Search Press Ltd Mini Knitted Cosmos: Over 40 Woolly Aliens,
Book SynopsisBestselling author Sachiyo Ishii gives us mini knitted astronauts, planets, satellites, moon buggies, aliens and a whole host of astro-animals such as dogs, bunnies, elephants and giraffes. Knit your own fabulous cosmos with this delightful book! All the projects are quick and relatively simple to make, with very easy techniques to follow. There is a step-by-step section on how to sew the figures and animals together and the patterns are all suitable for competent beginners. Including full-size templates and more than 40 simple knitting patterns, this is all you need to make your very own knitted cosmos.Trade ReviewWow, some of the projects really are tiny, made the penguin which is a dinky 4cm! A great way to use up those odds and ends left over from other projects. All use DK and 4ply but I guess you could scale them up. The book takes the usually format; tools & materials, some knitting info/tips, abbreviations and a fairly detailed bit on construction, all accompanied by lovely pictures and illustrations. Next come the projects, and there are lots, all written in simple terms, and only using knit and purl! The more in depth patterns have some traceable templates in the back for cardboard reinforcement. Aliens, people and space animals, rockets, UFOs, even a satellite and moon buggy! All adorable and fun! As they're all knitted flat (and small) I found them quite quick to make although some bits a tiny bit fiddly to sew on due to the size, made easier by some well placed glass headed pins. Perfect for anyone just getting in to toy making or someone wanting a quick scrap buster project, I was surprised at how creative the projects were despite the simplicity and it certainly won't break the bank! And your kids will love them! -- Charlotte Blakey * Customer review *This book is full of fantastic characters featuring step-by-step instructions on how to sew, stuff and embroider the features. A fantastic book which covers everything a child could love and learn about space and planets. As the book says take your knitting to infinity and beyond. I will enjoy knitting these characters for my grandchildren. -- Jill Thrussell * Customer review *Lovely collection of patterns with a space theme. As well as fifteen different animals to crochet and love, including a dragon, a polar bear, a red panda and a pig, you can also make a mini Mabel, octopus and koala, which are 30-40cm tall. The projects are pitched at beginners to improvers and are suitable for someone who has mastered the basics of crochet. So be inspired, choose a pattern to start and be prepared to fall in love with this collection of adorable toys.Trade ReviewI am barely a crocheter, but I am wholly smitten with this book. This book answers the question, what happens if you crochet animals with big yarn? The answers is adorable, cuddle-sized, animals. The critters look like large scale amigurumi, happy, friendly friends. Using chunky yarn and a US 11 hook, you can make any one of the fifteen animals in a night or two. The book opens with a how to on he crochet stitches needed for the animals and techniques on how to assemble your parts. The animals, a bunny, lamb, dragon, octopus, puppy, and many others range between 25”-27” tall, a perfect armful. The bunny, octopus and koala all have babies that are about half the size, and use the same pattern with smaller yarn and a finer hook. The patterns are very straightforward, and are worked in pieces to be later sewn together. The photography helpfully shows any bits you might like to see up close before making, like toes, ears, tails, and any special stitches. Grab this book, yarn and hook and you’ll soon have a flock of animal friends to keep or give away to anyone that needs a snuggle. -- Jillian Moreno * Knitty.com *One for all you multi-crafters, this super-cute crocheted oversized toy bible by Claire Gelder is a must for makes with the 'aww' factor Measuring 70cm from head to paw, Claire's book guides you through how to create each animal and the extra details such as the signature heart patch for each of the 15 adorable toys such as Teetee the dragon, Florence the red panda and Doris the sloth, all perfect gifts to yourself or a loved one any time of year. * Simply Cards and Papercraft *Written by Claire Gelder, Mabel Bunny & Co features 15 crochet projects made from soft, chunky yard. Subjects include a dragon, polar bear, red panda and pig, as well as three mini-makes. The book is aimed at beginners and improvers, and retails at £12.99. * Craft Focus *This is a lovely book. The patterns are easy to read with the added bonus of being written in both UK and US terms which will be helpful for lots of crocheters. The animals are