The stitched motifs and finished projects are shown at the front of the book in full colour, with the instructions, stitch guides, and templates at the back. This book would be an amazing present, but each of the projects would make a beautiful gift. Suitable for all levels of embroiderer. * Love to Make *Beautiful, amazing, gorgeous! There are so many words that I could use to describe this book. I love the fact that it has gone back to designs from the past and brought them back in a way that makes it up to date. The book starts with the most amazing pictures of each of the motifs and how they can be used. Once you have ooed and awed at the pictures you are taken through the steps of making the beautiful items. First it talks you through materials and tools, then moving onto techniques and how to start and finish stitches. Then you move onto the instructions. The instructions take you through everything you will need to know to make each of the projects. These include diagrams and pictures. The also include the motifs and what stitches you will need to use. I think the pictures and designs speak for themselves. They are exquisite! This book would be amazing as a present but each of the projects would make something special for someone. * Crochet Addict UK *Yumiko was inspired to try combining wool thread with the more usual cotton embroidery floss and, delighted with the results, now presents this beautiful book. A generous selection of motifs together with suggested projects are gloriously illustrated in colour. Comprehensive instructions, including lists of all materials required to replicate the projects, are given together with full-size trace-off designs. An inspiring book for both the new embroiderer and for those with some experience. * East Kent Embroiderers Guild *Traditional embroidery is reinvented for modern makers. Combine cotton and wool thread to create embroidery for beginners. The book inclujdes 20 motifs and instructions for accessories, home decore and clothing for all skill levels. * Machine Knitting Monthly *This book has embroidery motifs and projects with wool and cotton thread and is stitched on linen. It will be enjoyed by a complete beginner or experienced stitcher that likes a modern contemporary twist. Yumiko only uses 6 embroidery stitches: satin stitch, chain stitch, straight stitch, outline stitch, lazy daisy stitch and French knots. Yumiko uses DMC cotton embroidery floss and stitches on linen fabric. She was inspired when working on large scale and found that wool thread needed fewer stitches but gave great volume to her work. She then introduced the cotton floss and now combines the two in her work. She gives full details on how to make and embroider a belt, clutch bag, needle case, pouches and much more. Her motifs can be added to existing items for example hats, sweaters, and tote bags. -- Sally Wilkinson * The SEW Region Magazine - Book Threads *

Stackpole Books Easy Lace Knits
Book SynopsisLove the look of lace but think it’s too complicated for the average knitter? Think again! With this book, Anniken Allis throws wide the door to lace for all knitters. Easy-to-learn lace patterns fool the eye into thinking they are far more complex than they actually are.Trade ReviewLove the look of lace but fear casting it on? Allis's 20 designs for shawls, tops, mitts and scarves may be just the antidote, as she starts at the very beginning--by defining lace as a simple series of increases and corresponding decreases. A stitch glossary of the various increase and decrease techniques is illustrated with photos so knitters can clearly see how each type contributes to the look of finished lace. Another novice-friendly feature of this book recognizes that knitters have different ways of understanding stitch patterns, and so Allis provides both written and charted versions for the lace stitches used. And because even experienced lace knitters can find it challenging to detect where their stitch count has gone awry, you'll find tips for ways to read your knitting and get your stitches back on track.

