Oxford University Press Infectious Disease Ecology and Conservation
Book SynopsisIntegrates the theoretical principles underlying disease transmission with the practical health considerations involved in helping wildlife professionals and conservation biologists to manage disease outbreaks and conserve biodiversity.Trade ReviewRecent events surrounding the SARS-CoV-2-caused COVID-19 pandemic show the need for a comprehensive approach to research on and management of emerging infectious diseases affecting humans and other living populations. [This book] provides a comprehensive overview of the convergence of conservation biology, theoretical ecology, and veterinary science in the study of emerging infectious diseases and their respective impacts on natural populations. Of particular interest are discussions on modeling, data analysis, and epidemiological concepts associated with population-level impacts and outcomes from emerging infectious diseases and parasites in animals and other natural populations. * Dr. Kip R. Watkins Media Limited The Hidden Beauty of the Microscopic World: What
Book SynopsisA strange and beautiful world surrounds us, hidden from sight ... An unbelievable abundance of life flourishes on every surface of our planet. In every drop of dew, on every leaf, and even inside each one of us, invisible yet ingenious life thrives. James Weiss, microbe enthusiast and videographer, has spent thousands of hours peeking into this world, and has been astounded by the beauty he finds there. With his captivating photographs and illustrations, James presents this beginner's guide to microscopic life, from the most simple, single-celled organisms to complex micro-animals. Navigate the births, feasts, triumphs, tragedies and deaths of a cast of tiny characters, including the adorable water bear, the immortal Hydra and the dancing Desmid. Learn how these lifeforms work and what lessons they can teach us about our own existence, and discover how seeing the wonder of nature from a new perspective can change your life.Trade Review“ The copious images in this companion guide are no less enchanting, and Weiss’ text fills in the background that the author can’t always cover in his 10-minute YouTube episodes. . . . This approachable guide to another universe, as close as the nearest microscope, should appeal to general readers."— Alan Moores, Booklist

Springer Pseudomonas syringae Pathovars and Related Pathogens - Identification, Epidemiology and Genomics
Book SynopsisThe Conference on Pseudomonas syringae which started in 1973 as an informal meeting of a group of scientists working on these bacteria in Angers, France, has become more and more important with time. Many meetings have been held since then: 1984, 1987, 1991, 1995, and 2002 in Cape Sounion, Greece; Lisbon, Portugal; Florence, Italy; Berlin, Germany; and Maratea, Italy; respectively. This Conference is considered as the most important scientific forum in which recent advances in different research aspects on Pseudomonas syringae, a plant pathogenic bacterial species that includes a high number of pathogens (referred as pathovars) and Related Pathogens such as Acidovorax, Burkholderia, Ralstonia, affecting several economically important crops. The proceedings resulting from these meetings are considered as valuable sources of information related to this group of pathogens. The interest in organising this conference regularly is reflected by the attendance of more than 80 scientists from 20 countries worldwide, who participated at the 7th International Conference on Pseudomonas syringae pathovars and related pat- gens organized by the Institut Agronomique et Veterinaire Hassan II in Agadir, Morocco, from 13th to 16th November 2006.Table of ContentsPreface.