super cute and will be well loved by any child. I'm currently struggling to choose which one to make first! -- Penny Hassell * Customer review *This book is gorgeous - it is laid out with very clear instructions (set out clearly in both US and UK crocheting terminology) and has excellent photographic diagrams of how to make all of the stitches required to make Mabel and her family. I firmly believe that these animals could be made by someone who is very new to crochet right through to well established crocheters. Mabel & Co are made using a super chunky wool which produces some surprisingly large toys! I hadn't realised the size of them until I opened the book (probably a couple of foot in height if held up to let the legs dangle). I really think this is part of their charm, and stands them apart from other crochet toys, but I am sure that if a smaller wool was used, they would come up just as well (just smaller!). Also, the chunky wool and hook size will help less confident crocheters produce something lovely as it will be much easier to see the stitches you are creating as you go. Overall, this book looks great and I cannot wait to start making Mabel and her family! -- Lizzie Copeland * Customer review *Love the book so much. In many ways the patterns are similar to other animal patterns but I made the dragon and had a lot of fun with the little twiddles that make the pattern unique. Following the instructions was easy (all written, not diagrams, in clear text, sensibly sized). I think following the patterns is great but am also going to enjoy adding my own twists! Love how the individual digits look! I recommend this book wholeheartedly! Also instructions are given in US and UK format (UK in brackets), so easy to follow if you struggle with the nomenclature! If you like the creatures get this book and play! -- Gill Colling * Customer review *A truly stunning book with very clear directions and lots of photographs to guide you with the how to do. Which one of the animals to choose is virtually impossible as all 15 are so gorgeous, and all the patterns are clearly written with easy to understand terms. A real asset and inspiration to any one who loves to crochet and a book that is so well written and lovely to work with. Thank you I am tending toward working up a dragon, or maybe Mabel, which one to choose ? -- Alice Monique * Customer review *A very appealing book with extremely clear instructions for how to actually do all the necessary crochet stitches, how to crochet each animal, how to complete each animal and lovely little finishing touches to make each animal even more special. A perfect book for both beginners and those more experienced at crocheting. I was also intrigued with the connection with Dragons' Den. Certainly to be recommended. -- Wendy Harvey * Customer review *Fall in love with these oversized toys, then crochet them all, including three mini versions. Mabel Bunny & Co. is a truly delightful collection of crochet animals that are just waiting to become your friend. If you have any little people in your life (or just fancy having an extremely huggable crochet pal yourself) then this book is perfect for you. They are designed by Claire Gelder, who has created her own business, Wool Couture, and also got investment from two of BBC TV's Dragons' Den investors in order to pass on her passion for all things crafty to future generations. Claire has her own range of chunky yarn which you can use to create the animals, but of course you don't have to use that. I like the idea of using yarn of different thicknesses and adjusting the hook size to make a whole family of creatures. Claire actually does this with three of the patterns but there's no reason why you can't do it with all of them! The book includes lots of information on tools and materials as well as a comprehensive guide to techniques with some excellent photo tutorials. So even if you are a beginner crocheter, there's no reason why you can't have a go. There's also some really helpful advice on how to bring the animals to life. If you've made a soft toy before, you'll know how important it is to get the features looking 'just right'. Claire holds your hand through the making up process so you're guaranteed to be happy with the results. There are 15 different animals in the book, all designed to be soft and floppy, perfect for hugs and cuddles. There are three levels of difficulty in the book, indicated in a fun way with bunny symbols. It's very hard to pick a favourite, they are all so adorable and tactile. I just want to reach into the pages of the book and give them a hug. But here are a few that have caught my eye in particular... Once I get all my Christmas gift making out of the way, I'm going to be stash diving to make my own