Book Synopsis"In the book… we get a fantastic look at those alternative viewpoints that you're unlikely to find in your Lonely Planet or Rough guide. They've called the books 'Unseen' for a reason, because you're far less likely to have already viewed the kinds of pictures taken within it." — Amateur Photographer Berlin Unseen is, like the first two parts of the Unseen series (London Unseen and New York Unseen), an authentic approach to the character of the German capital. At the same time, the images by Martin U. Waltz breathe the atmosphere of the metropolis on the Spree as authentically as few others. The star photographer of the German street photography scene has always been close to the pulse of the city; knows where Berlin life meets; in which places and squares the soul of the city is best reflected. Yet it is not the city's tourist highlights that interest Martin U. Waltz. It is the streets and the faces of the "real" Berlin, the hidden architecture, the backyards, party basements and subcultures of the city. His images smell and taste of Berlin, and not (only) of the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag and TV Tower. Berlin Unseen thus becomes a photographic smorgasbord of glances, gestures, situations that capture the soul of Berlin. The city is seen from its edges, and at the same time from its innermost - an unprecedented view of probably the most moving metropolis in the world. Text in English and German.Trade Review"In the book… we get a fantastic look at those alternative viewpoints that you're unlikely to find in your Lonely Planet or Rough guide. Book SynopsisIn wise words, Christian Dior once proclaimed: "Flowers are, apart from women, the most beautiful gift God has given the world." The new teNeues series, Floramour, which henceforth honourably celebrates the most exquisite natural beauties that adorn our gardens, proves just how right he was. Each series title is dedicated to a genus of flowers, viewed from an aesthetic perspective. In a noble presentation with impressive pictures and interesting texts, an exciting portrait of our favourite flowers is created. It begins with the rose. teNeues Publishing UK Ltd La lunga strada di sabbia: Paolo Di Paolo - Pier
Book SynopsisThe extraordinary picture story by Paolo Di Paolo, which documents and narrates Italians on vacation during Summer 1959, from the Tyrrhenian to the Adriatic Sea; from Ventimiglia to Trieste (from the western to the eastern border). In 1959 Paolo Di Paolo is a 34-year-old photographer collaborating with the cultural weekly magazine Il Mondo directed by Mario Pannunzio, and the widely distributed magazine Tempo. Pier Paolo Pasolini is a promising 37-year-old writer who had published The Best of Youth, The Street Kids and A Violent Life. He is not yet a film director. In Italy, the “economic miracle” has just begun. The newspapers tend to offer to Italian families a microcosm of mythical characters as a diversion to the dullness and fear of war, emigration, and poverty. Arturo Tofanelli, editor in chief of the monthly Successo and the weekly Tempo, entrusts the two young men, Di Paolo and Pasolini, who did not know each other, to do a report on the Italian Summer Holidays that will be published by Successo magazine in three issues (July, August and September 1959). The writer and the photographer set off from Ventimiglia together, with the plan of travelling through the coasts of Italy to the south and climbing up to Trieste. But they have different visions. “Pasolini was looking for a lost world of literary ghosts, an Italy that no longer existed,” recalls Di Paolo. “I was looking for an Italy that was looking to the future. I conceived the title The Long Road of Sand meaning the strenuous road traveled by Italians to reach well-being and holidays after the War.” A complex, delicate partnership is born between Pasolini and Di Paolo, they will travel together only the first stage of this journey, but this experience would later be consolidated in mutual respect and trust. Text in English, German and Italian.
