Alma Books Ltd Le nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro)

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisLe nozze di Figarois one of Mozart's best-loved and most enduring works. The first of the three operas he wrote with Lorenzo da Ponte and based on Beaumarchais's play, it established the thirty-year-old Mozart as an opera composer of the very first rank. Its combination of wit, acute psychological observation and sublime music has enthralled audiences ever since its premiere in Prague in 1786. This guide contains articles about the historical background to the opera, as well as musical and dramatic commentaries. Further articles deal with the changes in musical performance brought about in recent times by the period practice movement and with the particular uses Mozart makes of recitatives. There is also a survey of the opera's most important productions. Illustrations, a thematic guide, the full libretto with English translation and reference sections are also included.

    Out of stock

Book SynopsisThis five-volume graded anthology acts as an introduction to the flute music of the early- and mid-eighteenth century. All important composers of flute music of the period are represented, starting with the French pioneers La Barre and Hotteterre, and culminating in the great Germans Handel and Bach. Texts faithfully follow the original sources, any editorial additions being carefully differentiated as such. These marks, which include ornament realizations and breathing suggestions, together with the editorial notes that accompany each piece, are designed to help the progressing flautist to cultivate an authentic playing style. In addition, useful information is given about the composers represented and about the pieces selected and the sources from which they are drawn. A separate continuo part is provided, allowing the bass line to be doubled on cello or viola da gamba, in accordance with standard continuo practice. This part, in which the bass is figured, may also be used by keyboard players who wish to improvise their own accompaniment.Trade ReviewThey are attractively produced and designed ... the music is clearly printed and the excellent textual notes ... are in a typeface large enough to read but neat enough not to clutter or confuse the page. * Early Music Today *Congratulations are due to ABRSM Publishing for its choice of editor and to Richard Jones for his skill in making these very practical anthologies. * Early Music Today *... excellent value for money and highly recommended. * Music Teacher *This is a marvellous introduction to the music of the early and mid 18th century. * Music Teacher *Table of ContentsMenuet en Musette from Suite No.1 in D [d'Hervelois] ; Menuet Rondeau, Gavotte from 'La Therese' and Le Polichinel Rondeau from Suite No.1 in G [Philidor] ; Gigue La Cadette from Suite in G, Op. 4 No. 2 [La Barre] ; Menuet Le Mignon from Suite in G, Op. 2 No. 2 [Hotteterre] ; Gavotte from Suite in G minor, Op. 5 No. 1 [Hotteterre] ; Sarabanda and Gavotta from Sonata in E minor, Op. 5 No. 1 [Jean Baptiste Loeillet] ; Gavotte La Therese from Suite No. 1 in G [Philidor] ; Siciliana from Partia No. 2 in G, TWV 41:G2 [Georg Philipp Telemann] ; Siciliana from Partia No. 5 in E minor, TWV 41:el [Georg Philipp Telemann] ; Grave from Sonata No. 6 in B minor [Roman] ; Minuetto from Sonata No. 9 in C [Roman] ; Minuetto from Sonata in G, Op. 2 No. 10 [Locatelli] ; Vivace from Sonata in D, Op. 30 No. 11 [Schickhardt] ; Sarabanda from Sonata in E minor, Op. 8 No. 3 [William De Fesch] ; Aria and Gavotta from Sonata in G, Op. 8 No. 4 [William De Fesch] ; Gavotte I & II from Sonata in D, Op. 1 No. 3 [Naudot] ; Sarabanda from Sonatille in E minor,