polar bear, she is just too irresistible! You are never too old for a hug in my view! Mabel Bunny & Co. is a really lovely book that would make the perfect gift for a crocheting friend, or for you to make your own collection of cuddly creatures. The book is written in US crochet terms (with UK terms in brackets) and is available at bookshops as well as all the usual online sellers. You can even buy kits to make some of the animals from the Wool Couture website. * The Exploits of Josie Kitten Blog *Launched on September 1, 2019, Claire's first book, 'Mabel Bunny & Co.', boasts 15 loveable animals, including dragons, lambs and alpacas, to crochet with chunky yarn, plus a fabulous foreword by 'Dragons' Touker Suleyman and Tej Lalvani. -- Angela Sara West * Craft Business *Claire Gelder used craft as therapy during periods of darkness. She teamed up with her sister Ali in 2016 and a year later won the support of two investors on the BBC's Dragon's Den, and her luxury crochet kits and soft merino yarn have won the hearts of many a crafter since. The designs are modern yet timeless pieces which are perfect for the age category of 3-9 years of age. I particularly like the Hestehov Sweater Dress for my young daughter and the Stort Fro Mittens as Christmas gifts. I really like the layout of this book and would thoroughly recommend it to any keen knitters. -- Emma Owen * Amazon Customer Review *Norwegian knitting is loved for its practicality, texture and traditional patterning. These 15 Nordic-inspired clothes and accessories for children aged 3 to 9 years, blend classic Scandi style with fun and functionality. * Machine Knitting Monthly *Monica Russel has created this pattern book as she 'felt that there has been a gap in the market for traditional and contemporary patterns for children aged 3 to 9'. She also believes that 'there are relatively few designs that are unisex or for boys'. The book starts with a short history of Nordic Knitting and the obligatory pages on yarn, tools, techniques, with good illustrations on stranded colour work, cables, I-cord and finishing. Pages 36 and 37 give the colour thumbnails of the 15 designs which start with a hat/scarf set and end with a long-sleeved, yoked cardigan. The patterns all have written out, row-by-row instructions, with clear charts for the stranded colour work. Sizing is given in the pattern instructions but there are no schematics. The patterns are split between 14 accessories and 14 garments, with one toy completing the collections. The designs are worked in sympathetic colourways, which should appeal to the target audience, and the knitting is well within the reach of an intermediate knitter looking for fresh inspiration to clothe youngsters. -- Linde Merrick * Slip Knot *This book is lovely. Many beautiful items to knit. I particularly like the look of the teddy bear. As yet I have not attempted to knit anything but the instructions look very clear. I am sure it will be well used. -- Brian Lewis * Amazon Customer Review *Beautiful book full of fabulous knits and oh the teddy bear is stunning. This book is packed with detail of every item you need and how to cast on through to finishing end knit. Dive right in and knit with these eye-catching yarns with 10 unique lessons teaching skills such as cabling, lace, alternating stripes, thrums, stranded colourwork, mosaic, intarsia, short rows and simple knit and purl combinations all using gradient yarns. Build up your skills with patterns for garments and accessories from designers around the world. Gradients are a perfect way to add a unique dimension to your work. Go from light to dark, mix things up, work with multiple colourways or knit your way through the rainbow! With countless options available, the possibilities are as endless as what your imagination can create! This book offers a blend of beginner through to advanced projects, allowing the knitter to build their skills with each project.Trade ReviewTanis Gray is a knitwear designer who enjoys using colour in her work. With the increase in designer yarns and the multitude of colours available it is not always easy to know how to use them to best effect. This book includes 10 lessons and projects using ombre, stranded colourwork and texture to help both the new and experienced knitter do just that. Techniques covered include intarsia, Fair Isle, thrumming, lace and cabling. There is also information on modular knitting, short-row shaping and knitting-in-the-round. The latter part of the book comprehensively covers basic knitting techniques with clear instructions and photographs to illustrate. There are even illustrations to show the difference between English and Continental ways of holding yarn. Tinking (un-knitting) and frogging (ripping out) also get