All pieces are knit in bulky yarns and easy-to-learn stitch patterns, so you can be enjoying your knits in no time.Trade ReviewKnitting with giant yarn and fiber has been popular for years, but fat fibers can be quite expensive and difficult to care for. Knit and crochet designer Erin Black wants to make big projects more accessible and usable in the home, so her fun, done-in-a-flash, large-needle patterns use several strands of less expensive acrylic or cotton yarn held together to make huge stitches without a huge budget. Designer Knit Home features twenty-four delightful, whimsical patterns in coordinated collections for different rooms of the home. The charming projects cover a variety of knitting techniques, including cables, lace, and color work. Stackpole Books Big Yarn Beautiful Lace Knits
Book SynopsisLace gets a whole new look! Lace has traditionally been knit in finer weight yarns to create airy, delicate designs. But when knit in bulky yarns, lace becomes bold, graphic, and dramatic. Get those big needles and chunky yarn ready to roll!Trade ReviewWith big colourful pictures, and simple useful ‘how to' sections explaining what lace is, how to read a chart and some basic lace techniques, this book sets the scene beautifully. There are 20 patterns, all of them beautifully photographed. Unusually there are patterns for men and women in the same book. There are lots of different projects from hats, mitts and scarves through to shawls and a poncho. Lace knitting is usually linked to fine-weight yarns, but applying this technique to bulky yarns makes this a great way to try lace knitting. Often in a book like this I will find one or maybe two patterns that I’d like to try, but in this publication, there are lots I’d like to make. Surprisingly, the larger garments are the ones I’m drawn to, including a poncho and an open front vest The photography is well done, with multiple pictures of the same item from different angles, making it easier to choose which items you really want to make. Overall, this is a book I’d buy for myself. My only negative comment is the colour used on the abbreviations page makes it harder to read, when the idea was probably to make it easier. -- Natalie Tidy * Knitting & Crochet Guild - SlipKnot June 2020 *

Stackpole Books The Punch Needle Handbook Easy guide to punching
Book SynopsisYou can pick up a punch needle and complete a project in less than an hour, with no prior skill needed. It requires just one easy-to-use tool, a background fabric, an embroidery hoop or frame, and yarn. Punched pieces make excellent wall hangings, pillows, ornaments, stool covers, chair cushions, purses/pouches, baby play mats, and much more!Trade ReviewPunch needle meets rug making in this inspiring book, showing you, from scratch how to master this versatile craft and produce a houseful of not only rugs but mats, wall hangings, coasters, bags and even jewellery. I was introduced to this absorbing and under valued craft at a show and have only used it with ordinary sewing thread to create details for garments so I was intrigued. Making rugs for me means hooking, but once you are familiar with the tools it is easy to see how the punching into a canvas type base is perfect for making rugs. This book takes you from total beginner to proficient and confident crafter a step at a time, informing you what you need to buy and how to use it. There are many different types of punch needle on the market (mine are a different type, used for fine embroidery) and a world of different yarns and threads to navigate. I like the way the author explains why you need an item, or what effect you will get if you use a certain yarn so you know what to buy to get the right results. The beginner section goes on to describe with the aid of photographic steps how to thread and use the needle, troubleshooting tips and rug finishing techniques. The projects are grouped into three sections for beginner, easy and intermediate. They all have a list of tools and materials, finished size in imperial and metric and text only instructions. There are large photographs of the items usually in situ, but if you want staged photographs you need to look back at the relevant section. At the back, all the patterns are provided, although some need to be enlarged. A few contact details are given for suppliers, but all these are in the US. This is a very user friendly book recommended for anybody who wants to learn the chunkier side of punch needle craft. -- Rachel A Hyde * myshelf.com *Yarn crafts, for me, are always fun. So when I discovered punch peedle I just had to have a go. This book is all about punch needle rug hooking. The projects are amazing and once you start you will soon get the Punch needle bug I promise you! This book is for beginners and advanced punch needlers alike. Set into sections for Beginners, Easy projects and Intermediate projects, there is something for everyone and is designed in a way that a beginner can advance their skills just by completing each project throughout the book. The Punch Needle Handbook tells you everything you need to know, so it really is like a tuition course. There are hints and tips on using your punch needle and how to create and achieve a fabulous piece of art using your yarn. It is also perfect for using up your yarn scraps to add interest to your project. From coasters to wall art, the projects are beautifully demonstrated and simple to do once you get going. Stackpole Books Playtime Rompers to Knit
Book SynopsisTrade ReviewDoting grannies, friends or parents love to knit something for a newborn. I opened this book and had to smile at all the expressions of the babies and toddlers and then looked to see which pattern caught my eye. For me it has to be “pig”, a simple quick knit project in a DK yarn and there is also a hat to go with the romper which would make it a perfect outfit. Being quite a traditionalist I found some of the patterns a bit fussy and would have liked to see more everyday rompers in brighter colours with a greater range of stitches. The patterns are easy to follow with well written instructions and would be suitable for a knitter who is confident in all the basics. -- Monica Russel * Author and Knitwear Designer *
