Taylor & Francis Ltd Cybersecurity for Coaches and Therapists
Book SynopsisThis groundbreaking book filters down the wealth of information on cybersecurity to the most relevant and highly applicable aspects for coaches, therapists, researchers and all other practitioners handling confidential client conversations and data. Whether working with clients online or face to face, practitioners today increasingly rely on the cyberspace as part of their practice. Through a solutions-focused lens, the book provides easy-to-apply practical advice and guidelines using non-technical language, enabling practitioners to mitigate the rising threat of cybercrime, which can no longer be ignored. By the last page the reader will have knowledge and awareness towards: securing devices, spotting financial fraud, mitigating the risks of online communications, operating more securely from a home office and handling a cyber event if one occurs.Clear, concise, and easy to follow, this guide is a pivotal resource for coaches, therapists, researcheTrade Review"Rapid technological change is fast-tracking the development and utilisation of digital innovations in applied psychological practice. The past five years have dramatically increased the digitisation of traditional psychological acts and services ranging from psychodiagnostics to e-Therapy/Coaching. These innovations aim to scale the availability of psychological services and increase accessibility for traditionally marginalised communities. COVID-19 has made these digital psychological services more than a novelty but established such as the norm. Psychological practitioners have adopted new technological approaches to their assessment and development practices to compensate for the barriers COVID-19 restrictions have placed on their traditional approaches to practice. However, are we aware of the challenges this new way of work poses to our practices and our clients? Do we know the risks that this new way of work poses for our clients' safety, security, and psychological well-being? And are our practices prepared for managing the risks associated with digital mental health services? In her new book, Alexandra explores the contemporary challenges, risks, and ethical dilemmas that digital mental health services pose to data security and client welfare. Specifically, she provides a practitioner friendly guide for managing digital client data, mitigating risks and securing your practice against cybercrime. Her book further attempts to enhance practitioners’ digital competence to ensure that you have a future-fit, resilient and digitally secured practice. This book is a ‘must’ for any therapist, psychologist, or coach venturing into the world of digital mental health."Prof Dr Llewellyn van Zyl, Extraordinary Professor in Positive Psychology, NWU"Nobody expects to be the victim of cybercrime or defrauded. Yet thousands become victims of cybercriminals each day. Imagine the feeling if criminals steal and leak your clients’ biggest secrets? The good news is that you can help prevent it from happening by reading this book. Alexandra, both a coach and cyberfraud expert herself, provides actionable and proven tips on how to ensure that you will not become the next victim of the criminals. Read this book - and learn from one of the best!"Mindaugas Kutkaitis, Fraud Prevention Expert, Financial Services"This book is a must-have for any coach, therapist or organizations handling sensitive data whose eyes glaze over when the word "cybersecurity" is mentioned! It’s jam packed with information and tips to ensure you’re safely and securely protecting your business and your clients’ confidentiality and information more broadly. It also helps you create a trusted and safe environment which is the foundation of a strong client relationship."Dr Suzy Green, D Psych (Clin) MAPS, The Positivity Institute - Founder & CEO "Whether we like it or not, cybersecurity should be part of our lives in this time and age in which cybercrime is proliferating. In a solution-focused approach, Alexandra Fouracres describes how to navigate this new challenge in an effective and inspiring manner. This book should be read by all practitioners."Dr Itai Ivtzan, School Director, School of Positive Transformation"A fascinating book which is an essential read for those of us who work in digital environments as coaches, mentors and consultants. Alexandra helps identify the current risks and what individuals and coaching businesses can do to protect themselves, their clients and their business from viruses, scams, data theft and other online risks."Prof Jonathan Passmore, Professor of Coaching & Behavioural Change & Director, Henley Centre for Coaching & Behavioural Change "As psychologists bound by a code of ethics, we are all aware of the need to ensure the confidentiality of our clients and data security relating to our practice. However, few of us are experts in this area. In this book, Alexandra brings together her experience as a fraud intelligence and prevention manager and a coaching psychologist to inform and support practitioners' awareness of risks, prevention and compliance strategies and the ability to detect and react to potential breaches. Having recently worked with the British Psychological Society to establish standards for Chartership in Coaching Psychology, I'm confident that this book will help those within our particular domain of practice to understand and meet standards relating to client confidentiality and compliance with data privacy legislation." Dr Marie Stopforth CPsychol. AFBPsS"We all need to realize, that the cyber security challenge will not be solved by any single actor, service provider or authority. Everybody needs to take actions and show responsibility and contribute to a joint defence against the dark. We need to consider, how it would feel if our lack of security, led to a client falling victim to a cyber crime. I have experienced, myself, how a therapist got his computer infected with malware and in the beginning unknowingly leaked customers sensitive information, and after I informed him, kept leaking data, simply caused by a lack of understanding and knowledge of how to handle the situation. Therefore, this book is like rain in a desert."Sune Gabelgård, Head of Financial Crime Prevention, MobilePay"This book gives the reader a non-nonsense, digestible way for therapists and coaches to approach IT security. It shows the reader that with