a mention, something you don't often see in how-to books but so very necessary! This book would be perfect for knitters who wish to increase their repertoire of skills and techniques. Having personally never come across thrumming, the mittens would be an ideal first project, whilst the lace shawl would be the perfect way to show off a single-gradient yarn ball. Either for yourself, or as a gift combined with a ball of gradient yarn, this book would be a good addition to your collection. -- Judith Evans (Birmingham & District Guild) * Journal for Weavers, Spinners and Dyers *A great book, the patterns are easy to follow. -- Jo Udall * Customer Review *really is a book which can be used by beginners & more experienced knitters as there are projects to suit all levels. Each project has an introduction which explains what skills will be involved & the aim of the project. This page includes a list of what items you will need to complete the project, the tension and the approximate finished size. Each pattern also includes a section on pattern notes giving helpful tips about why certain techniques are used at points in the pattern. Where a new skill is introduced there are clear photographs with equally clear instructions given which I find straightforward to follow. Additionally, the book includes an introduction to colour theory & choosing yarns whilst at the back are many helpful basic knitting techniques explained very clearly & the abbreviations used in the patterns. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wanted to put more colour into their knitting but feels a little lacking in confidence, this is the guidance you have been looking for -- Louise Waters * Customer review *Gradient Knits by Tanis Gray ..... Love this book ..it has a hive of information ...beautifully illustrated pictures with easy to follow wording from how to cast on to easy to follow charts for the patterns. This book has a lovely array of knits that make you want to pick up your needles and have a go at making a pair of soxs or mittens or maybe start by knitting a hat. Then for those that want to learn to knit (which can be very daunting) this book will teach you step by step . A book to enjoy and share ....... -- Pauline Forster * Customer review *beautiful book by the publishers - but this has not swayed my thoughts on this colourful book. I have been knitting for a number of years now but was looking for something new to do, when this book arrived on my doorstep....... It has ten projects, all of which have an explanation at the beginning (lesson). There are pictures to show you what she is talking about. The patterns are clear, including any important notes. For those who are still getting to grips with knitting there is a chapter at the end of the book that explains basic knitting techniques, again this includes pictures where appropriate. Overall I found this a very well thought out book. There are some easy projects, but there are definitely projects for the more advanced knitter. Fantastic book. Well worth a look! X -- Nicola Taylor * Customer review *Thank you to Search Press for sending me a review copy of Gradient Knits. I'd recommend this book to all knitters, whether you're a beginner or your skills are more advanced. There are ten lessons and projects using ombré, stranded colourwork, slip stitch and textures, so there's something to appeal to all tastes and skill levels. After a brief introduction from the author, Tanis Gray, about gradient yarns, and a double page spread about how to use the book, Chapter 1 takes you through choosing the right gradient, Chapter 2 contains ten lessons and projects, Chapter 3 is a guide to the tools, materials and core knitting skills you'll need so that you can work through the techniques in the book, and there's a useful list of abbreviations at the back, and an index. The photographs demonstrating each technique are clear and the instructions easy to follow, and all are in wonderful colour. The only criticism I have is that if I were putting the book together, I'd have put the contents of Chapter 3 before the lessons and projects, but that's just an observation. A lovely book to give or receive! -- Dorothy Thomas * Customer review *This is a lovely book which would make a good addition to the library of any knitter who loves colour (as if we need an excuse!) The cover is eye-catching and the book is a great size to tuck into my knitting bag for projects 'on-the-go' After a short introduction and some useful information about colour theory, the projects start. Each lesson has a techniques section which could be practised before starting the actual project - maybe to try out before buying the yarn. The photos for each new technique are clear, as are the written instructions. Each