Thieme Medical Publishers Inc Abbreviated MRI of the Breast: A Practical Guide
Book SynopsisAlthough mammography is the primary method used for breast cancer screening, screening mammography is limited especially in women with dense breasts, which includes nearly 50% of all women in the United States. Despite improvements such as digital mammography, computed aided detection, and digital breast tomosynthesis, breast cancer continues to be a leading cause of cancer-related death in women. The recent proliferation of screening breast ultrasound has led to increased health care costs and false positives, with only a slight improvement in breast cancer detection. It is time for a better test. This is the first textbook dedicated to the subject of abbreviated breast MRI (AB-MR). The editors are principal investigators in the first multicenter trial evaluating AB-MR. Each chapter is authored by a leading expert in the field of breast MRI. AB-MR only takes 10 minutes or less to perform, has a comparable cost to screening breast ultrasound, and detects twice as many cancers compared to combined screening with mammography and ultrasound. The improved performance of AB-MR is irrespective of breast density, family history, overall breast cancer risk, and cancer characteristics (e.g. type, staging, invasive or intraductal, primary or recurrent). As such, it will likely become a routine screening tool in women with dense breasts. Key Features A background on breast MR imaging including a review of current research data Fundamental guidelines for implementing, performing, and interpreting AB-MR Technical approaches with proven efficacy, including biopsy methods Accurate interpretation presented in an easy-to-read flow chart format More than 250 high quality color illustrations AB-MR has the potential to help radiologists overcome breast cancer screening limitations and change current standards of practice. This book provides radiologists with the necessary tools to quickly incorporate AB-MR into clinical practice, with an ultimate goal of improved breast cancer detection rates and patient outcomes.Table of Contents1. Springer Nature Switzerland AG Imaging Gliomas After Treatment: A Case-based
Book SynopsisThis book illustrates the characteristics of imaging after treatment in brain gliomas. It describes in detail the modifications to brain tissue, both healthy and pathological, that can manifest after surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy treatment. These modifications are discussed in terms of both how they occur in the immediate post-treatment period, and in the long term. The imaging methods used include CT with and without the addition of contrast medium, but above all MRI, which involves the use of routine basic sequences and mainly advanced study techniques such as diffusion, perfusion, spectroscopy and cortical activation. The aim of the text is to equip neuroradiologists with adequate expertise in post-treatment examinations reporting, allowing them to perform an effective differential diagnosis between the persistency or recurrence of illness and the effects of short or long-term treatment. The book is divided into a general section, which addresses the classification of cerebral tumors, the surgical treatment options, radiotherapy and chemotherapy protocols; and a section on clinical cases that employs rich iconography, making it quick and easy to consult. This second edition has been updated to reflect the new WHO classification system from 2016; new surgical, radiotherapy and chemotherapeutic treatment options; and (in the iconography section) the new sequences available from the manufacturers of RM scanners.Table of Contents

Springer Nature Switzerland AG Transradial Access in Interventional Radiology:
Book SynopsisThis book provides how-to recommendations and detailed guides for using transradial access in interventional radiology. A relatively new and growing technique, transradial access is most commonly found within interventional cardiology. This book approaches those cardiac uses of transradial access while extending its use to other body sites and disease states. The book details the interventional radiologist’s transition to using transradial access across a broad spectrum of clinical applications, allowing them to better introduce it into their practice and to their patients. The text is divided into three sections: overview, clinical applications, and novel applications and techniques. The first section covers the history of transradial access, the initial patient assessment, and how to prepare for a procedure. The second section is divided into different diseases and interventional situations where transradial access could be considered, including subclavian artery stenosis and endovascular neurosurgery. The third section includes coverage of how to perform the latest techniques and projections for future procedures. This guide provides a manual of operations to assist in the setup of the practice, from office visit to procedure room to recovery across a variety of service lines and patient populations. Key take home points and equipment summaries accompany each chapter, allowing the user to easily navigate the book to accelerate his or her practice. Springer International Publishing AG Limb Preservation for the Vascular Specialist:
Book SynopsisThis book is a comprehensive guide to the essentials of arterial, venous, wound care, and multidisciplinary approaches to prevent major amputation and manage patients with critical limb threatening ischemia (CLTI). Limb preservation has become increasingly prioritized as endovascular techniques, equipment, understanding of multidisciplinary wound care, and other medical treatments have rapidly evolved. Quite often, these patients have CLTI, which is a primarily chronic arterial disease that carries a higher mortality rate than most cancers and cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, complex venous issues contribute to patients losing their limbs, causing significant morbidity to patients and immense cost to the medical system. Many of these patients have diabetes, kidney problems, and hypertension. Due to the advances in the treatment of CLTI and complex venous diseases, medical professionals have been able to decrease major amputations, which cause the higher mortality rate described above. The knowledge of all the approaches, techniques, and management of these patients, however, has been slow to be disseminated.Acting as a structured journey to all aspects of limb preservation, this book begins by covering the basics of understanding wound care patients. This involves beginning wound care management and properly diagnosing the potential underlying processes with non-invasive imaging. From here, clinical pearls and detailed guidance on considering arterial, venous, and lymphatic therapies are covered. Chapters then move into arterial and venous treatment algorithms, from unique to complex approaches, technique tips and tricks, infection and complication management, and future options. Understanding some of the newer approaches such as deep vein arterialization and hybrid surgical approaches is integral in the discussion. Finally, authors cover evaluating the wound post-procedure and long-term, deciding when re-intervention/surgery or amputation (and which type) is needed, and how to tackle the medication management of these complex patients (such as antiplatelets, anticoagulation, diabetes, and nutrition). Chapters are written by a multidisciplinary group of experts, all with an eye towards limb preservation. This is an ideal guide for endovascular specialists, surgeons, podiatrists, infectious disease specialists, and endocrinologists to be able to successfully increase the likeliness of limb preservation for their patients with CLTI and related conditions.Table of ContentsI. Thieme Publishing Group MRI of the Musculoskeletal System
Book SynopsisThe value of MR imaging for the evaluation of musculoskeletal system disorders cannot be over-stated. It is the only imaging modality that enables visualization of all components of the joints within single examinations. Yet, given the bewildering variety of possible sequence parameters, with and without contrast medium, acquiring and interpreting MR images with confidence is a challenge, requiring experience usually only gained after examining 1000s of studies with a careful systematic approach. Like the First Edition, the Second Edition of MRI of the Musculoskeletal System assists the radiologist in acquiring the most reliable and complete imaging information, so as to achieve a high degree of diagnostic certainty quickly and efficiently. Key Features: More than 2000 MR images of reference quality, the majority new for this edition Drawings, where helpful, aid the reader in identifying and delineating normal and pathological entities Includes all the latest advanced techniques: MR neurography and myelography, diffusion imaging, quantitative MRI, mDIXON, and more All MR exams described fully, with choice of sequence, positioning, choice of coils, when/how to use contrast, protocols Discussions of possible errors in interpretation Comparison of MR imaging with other modalities Tables expand and organize information on sequence parameters and differential diagnoses More than just an authoritative reference, Vahlensieck's MRI of the Musculoskeletal System is the ideal practical helper to accompany the radiologist at the workstation on a daily basis.Table of Contents1.
