Book SynopsisThis new edition of a bestselling, evidence-based textbook provides a comprehensive overview of psychiatric and mental health nursing. Keeping service users and their recovery at the centre of care, the holistic approach will help nurses to gain the tools and understanding required to work in this complex area.Extensively updated for this new edition, the text looks at: Aspects of mental health nursing: covering topics such as ethics, developing therapeutic relationships and supervision. The foundations of mental health nursing: discussing diagnosis, assessment and risk. Caring for those experiencing mental health distress: looking at wide range of troubles including anxiety, bipolar disorder, eating disorders and issues around sexuality and gender. Care planning and approaches to therapeutic practice: exploring ideas, pathways and treatments such as recovery, CBT, psychodynamic therapies and psychophaTrade Review"This book is a fine description of the many issues which relate to the understanding and practice of nursing people who have mental health problems. Such problems distress a major proportion of the general population at some point in the course of their lives. Mental health difficulties also often impact on sufferers' families and their communities. Those difficulties are thus a substantial aspect of health care matters as a whole. The volume by Chambers is written in easy-to-grasp language. It has 73 chapters. Each chapter starts with a short summary of the main points it contains. The book is a valuable introduction to the area." – Isaac Marks, Emeritus Professor of Experimental Psychopathology, King's College London, UK "This book provides a rich evocation of the best of psychiatric and mental health nursing with the centrality of the therapeutic relationship and collaboration threaded throughout the many illuminating chapters. The voice and experience of the service user and recognition of the need for skilled partnership working with service users, families, carers and colleagues is central. Many of the tensions and challenges are also explored. I dipped into various chapters and found I just wanted to keep reading. Book SynopsisMultiple viruses can be detected concurrently using the Integrated Virus Detection System (IVDS). Integrated Virus Detection describes this technology and provides many examples of applications including a chapter on viruses found in honeybees with descriptions of seasonal and yearly variation. This straightforward technology can be used to detect known, unknown, and unsequenced viruses collected from environmental and other complex biological sources. This book summarizes more than ten US patents issued for the invention of the IVDS, which is the common name of the electrospraydifferential mobility analyzer method. The IVDS is powering mankind's ability to rapidly detect, measure, and monitor viruses as well as virus-like particles. Three facts make rapid detection possible: virus size, which ranges from 20 to 800 nm.; disparity in each virus species' particle size thus allowing size data to be used for detection and preliminary identification; and the fact that virus Trade Review"While this volume superficially resembles a textbook, it is a promotional tool and instructional handbook for the use of a privately-patented device, the integrated virus detection system, which promises to use centrifuging and electrospray-differential mobility analysis to quickly detect viruses and virus-like particles in laboratory settings. The author, whose connection to the patents is unclear, is a retired physical scientist who specialized in biological and chemical warfare for the U.S. Army and the Department of Defense. The vast majority of the text is highly technical. It documents various aspects of the device and the tests run on its ability to detect viruses of various types and other particles. Two final chapters look at experiments with viruses in honeybees, and pulsed-lamp decontamination as measured by the device. There are many black and white charts and tables throughout the book."—Ringgold, Inc. Book News, February 2015Table of ContentsDetection of Whole Viruses. Instrumentation. Proof Concept Using MS2. Many films approach the reality of disease quite closely, and as a result, are deeply moving and memorable. Equally important, these films say as much about consequences as they say about the disorder. Therefore, the main themes include sudden confrontation with a major neurologic illness, disability from chronic neurologic disease, and failure to lead a normal life.More than 100 fiction films and documentaries are discussed in this completely original and definitive work on how film meets neurology. Book SynopsisThis book is designed to help the busy practitioner develop a differential diagnosis for the otolaryngology problems they encounter in the outpatient, inpatient, or emergency setting. The authors discuss clinical presentations and treatments, complemented by photographs of examinations and procedures to help physicians with diagnosis. The book features concise descriptions and highlights key treatment plans for the most common conditions in otolaryngology. For ease of reference, chapters are organised into five major sections, reflecting the make-up of the specialty: Otology, Rhinology/Skull Base, Laryngology, Head & Neck, Facial Plastics, and Pediatrics.Easy to read and richly illustrated with relevant clinical photographs and diagrams, Otolaryngology: A Color Handbook will be an indispensable reference for otolaryngologists, primary care providers, physician assistants, nurses, and students. Trade Review“This is a superb book that commendably straddles the twin aims of being an atlas whilst at the same is also a standard textbook. Fusing these attributes together produces this excellent book which is a pleasure to read… It will make a good book for an ENT specialist, especially for someone in training whilst it is also a great book for a non ENT specialist like a GP.” – Dr Harry Brown, Glycosmedia"This concisely-written text is annotated with many colour clinical images and scans. The design is very different to most books: the six sections cover the