project is a little more technically demanding than the previous one, enabling the knitter to develop skills and build confidence before tackling some of the trickier techniques. There's something to learn for everyone. Even as an experienced knitter I have never seen thrumming before - I'll be trying that out for some warm winter mittens. Chapter 3 on basic knitting techniques is useful for those who are newer to knitting and gives good photographic and written instructions. I would have liked to see a reference to the abbreviations page at the start of each of the patterns/lessons. It's tucked away at the back of the book - which is fine but I had to go searching for it as I didn't see it mentioned (editors, there's also a mistake in the alphabetical listing of the abbreviations, but that's just me being picky!) Also, I was a little disappointed that I could find few, if any, of the named yarns in the UK, meaning that I would have to work out substitutes for every project. Not such a problem, but might be off-putting to some who like to recreate exactly what they see. Maybe some more widely available yarn alternatives could have been added in to yarns used page. Overall, this is a beautiful book full of colour and with lots of good photographs and some interesting use of gradient yarns (some yarns are maybe more accurately described as yarn sets rather than gradients). I'll be casting on the 'Colour-study Cowl' and the 'Thrummed Mittens' very soon. -- Steph Saward * Customer review *Received this book and was really excited to be inspired to use one of the gorgeous gradient sets in my stash. I like how the book is laid out with the instructions for the specific stitch and a bit of history prior to the pattern which then uses that stitch or technique. I think I may struggle with the lace pattern as it is written in chart format and is not clear when to change colour, I am hoping once I have cast on this will become more apparent, although I am still apprehensive. I would have liked to have seen more pictures or patterns that use same colour gradients or ombre effect to create the work. -- Ellen Jury * Customer review *This book is a little delight…. The world of ombré (gradient colour) and knitting has always intrigued me…yet if I’m honest scared me as well! I am not the world’s best knitter by a long mark but this book has introduced me to new, previously unknown cast on stitches, knitting techniques and most of all the delights of colours. Wool is available in a host of variants, you think about buying but don’t because you’re not sure what to do … well, the book is simply perfect for that task. It gently guides you through, stitches, wools, patterns of course and the end products are modern and up to date, yet……….. depending on your choice of colourways could be retro for that added twist. Personally, this book will be a great addition to any crafters bookcase……. Although I am not sure how much time it will spend there as will be in use more often than not when a knitting project is on the go… from refresher how-to reading, or simply a colour fix project, you will find it all in here. -- Vera Lily * Customer review *Table of ContentsIntroduction Chapter 1: Choosing the right gradient Chapter 2: The Lessons Knits and purls Slip stitch colourwork Alternating gradient stripes Thrumming Cabling with gradients Stranded colourwork Intarsia polka dots Lace knitting Modular knitting German short rows Chapter 3: Basic knitting techniques Resources Index

The Crowood Press Ltd Knitting Stitch-led Design
Book SynopsisKnitting is one of the most versatile and exciting of textile structures. This book rediscovers its potential by exploring new ideas for design through the power of the stitch. Written for the dedicated knitter, it goes into the fine detail of how knitting works, questioning and examining how stitches can influence and shape the fabric by pulling in, pulling up, and making it stretchy or firm, thick or thin. Over forty projects are included that range from simple, straightforward scarves and bags to more intricate jackets and organic sculptural 3D pieces. A dictionary of stitches compares each stitch with stocking stitch, and shows how the shape and feel of knitting can be changed dramatically. A chapter explores different ways of shaping fabric around the edges and even within the knitting, using increases, decreases and short-row shaping to texture the surface or to make three-dimensional forms. Step-by-step instructions are supported with explanations, charts, diagrams and photos. Techniques are discussed in depth to help understand different outcomes and how 'problems' can be used creatively. Detailed, innovative and inspiring, it is invaluable reading for all knitters and textile designers.

