Book Synopsis''Rasskaz-Sensatsiya: v pomosh izuchayushim russkiy yazik (ne tolko dlya Gvadeluptsev)'' (The Story Sensation: for learners of the Russian language (and not only for Guadeloupians!) is a sarcastic story, a detective line, written as an aid to making the Russian language study process a little bit more bearable for adult learners. The story contains approximately 800 Russian words from such topics as clothes, food, politics, office, sports and gym, transport and business that are required for everyday communication. The audio-version can be ordered via email audio-book@russialocal.co.uk.The first five chapters (including audio and exercises) are now available for free on our website http://russianinlondon.com/rasskaz-sensatsiya.html Please visit to see for yourself what the textbook is about and whether you like it before purchasing. The story is completely fictional, with fictional characters and scenery, full of sarcasm and jokes with a mockery of stereo-types. Ignaty Dyakov, professional Russian teacher, wrote it as an aid to making the Russian language study process a little bit more bearable for adult learners. By no means can it be seen as a substitute for the classical language textbook but the author''s humble hope is that it can become a useful and enjoyable supplement to the course materials for Elementary & Pre-Intermediate levels.''Rasskaz Sensatsiya'' contains approximately 800 words that are required for everyday communication. Every word appears in the text several times so that the learner can become accustomed to its meaning in the context. The author tried to include words from such topics as clothes, food, politics, office, sports and gym, transport and business. He also tried to use some common Russian set expressions and proverbs and quotes from famous songs. There are many dialogues in the story. There are lists of new words in every chapter. No translation is provided so that the learner can make a note of the meanings in their own language. At the end of the book, one can find a concise Russian-English dictionary. The story is written in slightly simplified Russian. Thus, the learner will find it easier to recognise and memorise grammar structures. At the end of each chapter there are questions and/or grammar exercises. The book is published in association with Russia Local Ltd, Russo-British Chamber of Commerce andctms Travel Agency. Illustrated by Gregg Ink.Praise for the book:A brilliant debut! No doubts this textbook will be extremely useful to the learners of the Russian language who are also interested in the current state of Russia, its history, culture, and people. /Dr Alexander Zdanevich, Director, Russian Centre of Science and Culture, Tanzania/This is a very unique and original approach to language learning, it gives the reader useful everyday words and phrases in the context of a compelling story that makes you want to read and learn more. A real change from the norm of formal boring language books. /Richard Royal, Chairman, Conservative Friends of Russia, UK/An entertaining read. Gives a nice impression ? easy to grasp, a thriller and a series of exercises./Arthur Matikyan, Head of UK, Ireland & Iceland representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo/Unconventional material? Specifics of the pedagogical technology suggested by the author are based on the text principle and oriented at active learning and development of the creative language personality? The work laudably impresses and can be used as a textbook for foreign learners. /Prof Lyudmila Verbitskaya, President of the International Association of Teachers of the Russian language and literature, President of St Petersburg State University/

Book SynopsisA book for Welsh learners, Entry Level, in the 'Amdani' series. Elsa Bowen works as a private detective. She usually deals with insurance fraud, but that all changes on this Wednesday morning. Elsa B's attention is drawn to the bookshop in Caernarfon where strange things are happening. The story focuses on Lilith Lewis, a local gangster who causes trouble.Trade ReviewMae’r nofel hon yn ticio sawl bocs: 1.) Mae’n berffaith ar gyfer dysgwyr lefel Mynediad, ac mae’r paragraff cyntaf mor syml: “Elsa Bowen dw i. Ditectif preifat dw i. Dw i’n byw yng Nghaernarfon.” Bydd yn rhoi hyder i’r dysgwr o’r cychwyn cyntaf. Mae’r ail baragraff yn defnyddio ‘roedd’ ac ‘mi wnes’ ac mae’r patrymau yn aros yn gyson syml at y diwedd. Ond mae’r awdur yn diwtor Cymraeg hynod brofiadol sydd wedi dysgu’r iaith ei hunan, flynyddoedd yn ôl, felly yn ddewis perffaith. 2.) Nofel dditectif ydi hi – rhywbeth prin yn y Gymraeg. 3.) Mae llawer o’r stori yn digwydd mewn siop lyfrau! Syniad gwych sy’n gweithio’n dda. 4.) Mae hi wedi ei lleoli yn y gogledd – Caernarfon, i fod yn fanwl gywir, ac mae llyfrau ar gyfer dysgwyr sydd wedi eu lleoli yn y gogledd, efo iaith ogleddol, wedi bod yn brin iawn tan yn ddiweddar. 5.) Nid addasiad mohoni, ond nofel wreiddiol o ben a phastwn Pegi, sy’n ei gwneud yn llawer mwy diddorol a pherthnasol. 6.) Merch gref yw’r prif gymeriad – a’r dihiryn. 7.) Mae’n perthyn i gyfres, sef Cyfres Amdani. Mae’r llyfrau i gyd wedi eu harchwilio’n ofalus gan yr un criw, felly bydd y patrymau iaith a’r eirfa yn gyson. Hefyd, maen nhw wedi eu graddoli ar bedair lefel, a dyma’r lefel gyntaf, felly bydd y dysgwyr yn gallu symud ymlaen gam wrth gam a thrwy hynny yn gweld y cynnydd yn eu gallu i ddarllen a deall Cymraeg. 8.) Mae ynddi luniau – rhai du a gwyn gan Hywel Griffith, yn arddull hen lyfrau ditectif. Maen nhw’n sicr yn ychwanegu at y testun ac yn help i gynnal y naws noir. 9.) Mae’r eirfa ar waelod pob tudalen ond hefyd mewn bold yn y stori, ac eto wedyn mewn rhestr yn ôl y wyddor yn y cefn. Defnyddiol iawn. A be am y stori ei hun? Mae’n gweithio: ro’n i’n hoffi Elsa, y prif gymeriad yn arw. Fel pob ditectif da, dydi hi ddim yn berffaith. O ran y plot, ro’n i eisiau gwybod be oedd yn y llyfrau roedd y ‘gangsters’ yn dod i’w casglu o’r siop, ond wna i ddim difetha’r stori i chi fan hyn. Ac ro’n i’n arbennig o hoff o’r diweddglo, sy’n awgrymu’n gynnil bod mwy o helyntion Elsi i ddod. Ond dydi hi byth yn glawio yng Nghaernarfon go iawn, wrth gwrs! -- Bethan Gwanas @ www.gwales.com

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisThis edition of Little Women contains a retold novel, an introduction, notes on the author, notes on the period when the book is set, the book's themes, a simple glossary, and a free CD (running time 2 hours). The book on the CD is read slowly and clearly to aid comprehension. Little Women is an American novel, set in a small town in New England at the time of the American Civil War, and tells the story of the four March sisters: Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy, as they grow up. As their father is away fighting in the Civil War he is absent for most of the novel, and their mother is away visiting poorer families who need help, so the story's focus is on how the girls cope with growing up, financial shortages, family tragedies and romantic rivalries. The novel was published as two volumes in 1868 and 1869 and was very successful, with the reading public demanding a sequel. In the novel, Jo wants to be a writer and independent. The girls also come to terms with the boy next door, Laurie, whom they meet and make friends with. Laurie proposes to Jo at the end of the novel, and is a major character in the story. Little Women is a sentimental story but it also explores various themes from a female perspective, such as importance of work, and the struggle between family duty and individual ambition, and gender stereotyping.
