Readworthy Publications Pvt Ltd Amartya Sen's Hindu Bash
Book SynopsisThe volume is an erudite work on Nobel Laureate Prof. Amartya Sen''s perception of Hinduism and the Hindus as evident in his books The Argumentative Indian and Identity and Violence. It examines Sen''s stinging views on Hindutva and Hindu culture. The author argues that the work engages in Hindu-baiting and scrutinizes certain discrepancies that have crept in as a result of accepting theories, such as Sri Rama was a myth and Ramayana is a parable, uncritically. The book also comments on Prof. Sen''s allegations that Hindu political activists nowadays pay little heed to the ''tolerant'' Hindu tradition and are bent upon rewriting history to suit their own ideologies.

Navayana Publishing Pvt Ltd The Shudra:: A Philosophical Narrative of Indian
Book SynopsisVedic literature has the same word for both man and Godpurusha. The Vedic seers ritually sacrifice Purusha, the God, thereby also killing purusha, the spiritualcultural man. This births the caste-man', who is not man at all. The caste-man is either higher or lower. A handful are superhuman: gods, priests, Brahmans. And the masses are subhuman: the Shudra. In The Shudra, Jalalul Haq conducts a philosophical autopsy of ancient Indian texts, meticulously reading between the lines to uncover the early history of caste. He shows how inequality pervaded Buddhism, Jainism and other heterodox sects, even as they tried to counter the hegemony of Brahmanism. In this clash of gods and demons, Haq attempts to extract the human.

Museum Tusculanum Press Transcendental historie: Overvejelser angående
Book SynopsisTranscendental history denotes a possible philosophical discipline on a par with transcendental logic. Through two mutually complementary endeavours, namely the working out of a notion and the defending of a thesis, Gosvig Olesen examines the history of philosophy in areas where the possibility of the transcendental history will emerge. The notion that is worked out is the notion of historical time. The thesis that is being defended is that the human cognition's transcendental condition is history. Notion as well as thesis place the dissertation in the philosophical genre traditionally known as transcendental philosophy.

Aarhus University Press Intelligent Design: An Intellectual Challenge?
Book SynopsisThe basic claim of intelligent design is that some significant problems inherent in the core of the scientific theories about the origin of life are being neglected in the mainstream of modern epistemology, scientific thinking, and philosophy of science. The advocates of the intelligent design hold that certain features of the universe and of living things can only be explained by an intelligent cause, not just be reference to an undirected process such as natural selection. They also hold that a proper description of nature should include the notion of ''purpose'' i.e. that teleological descriptions should not in principle be excluded from the scientific literature. A great majority of the scientific community rejects the scientific validity and relevance of these claims. On the other hand, the idea of intelligent design has given rise to some interesting epistemological, methodological, and ontological questions, which are relevant for the formulation and understanding of science. In this book a group of scientists and philosophers discuss these questions. Some of the authors defend the basic ideas of intelligent design while others oppose these ideas.