A great assortment of easy to make patterns, love the fact that the body and legs are knitted in one. Each project uses small amounts of yarn, so great for using up odd balls. Didn't have any fleecy dk, so just used normal dk, pets looked just as cute. Particularly like the Penguin, currently making the Robin, never too early to start for Christmas. Not so keen on the bunny, but that's probably my fault, mine looks more like a lamb, but is still cute! Would definitely recommend if wanting quick, easy and very cute toys for very little cost. -- Stella Swaine * Customer review *What a great book. The instructions are really clear and the animals are so cute. They will be great for our craft group as they can be done in a session and the grandkids will love them too. Sachiyo Ishii does great designs. Thank you to her and search Press for another amazing book. -- Wendy Sawyer * Customer review *Great book! Easy to follow instructions. Cute and simple to follow designs. -- Samantha Ripley O'Donnell * Customer review *These wonderful books are just crammed with projects that any animal fan will love. Cats, Chicks, Fox, and a fabulous Otter are just some of the creations designed by the brilliant Sachiyo Ishii. The amount of information that comes with the book is amazing and ensures that any knitter, no matter what your ability will be able to make any project from this book. I loved them all, although being a cat fan that had to be my first project. The designs are small, standing just 6in tall, depending on the pet, and the best thing is, that you can use your scrap stash to make them. They all use just a small amount of yarn. With full instructions and a complete abbreviation guide, Pocket Pets is set out perfectly. There are descriptions for adding beads, embroidery ideas and more than a few techniques to get the best from your knitting. This is a wonderful book. I absolutely adored it. -- Tracy Shephard * Postcard Reviews *This lovely book will be very useful for making small gifts and items for sales tables. I look forward to trying these designs with primary school children who I have been teaching to knit on a voluntary basis since 2011. I may need to adapt the wool because I suspect the fleece yarn might be difficult for the children to need. I intend to try out the designs ASAP. -- Jacqui Dove * Customer review *This book is great for knitters who like making small pets. -- Pauline Pritchard * Customer review *The '20 to' series are great value for money and I have knitted patterns from this designer before so I had high hopes for this book. I wasn't disappointed, all the designs are lovely and only use small amounts of yarn. I had some white fleecy yarn left from a previous project so I had a go at making a mouse. The pattern was really easy to follow and my son is very pleased with his new pocket pet. I think knitters of all abilities will enjoy this book, although complete beginners might want to practice with the fleecy yarn first as it can be a little trickier to see the stitches. -- Nicola Urmenyi * Customer review *Priced at £4.99, 20 To Knit: Pocket Pets features a range of patterns for quick and easy fleece yarn makes. Trade ReviewI received this book to review. such a lovely book to look at with lots of different patterns to knit for some very cute critters even vest and pants! love the easy to follow pictures which is great for a beginner like me. also loved that there was clothes to sew from fabric aswell. lots of lovely photos too, very enjoyable. i can't wait to start knitting. -- Claire Ireland * Customer Review *This is a lovely book. With easy to follow instructions. -- Tracey Macdonald * Customer Review *I bought this book at the Edinburgh Yarn Festival, because I was utterly charmed. I showed it to everyone there, and I wanted to show it to everyone here too. I love knitting patterns for toys of any kind - bears, dolls, creatures. And this one hits the jackpot! It's patterns for adorable creatures in doll-form, with patterns for the various outfits to match! Each of the seven dolls - puppy, kitten, bear, panda, mouse, monkey and bunny - comes with a pattern for a mini-me. And the outfits and accessories - most knitted, but some sewn -are ridiculously cute and clever. There's a sweater or two, as you'd expect, but there are also dresses and jeans and shoes and socks and slippers and stripey tights (YES!!!!! REALLY!!!) amd pjs and even a house-coat and undies! The accessories are very pleasing: there's a little felt school satchel and bedding and books and a picnic basket and all sorts of other delights, all knitted or sewn. The book itself is terrific: well-illustrated, with good patterns and helpful tutorials for key knitting techniques, and the sewing and embroidery