Combre Sonatine No 2 Opus 10
Book SynopsisMaurice Journeau's catalogue of works comprises 75 works (82 with the works without an opus number). Among them, one may find numerous pieces for piano (piano solo, piano duet). His four sonatinas for piano were considered by him as typical of his music style, even if each one is very different from the three others.Maurice Journeau composed four sonatinas for piano, his own instrument, probably because this way of writing seemed attractive to him. The Deuxieme Sonatine (2nd Sonatina) Op.10 was written in Biarritz on April 1925. The work, full of a brotherly tenderness, was dedicated by the composer to his younger sister. So it is a graceful, gentle piano piece endowed with a very lively atmosphere.CONTENTS: Allegretto piacevole (3'00); Andante (3'30); Scherzo (5'00)

London College of Music London College of Music Piano Anthology Grades 5
Book SynopsisThese Piano Anthologies contain pieces which have been carefully selected from previous piano exam lists dating from 1988 to 2006. All of the pieces in these volumes have proved popular with piano students, teachers and listeners, and we are pleased to be able to make them available again in these new collections. Pieces from these anthologies may be chosen as List B and C pieces, allowing students to increase their choice of repertoire beyond the already extensive selection offered in the LCM piano repertoire lists for grade, recital grade and leisure play options. It is hoped that these anthologies will also be of interest to piano students generally. The range of styles broadly covers the late 18th century to the present. Some familiar pieces are present in these volumes, but they include pieces additionally from composers who have had a distinguished career in the role of teacher or student at LCM. Amongst the former are William Lloyd Webber and Martyn Williams, and amongst the latter are Nicholas Grace and John Guilfoyle, who now have eminent academic and professional musical careers.

Oxford University Press Pianoworks Book 1 CD A Tutor for the Older
Book SynopsisWritten especially for the older beginner, Pianoworks 1 explains all you need to know to get you started on the piano. It focuses on the traditional concept of learning to play from music but also includes hints on improvisation and playing by ear. At every stage there is an appealing and accessible range of pieces to play, from classical to modern in style, including a number of new pieces by the authors. New ideas are introduced at a steady pace, and examples and exercises reinforce learning and build confidence. There are useful notes on how to approach each piece, and the companion website contains recordings of all the pieces, accompaniments to play along with, demonstrations, and additional exercises. Pianoworks 1 can be used with a teacher or as a stand-alone resource.Trade ReviewPianoworks is popular with students due to its clear, detailed explanation, logical progression, great (and grown-up) music choices, and excellent supplementary books . . . Pianoworks offers a fast, no-nonsense approach to piano playing, with an emphasis on independent learning and solid notation reading . . . The quality of the music included in the Pianoworks series is undoubtedly one of the highlights that sets it apart from the alternatives. Alan Bullard is well-known as one of our top educational composers and arrangers; the calibre of his writing is fully on display here, while the contributions of Janet Bullard stand shoulder-to-shoulder in terms of their equally impressive quality . . . My adult students regularly comment on how much they enjoy playing these outstanding arrangements and pieces, which is of course SO important! * pianodao.com, January 2019 *. . . a fine package designed to stimulate and train beginners from the age of about 13 upwards. It incorporates all sorts of music and is presented in an attractive, unpatronising and adult manner. The Bullards have exemplary credentials and I admire the way they have gone about this difficult task. * John York, Piano Sept 2007 *Many, many thanks and congratulations on a superb publication - I`m thrilled to bits with it. * A piano teacher *I have been looking for a good tutor for some time. This fits the bill and is excellent. I have been using a variety of adult books and none have been satisfactory. * A piano teacher *Book 2 is in preparation and will certainly bring the student to an even higher level of performance if the present collection's interesting and challenging content is maintained. * Piano Professional, Summer 08 *Table of ContentsYour piano ; Starting to play ; Musical notation ; Hands together ; Beyond the five-finger position ; Scales, tones, and semitones ; More techniques and signs ; Compound time ; Index

Oxford University Press The Oxford Book of Ceremonial Music for Organ
Book SynopsisThe second Oxford Book of Ceremonial Music for Organ is a practical collection of repertoire covering a wide range of uses, from formal public events to more private occasions. The music is stylistically varied, encompassing both flamboyant extravagance and restrained solemnity. Selected with players of intermediate to advanced ability in mind, the collection includes established favourites and attractive new arrangements of well-known works, alongside newly commissioned pieces.Trade ReviewThe first thing to say about this handsome new collection (2019) is that the word 'ceremonial', is somewhat misleading . . . Francis Jackson's Prelude on East Acklam is lovely (despite the weird harmonies of the hymn itself) though hardly ceremonial . . . There are some new commissions: Gabriel lackson's dashing (in both senses of the word) Carillon for Louise and Nick, for instance, with its dizzying changes of time signature. And the distinguished Paisley organist George Mcphee's expressive Prelude on 'Bunessan' (Morning has broken). A useful and well-produced selection of pieces for a 'wide range of uses' indeed. * Francis O'Gorman, Organists' Review, December 2019 *This most welcome second collection, comprising no fewer than 25 individual pieces from a wide range of composers from J. S. Bach to Gabriel Jackson, offers items which are appropriate for almost any occasion where ceremonial organ music is required, presented in performing editions which will earn the gratitude of all organists. The presentation is of Oxford's customary immaculate manner, and amongst the well-known pieces . . . are such unusual (but enormously relevant and effective) pieces as Reger's Fugue on the British National Anthem and Sousa's Washington Post march. One surely cannot find a volume of comparable quality anywhere else â apart from in Book 1, that is. Most comprehensively recommended. * Robert Matthew-Walker, The Organ, Autumn 2019 *

I would recommend its use outside the exam preparation period rather than at the last minute, because the skills picked up will help in every aspect of piano playing, aural perception and general musical awareness. Book 1 is suitable for post-Grade 1 level and Book 2 is suitable for post-Grade 2 level. They are not ‘tutor books’ as such, but both anthologies provide an excellent, thorough and highly enjoyable technical and musical curriculum for their target levels. There are pieces and arrangements (Türk, Gurlitt, Rebikov, Schubert, Bartók, Bach, Mozart, and so on, as well as traditional music and pieces by authors themselves), daily workouts (exercises, sight-reading, repertoire, a vast collection of musical training activities, and facts about the musical time periods. It is like having Marshall (an expert teacher) and Blackwell (an award-winning composer and arranger) at your elbow as you teach. Fiona Lau, Music Teacher Magazine, November 2018 Outstanding. A very strong word with which to open a review, but Karen Marshall and David Blackwell really do go the extra mile to cover so much material in these books…..There is so much to help and encourage the students in these books, it’s almost a crime to not have them on your shelves!