sensible, attainable behaviours it is possible to minimise risks for both themselves their valued clients, as well as practical examples to learn from. It reinforces an important message, that good digital hygiene is becoming less about raw technology and more about a holistic, defensive mindset."Sean Henley, Technology Strategy & Resilience Manager, Financial Services "Cybersecurity... Oftentimes people will get intimidated by this term. That is something for the 'IT Expert' to sort out, not me. No one will actually try to attack my information or account. That is for the 'big companies'. That is a misconception this book will help clear up. It really can happen to us all. With the tools and information given to you in this book, you will realize there is in fact a lot you can do yourself. The book will also show, you do not need to be an 'IT Expert' to secure yourself and your business. Take the opportunity to read this book. It will be an eye opener."H. Erik Inberg, Senior Technical Manager, Support & Projects"This reassuring, practical and informative guide to coach and therapist cyber-security, focused on how to protect client data, is long overdue. Alexandra has a knack of presenting what could otherwise be a complicated diet of ideas in a wholly digestible format. In straightforward, encouraging language, she raises practitioner awareness of potential issues, improving competence and confidence in preventing fraud, promoting security online, carefully considering ethical practice and always looking for the best outcomes for both practitioner and client. Every coach and therapist needs to read this book."Ruth Hughes, Course Director, Cambridge Coaching Certificate Programme "Understanding the psychology behind cybersecurity, is to understand one of the biggest threats to the economical world as we know it today. As a cyber security professional, I have at first hand seen not only how well organised and imposing cyberattacks can be on enterprises and also how intimidating and debilitating it can be for people. One thing is the loss of money, the other and most important thing, is the impact it has on a human psyche, and how it can ruin lives, relationships and trust in the human race. Putting in place good cybersecurity is then the stepping stone for securing your practices and keeping clients safe."Kim Ottobrøker, Compliance specialist, Danish utility sector"Fraud and cybercrime are increasing problems, impacting all areas of society, and putting organizations as well as individuals at risk. Today, no one is safe, and anyone can become a target of criminals operating on a global scale. In this highly relevant book on Cybersecurity, Alexandra J.S Fouracres, shares her extensive knowledge about the subject with the reader and gives a thorough introduction to the concepts and how criminals operate. This book is highly recommended, as it provides the reader with the necessary tools and knowledge needed to avoid becoming a victim of fraud and cybercrime."Kristian E. Taylor & Francis Youth Policy in the 1990s
Book SynopsisDespite its importance, youth policy is an often-ignored area of Government planning and legislation, and policy initiatives seem to lack any guiding theme or relevance to the needs of young people. In Youth Policy in the 1990s originally published in 1992, the editors brought together prominent experts in the key areas of youth policy at the time. They provide a critical review of the major issues which implicitly or explicitly affect the world of adolescents and examine to what extent they paint a picture of existing youth policy. The aim was to provide a baseline for a policy on youth in the 1990s.The book recommends the introduction of a Minister for Young People and the use of youth impact statements at national and local level and seeks to provide information and argument for those seeking to plan policy for young people from a corporate or inter-agency perspective. The contributors are all recognized experts in their fields. They tackle their topic first by examining the historical perspective, with a special concentration on the previous decade. Each has paid regard to particular themes â ethnicity, class and gender, and where possible, has brought in material from other countries and cultures. They have then put forward suggestions for future policy.

Taylor & Francis Ltd Adolescent Mental Health
Book SynopsisAdolescence is a period characterized by both increased susceptibility to risks and new-found strength to withstand them. Whilst most young people are well equipped to manage the changes associated with growing up, other maladjusted and marginalized adolescents already have, or are at risk of developing, mental health problems. Adolescent Mental Health: Prevention and Intervention is a concise and accessible overview of our current knowledge on effective treatment and prevention programs for young people with mental health problems. Whilst addressing some of the most common mental health issues among young people, such as behavioral problems and drug-related difficulties, it also offers a fuller understanding of the evidence-based treatment and prevention programs that are built upon what we know about how these behavioral and emotional problems develop and are sustained. The volume illustrates contemporary and empirically supported interventions and pTrade ReviewThis up-to-date compendium is rich with information that clearly defines key principles and practices relevant to the theory and understanding of adolescent development in the 21st century. The authors present a balanced approach to alternative perspectives of theory and intervention, making Adolescent Mental Health: Prevention and Intervention a valuable resource for educators and practitioners. Case studies clarify concepts and illustrate procedures. Marion S. Forgatch, PhD, Senior Research Scientist Emerita, Oregon Social Learning Center, USAIt is rare to find a concise summary of the literature on adolescent mental health that also is complete and readable. Ogden and Hagen, well known for their cutting edge research, have produced a gem, with up to the minute research described in the context of key lessons from history and the latest NICE and DSM-V guidelines. This book is required reading for serious students of the field and will serve as the foundation for meaningful and impactful practice and research in the coming decades. Dean L. Taylor & Francis Ltd Mental Health and Offending