skills required. The dolls are worked in worsted/DK yarn and clothes and accessories for fingering. Although entirely appropriate for making gifts for babies and small children, this sort of thing may well appeal to adult knitters who are in need of smaller projects to use up leftovers, or just a dose of clever and charming cuteness. -- Kate Atherly * Knitty.com *Knit five 8” cute animals and their “mini me” doll counterparts plus a whole wardrobe of mix and match outfits with this fun stash-busting book. Choose from bunny, mouse, kitten, monkey, puppy, teddy or panda and kit them out for school, bedtime, beach, snow or picnic. This is not a book for the total beginner as like most pattern books it does not teach knitting from scratch but improver level and upwards will enjoy these small projects. At the front several techniques featured are explained with the aid of some good-sized photographs and there are a few simple embroidery stitches to learn as well. Each toy has a life-size photograph of it front and back together with full instructions (written, no charts apart from the sweater) and there is the fun added touch of the miniature versions of the animals. Even toys need their own toys! The garments and accessories are divided into their respective themes and feature both knitting and sewing projects. These can be done by hand and are simple; the animals plus their toys can be made using a whole ball of yarn but the rest is ideal for using up odds and ends. Knitters will find this an excellent way of using up yarn and fabric and having some relaxing fun as well. * myshelf.com *May 2017 What every fashion-concious rabbit, kitten, mouse, puppy or panda needs is a fashion-forward wardrobe... and fashion forward friends. And Sue Stratford's new book has both in spades. Each of the knitted animals is the same size, and comes with its own mini version. And the clothes included fit each and every one of them, in any combination you want. There's daywear, nightwear, beachwear, footwear, wear for all seasons. The designs are made using scraps of yarn and fabrics. Perhaps when a little person has outgrown her summer dress it can be turned into a new summer dress for her hand knitted teddy or the jumper you knitted a year ago for a not-so-little-anymore little boy can be unravelled and knitted into a shirt and trousers for his toy monkey or panda. Sue Stratford knows how little hands like to dress and undress their toys. Her toys are easy to knit. They're easy to dress. What I love about it apart from the utterly gorgeous animals, their outfits, and little 'mini-me' versions of the animals themselves, are the easy and clear instructions. There are so many helpful pictures and tips, that they give me confidence even before I begin! The little clothes have full sized templates and are easy to knit. I just know that whichever project you choose, and whether you keep it or gift it it will be loved and treasured. -- Tracy Shephard * Amazon *These 15 Fair Isle projects are for crochet enthusiasts who want to go one step further. Also known as crochet tapestry, the techniques are easy to learn and all the projects are made in Natasja's unique vintage style with black and white base colours. The patterns have clear colour charts and beautiful photos of the projects. * Machine Knitting Monthly *For a long time, beautiful, detailed colourwork was considered the preserve of knitting, but more and more detailed crochet designs are showing off just what’s possible in our own versions of intarsia and stranded colourwork techniques. Fair Isle crochet is created by working more than one colour in a row, working around the strands of the other shades as you go, and this book contains 15 stylish, contemporary designs that show off this craft to great effect. Natasja begins with the basic techniques, in which she works through the back loops only to avoid the stitches skewing to one side as they stack up. Then it’s on to the patterns, all worked in simple dc stitches following full-colour charts. There’s a sweet set of baby designs, including a blanket, storage pockets and cuddly bunny, and a selection of stylish modern homewares, such as plant holders, a stunning pouffe, geometric pillows and a large throw that shows off a variety of colourwork arrangements. This is a gorgeous collection ideal for sprucing up your home and practising a versatile new technique. * Inside Crochet *The Fair Isle we all know seems a far cry from the bold Scandinavian style of the projects in this book illustrated on the front cover, but it is based on the same idea - using more than one strand of coloured yarn to make patterns based on 'one stitch = one square' and carrying the temporarily unused yarn along with the stitches