main domains of the specialty – head and neck, rhinology, laryngology, otology and neurotology, facial plastics and paediatrics…The book is multi-authored with 39 of 41 contributors from the USA. This may give the book a bias towards North American practice that the reader should bear in mind, particularly in regard to terminology. However, any reader who is just starting in otolaryngology will relish the vast array of images and gain a rapid overview of the main factors with each of the described disorders." – Andrew C Swift, University Hospital Aintree, LiverpoolTable of ContentsOtology. Safety Concerns for Herbal Drugs examines that question and others like it to give you the information you need to judge for yourself the balance between the risks and benefits associated with the therapeutic use of medicinal plants. It stands out from other books by directing your attention to the aspects of safety and toxicity. The authors venture into the relatively unexplored (or deliberately hidden) side of the picture. They present a survey of approximately 1500 medicinal plants and herbal products, 59 global (from 27 countries) and 75 Indian examples of toxic and adverse effects and drug interactions. Additionally, they present the current status of regulatory laws and their enforcement in 73 countries to support their contention that such laws and enforcement are inadequate, and that herbal drugs are unscientifically beinTrade Review"Professors Divya Vohora and S.B. Book SynopsisThe personal interface between clinician and patient is a misunderstood subject which can impact all areas of health care. Without adequate training in relationship science clinicians inadvertently contribute to empathic failure, poor medical decision process, difficulty changing health-related behavior, costly variation and derailment of care, extra litigation, and clinician burnout.Relationship Power in Health Care presents new knowledge and skills that empower health care and wellness professionals to become competent facilitators of behavior and lifestyle change, information transfer, and medical decision making in collaboration with their patients. The new approaches are supported by a wide variety of research and clinical evidence, derived from modern psychotherapy, brain biology, and the latest advances in health coaching and nursing science. Putting them to work to improve health care makes good sense both scientifically and ethically. This comprehensive Trade Review"When people are sick they are also highly vulnerable and impressionable. Interactions with health care professionals take on tremendous import and can strongly affect: the course of their illnesses; how well they follow clinical advice; and how they feel about and care for themselves. Their emphasis on the importance of clinician self-care and self-awareness is forward thinking. Book SynopsisIn Algonquian folklore, the wetiko is a cannibal monster or spirit that possesses a person, rendering them monstrous. In The Wetiko Legal Principles, Hadley Friedland explores how the concept of a wetiko can be used to address the unspeakable happenings that endanger the lives of many Indigenous children. Friedland critically analyses Cree and Anishinabek stories and oral histories alongside current academic and legal literature to find solutions to the frightening rates of intimate violence and child victimization in Indigenous communities. She applies common-law legal analysis to these Indigenous stories and creates a framework for analysing stories in terms of the legal principles that they contain. The author reveals similarities in thinking and theorizing around the dynamics of wetikos and offenders in cases of child sexual victimization. Friedland’s respectful, strength-based, trauma-informed approach builds on the work of John Trade Review"The Wetiko Legal Principles is a timely and interesting book that addresses prevalent issues in Indigenous communities, such as child victimization and violence, in a unique fashion by mixing narrative and legal analysis." -- Evan Best * Saskatchewan Law Review, vol 82 *Table of ContentsStory #1: Sweet Dirt Chapter 1: Introduction and Methodology Chapter 2: The Wetiko as a Legal Concept or Category Chapter 3: Understanding the Dynamics: The Wetiko and Child Victimization Chapter 4: The Wetiko Legal Principles Chapter 5: Future Directions in Wetiko Law Story #2: Beyond Sweet Dirt Bibliography

Book SynopsisAdding to a growing body of knowledge about how the social-ecological dynamics of the Anthropocene affect human health, this collection presents strategies that both address core challenges, including climate change, stagnating economic growth, and rising socio-political instability, and offers novel frameworks for living well on a finite planet. Rather than directing readers to more sustainable ways to structure health systems, Health in the Anthropocene navigates the transition toward social-ecological systems that can support long-term human and environmental health, which requires broad shifts in thought and action, not only in formal health-related fields, but in our economic models, agriculture and food systems, ontologies, and ethics. Arguing that population health will largely be decided at the intersection of experimental social innovations and appropriate technologies, this volume calls readers to turn their attention toward social movements, practicesTable of ContentsAcknowledgements Introduction to Health in the Anthropocene: Living Well on a Finite Planet Katharine Zywert, University of Waterloo and Stephen Quilley, University of Waterloo Part 1, Population Health in the Anthropocene: Addressing Wicked Problems in the Transition to an Alternative Social-Ecological System Guided by Ecological Constraints Introduction Katharine Zywert, University of Waterloo and Stephen Quilley, University of Waterloo Individual or Community as a Frame of Reference for Health in Modernity and in the Anthropocene Stephen Quilley, University of Waterloo "Regional Overload" as an Indicator of Profound Risk: A Plea for the Public Health Community to Awaken Colin Butler, University of Canberra Medicine and Healthcare in the Anthropocene: Who Pays and Why?