Book SynopsisThis book explores the controversial relationship between mental health and offending and looks at the ways in which offenders with mental health problems are cared for, coerced and controlled by the criminal justice and mental health systems. It provides a much-needed criminological approach to the field of forensic mental health.Beginning with an exploration into why the relationship between mental health and offending is so complex, readers will be introduced to a range of perspectives through which mental health and its relationship to offending behaviour can be understood. The book considers the politics surrounding mental health and offending, focusing particularly on the changing policy response to mentally disordered offenders since the mid-1990s. With dedicated chapters concerning the police, courts, secure services and the community, this book explores a range of issues including: The tensions between the care, coercion and control of mentally disordered offeTrade Review'The field of mental disorder and crime is so all-encompassing as to put off many authors, but not criminologists Trebilcock and Weston. Their Mental Health and Offending: Care, Coercion and Control makes accessible a wealth of material. The book deftly takes the reader through the complex intersection of socio-legal issues pertaining across the criminal justice process as they affect those with mental disorder. Their analysis alone of the recent political landscape makes the book an outstanding contribution'. Jill Peay, Professor of Law, The London School of Economics and Political Science, UK'This book provides an authoritative and accessible exploration of some of the key dilemmas in offender mental health care. Combining academic rigour and a clear understanding of the issues faced in everyday practice, the authors address the core theme of care vs. control in a wide range of criminal justice settings, from initial contact with police, through custody, to rehabilitation in the community. This book is essential reading for criminal justice students but is also an invaluable resource for mental health professionals who want to better understand some of the core dilemmas in this complex field'.Dr. Colin Campbell, Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, King’s College London and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, UK'The relationship between mental health and criminal justice has been the source of much contemporary penal policy debate. This clear and comprehensive book allows the reader to grapple with issues ranging from health ethics to the care of those with mental disorders in secure settings. It should be a must read for anyone wanting to understand the complex range of theories, issues and public policy responses to the challenges posed to the seemingly intractable dilemma of how to best serve the needs of those with mental health needs and to ensure that the needs of justice are met.'.Anita Dockley, Research Director,The Howard League for Penal Reform, UK Table of Contents1. Taylor & Francis Ltd Sex in Psychotherapy
Book SynopsisSex in Psychotherapy takes a psychodynamic approach to understanding recent technological and theoretical shifts in the field of psychotherapy. Lawrence Hedges provides an expert overview and analysis of a wide variety of new perspectives on sex, sexuality, gender, and identity; new theories about sex's role in therapy; and new discoveries about the human brain and how it works. Therapists will value Hedges's unique insights into the role of sexuality in therapy, which are grounded in the author's studies of neurology, the history of sexuality, transference, resistance, and countertransference. Clinicians will also appreciate his provocative analyses of influential perspectives on sex, gender, and identity, and his lucid, concrete advice on the practice of therapeutic listening. Trade Review"Overall, this is a volume that gives one much to consider, especially in examining one's own performance in interacting with clients. This is an important and useful book for those who practice or wish to learn intensive therapeutic techniques." - Charles Golden in PsycCRITIQUES, March 2011"This is a book of disarming honesty, courage and insight. It is clear, concise and direct in describing an aspect of the psychotherapeutic relationship that is often not addressed...What makes this book remarkable is that Hedges is not content to be theoretical...Rather he illustrates the evidence of each of these developmental perspectives in the therapeutic encounter with first-person stories which tell how the therapist recognized and addressed these interpersonal dynamics...illustrative and positive: it encourages one to realize that one can bring one's humanity to bear in a therapeutic way." - Brad DeFord, Ph.D., in Illness, Crisis & Loss "...quickly the work grabbed my attention. What is helpful and I appreciated, was the validation I felt when I read the authors' willingness to name and own his therapeutic errors. So often, this material is unavailable because a sense of shame stops us presenting and maximising the powerful learning that can be gained when it all goes wrong. At a time where there is a paucity of material available on this area of our work, this book will contribute to all therapists." - Sally Openshaw, COSRT Accredited Fellow, private practice, Bideford, Devon, UK, in Sexual and Relationship TherapyTable of ContentsIntroduction: “Boy Meets Girl”: A Just-so Story about Sexuality. Cambridge University Press Pathographies of Mental Illness
Book SynopsisThis Element is a survey of the field of pathographies of mental illness. It explores classic texts in the field as well as other selected contemporary memoirs. In doing so, the reader is introduced to psychiatric information about various mental illnesses through a narrative lens, emphasizing experience. Because clinical research is evidenced-based and aims to produce generalizable knowledge (i.e., trends), the reading of pathographies can complement these findings with practical experiential insights. By pairing psychiatric information with pathographies, certain personal themes become apparent that are different from the empirical trends identified by scientific and medical researchers. Based on the survey presented here, this Element identifies seven such themes, laying the foundation for future research, inquiry, practice, and policy.Table of Contents1. Introduction; 2.