as you crochet. As Natasja says, it is closely related to the Mochila technique and tapestry. There are instructions and diagrams for the few basic techniques needed for Fair Isle crochet. The author gives a useful tip to avoid tangles: use a shoe box to hold different balls and cut slits in the side to channel the different ends. The patterns all have big coloured charts and varying amounts of written instructions. There are 15 chunky, Scandinavian-style projects, all for the home, such as a baby blanket, cushion and plant pot cover. Simple motifs in black and white plus touches of other colours are used throughout. -- Sally Magill * Slipknot, The Knitting & Crochet Guild Magazine *This is an intriguing new technique, which looks like Fair Isle knitting but as the title says is actually crochet. This book is a comprehensive collection of projects for the home, from small stash busting ideas to larger projects to get your teeth into. The instructions are clear, and the first section of the book is a well written guide to working the patterns. There are lots of explanations, supported by photographs throughout, with the additional snippets. This is very useful as it means you don’t need to keep flipping back and forth to get the information you need. The fabric produces is quite thick and robust as you work over the yarn not being used on a stitch. A dense fabric, it’s perfect for objects like cushions, blankets, and other items for the home. I’d recommend this book to the adventurous beginner and crocheters who are looking for something new to try. -- Jen Best * The SEW Region Magazine - Book Threads *Table of ContentsThe basic techniques 6 PROJECTS Baby blanket 10 Baby’s room storage pockets 16 Cuddly bunny 22 Clutch bag 28 Plant holders 32 Large plant holder 40 Pouffe 46 Pretty pillows 52 Throw 58 Wall hanging 64 Pastel pillows 68 Mochila bag 74

Great projects with easy to follow instructions and charts to follow. Highly recommended as a beginner's book for this type of knitting. -- Jackie Lewis * Customer review *I am a seasoned knitter and have done Scandi patterns and similar, but only very limited experience with intarsia as I generally find it a bit confusing to work with several different threads. This book, however, makes it all very clear and easy to follow. It has a step by step guide to all the basics and gives great hints and tips. I also love it that the patterns are written in "full hand" as I originally learned to knit in Germany and - although I CAN do it - still find it somewhat difficult and tedious to follow patterns in English abbreviations. There is a nice collection of pattern charts included, anything from children's items to accessories and home decor. The patterns can be mixed and matched or used as a template for own patterns. All in all it is a very enjoyable and inspiring book and I am already halfway through my first project! -- Petra Beck * Customer review *I have been knitting for a while but am fairly new to intarsia. This book gives a good explanation of how to do it correctly with good tips (before I never really knew what to do with the yarn at the back when I picked up another colour as part of the pattern). I particularly love the flamingo jumper and the fox cushion cover in this book but intend to use the alphabet to make a baby blanket. I would recommend this book to beginners as well as more experienced knitters. -- Vicky Vincent * Customer review *This book is very easy to follow if this is your first time at Intarsia Knitting. Great projects with easy to follow instructions and charts to follow. Highly recommended as a beginner's book for this type of knitting. -- Linda Truswell * Customer review *Brilliant book, great for beginners, loved all the projects and can’t wait to start on one. -- Kitt Harris * Customer review *A very straightforward book with lots of illustration, ideas, and helpful information and tips. Some interesting patterns and lots to inspire a beginner at intarsia to have a go. I can see that some of the techniques used in the book would be transferable to my knitting machine too, although the book has no claim to be for machine knitters. The scarf is at the top of my list and the flamingos are a must too! -- Jenny Pritchard * Customer review *I am an experienced knitter and have knitted intarsia garments over the years - but have done so on instinct - with no guidance. This book is invaluable - covering any questions which may arise in a clear and concise way. The patterns are lovely and the charts clear and easy to understand. My only complaint is that this book wasn't published years ago! -- Diana Allen * Customer review *A great introduction to intarsia knitting. Simple step-by-step instructions and some lovely patterns.
