Book SynopsisThe Italian Study Group on Cardiomyopathies organized in Florence in April 1997, eight years after the first successful meeting, the second international symposium devoted to "Advances in Cardiomyopathies". In these years exceptional progress has been made in the field of heart muscle diseases, in clinical research as well as in molecular biology, molec- ular genetics., pathophysiology and treatment. Many of these advances were presented and discussed in Florence by a distinguished team of international experts. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy was addressed in ten papers; in the first one Seidman reported the results obtained by the use of molecular genetic tech- niques which showed that hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a heterogeneous disorder caused by different mutations of different genes and discussed the clinical role and significance of genetic testing. Original data regarding the natural history and prognosis of symptomatic patients were obtained in the Italian multicentric study (Cecchi, Lazzeroni), while Baroldi discussed the clinico-pathologic spectrum of the disease in severely symptomatic patients treated with heart transplantation. Sudden death in the young (Basso), the identification and management of high risk patients (Elliott), the clinical importance and the problems of detec- tion of ischemia (Camici) were deeply discussed as well as the indications and results of different types of treatment: medical, surgical, DDD pacing (Spirito, Betocchi, Schoendube).Table of ContentsIntroduction: II Florence Meeting on Advances in Cardiomyopathies The Clinical Significance of Genetic Testing in Familial Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy The Italian Multicentric Study on Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy: I.Natural History and Clinical Course of Unselected Patients Detection and Clinical Consequences of Myocardial Ischemia and, Reduced Coronary Reserve The Coronary Circulation is Dysfunctional in both Hypertrophied and Non-Hypertrophied Myocardium Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and Sudden Death in the Young: a Pathologist's View Identification and Management of High Risk Patients with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy The Italian Multicentric Study on Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy: II. Book SynopsisCrop diseases are known to be caused by various abiotic and biotic agents. Among the biotic agents, microbial plant pathogens u fungi, bacteria, phytoplasmas, viruses and viroids u accounts for significant quantitative and qualitative losses in agricultural and horticultural crops. It is essential to have adequate knowledge of various aspects of these plant pathogens. Information on precise identification of microbial plant pathogens, process of disease development, epidemiology, assessment of losses due to diseases, principles of disease management, their applications for containing the diseases and the possible ways of integrating the practices is required to develop and enhance the effectiveness of disease management systems suitable for different ecosystems. Basic plant pathological methods provided in the appendix and glossary of plant pathological terms presented in this book will help the students to have a clear understanding of the subject. Graduating students, researchers and teachers desirous of updating the information on different aspects of microbial plant pathogens and the diseases caused by them, will find this book to be useful.Table of ContentsPart I: Causes and Development of Crop Diseases: 1: Introduction 2: Types of Crop Diseases 3: Methods of Establishing the Causes and Diagnosis of Crop Diseases 4: Development of Plant Diseases Caused by Microbial Pathogens 5: Molecular Basis of Microbial Pathogenicity and Host Plant Defense 6: Assessment of Losses Caused by Crop Pathogens Part II: Principles of Crop Disease Management: 7: Principles and Practices of Crop Disease Management 8: Exclusion of Diseases Caused by Microbial Plant Pathogens 9: Reduction of Pathogen Inoculum Using Physical and Chemical Techniques 10: Reduction of Pathogen Inoculum Using Cultural Practices 11: Reduction of Pathogen Inoculum Using Antimicrobial Chemicals 12: Reduction of Pathogen Inoculum Using Biological Agents 13: Host Plant Resistance to Microbial Pathogens 14: Induction of Resistance to Crop Diseases Part III: Practices Adopted for Crop Disease Management: 15: Integrated Management of Diseases Affecting Roots of Plants 16: Integrated Management of Diseases Affecting Stems of Plants 17: Integrated Management of Diseases Affecting Foliage of Plants 18: Integrated Management of Diseases Affecting Inflorescence of Plants 19: Integrated Management of Viral and Phytoplasma Diseases of Crops 20: Integrated Management of Postharvest Diseases

Book SynopsisKeeping abreast of the major strides made in the field of neuropathology, Essentials of Diagnostic Surgical Neuropathology brings out its second edition with the aim of keeping the neuroscience community updated with the new developments in neuropathology. This second edition comes close on the heels of the fifth edition of the WHO Classification of Central Nervous System Tumours (WHO CNS5) which was published in 2021. This new edition has retained the concise, point wise format of the earlier edition, making it a handy reference book. While the major changes in this edition are in neoplastic pathology, this book also provides updates in the pathology of non-neoplastic lesions that need surgical intervention. The highlights of the neoplastic section are: Description of new tumour types and subtypes included in the WHO CNS5 Grading of tumours as per WHO CNS5 Relevant immune profile and diagnostic molecular pathology for each tumour according to WHO CNS5. Essential and desirable diagnostic criteria, as defined by WHO CNS5, in a tabular form at the end The salient features of the non-neoplastic section include: New section on Therapy-related Neuropathology Recent classifications of vascular malformations and epilepsy related lesions New section on Infectious and Inflammatory Lesions Mimicking Neoplasms New chapter on Surgical Pathology of Spinal Dysraphism and Other Neural Tube Defects Another important feature includes the addition of a new chapter on techniques viz. • Atlas of Parasitic Pathology

    Springer Atlas of Parasitic Pathology

    15 in stock

Book SynopsisEarly diagnosis of parasitic diseases, especially of the opportunistic infections, is gaining importance daily and pathologists now have the chance to make rapid diagnoses of these disorders by examining tissues and body fluids. Though parasitic infections and infestations occur mainly in subtropical and tropical areas, they are increasingly imported into other areas, where the pathologist must be able to recognize them. This new full-colour atlas, containing over 500 photographs, many diagrams and tables, with extensive references and index, concentrates on histology, differential diagnosis and on the structure of parasitic elements such as eggs, larvae and adult worms, in and outside tissues. The atlas will be invaluable as a bench manual for the practising pathologists to keep by the microscope, as well as for physicians, surgeons, dermatologists and pathologists in training, and all those who are concerned with parasitic infections.
