  • Doré Vergoldet Gilded: recontextualser

Kerber Verlag Doré Vergoldet Gilded: recontextualser

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisIs contemporary art’s recurring turn to a material with a rich tradition an attempt to free the precious metal from its historical heritage, from grandeur and pathos? Is the saying “all that glitters is not gold” thus put to a test by transferring or shifting the always sought-after, glittery material to other contexts? The exhibition Doré Vergoldet Gilded and accompanying catalogue bring together works of contemporary art that deal with gold as a material and colouring agent and thus reflect the notions of value and symbolic power connected with it. Artists: Antje Blumenstein, Olivia Breckemeyer, Ruth Campau, Marianne Engel, Luka Fineisen, Niklas Goldbach, Eckart Hahn, David Krippendorff, Claudia Kugler, Alicja Kwade, Andréas Lang, Via Lewandowsky, Michael Müller, Sebastian Neeb, Andrea Pichl, Johanna Reich, Julian Röder, Stéphanie Saadé, Michael Sailstorfer, Karin Sander, Karina Spechter, Henrik Strömberg, Philip Topolovac, Panos Tsagaris, Frauke Wilken, Andrea Winkler, Clemens Wolf, He Xiangyu. Text in English, German and French.

  • Frank Stella: Alexej-von-Jawlensky-Preis 2022

Kerber Verlag Frank Stella: Alexej-von-Jawlensky-Preis 2022

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisFrank Stella (*1936) situates his oeuvre not only in the present. Abstraction or representation, simulacrum, sign, and ornament, as well as questions of surface and space have fascinated him anew time and again. The publication presents the following phases in his oeuvre in the context of the Museum Wiesbaden’s collection: the early works, the stripe paintings attributed to minimalism, the departure into space, and thus from the picture to the relief, as well as the use of ornament and arabesque. In interplay with current sculptures by the artist, not only the rigorousness of his oeuvre but also the relevance of his work until today is thus shown. Text in English and German.

  • Helmut Middendorf: Berlin SO 36 Revisited

Kerber Verlag Helmut Middendorf: Berlin SO 36 Revisited

    3 in stock

Book SynopsisHelmut Middendorf is one of Germany’s most renowned painters. As a member of the neo-expressionists, the Neue Wilden, he left a lasting impression on the artistic landscape of the 1980s. In 2022, Middendorf showed an exhibition entitled Berlin SO 36 Revisited at the Museum Schloss Derneburg, Hall Art Foundation. SO 36 was the name of an area of Kreuzberg, but also of the famous music venue that inspired many of the artist’s works. Middendorf lived and worked in Berlin Kreuzberg’s SO 36 district throughout the 1970s and 80s. As well as the documentation accompanying the exhibition at the Museum Schloss Derneburg, this publication presents a wide selection of paintings and works on paper dating from that era, most of which are being republished here for the first time in many years. A large number of hitherto unseen photographs from the artist’s private archive also feature. Text in English and German.

  • Henning Bertram: Work Phases 1979–2022

Kerber Verlag Henning Bertram: Work Phases 1979–2022

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisThis publication spans more than 40 years of artistic work by the painter Henning Bertram (b. 1962). Many in the Rhineland know him through his large-scale charcoal drawings of seemingly archaic fragments of architecture. This book provides for the first-time insight into Bertram’s early work and the spectrum of his artistic career— an unremittingly explorative path, switching between the abstract and the figurative, culminating in a surprising corporeality evident in his current work. Text in English and German.

Book SynopsisTanz auf der Klinge (Dance on a Knife’s Edge) is the first monograph by the artist Willehad Eilers aka Wayne Horse (b. 1981). This publication features works created between 2018 and 2023, presenting the many facets that make up the artist’s universe - from blind drawing to graffiti and monumental oil paintings. Eiler’s visual world, made up of grotesquely lewd scenes, reveals a generous portion of humour while exploring the darkest depths of society. • Hans Uhlmann

    Kerber Verlag Hans Uhlmann

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisThe metal sculptures and drawings of Hans Uhlmann (1900 1975) shaped the image of German postwar modernism. Arrested by the National Socialists in 1933, Uhlmann sketched filigree wire heads during his incarceration. He went on to realise these pieces following his release. In the 1950s, his figurative forms developed further into abstract compositions. With around 80 works, the exhibition at the Berlinische Galerie traces Uhlmann's creative periods from the 1930s to the 1970s and explores not only his drawings and sculptures but also his role within the West Berlin art scene. This is the first comprehensive retrospective of his work in more than 50 years.Text in English and German.

  • Mie Olise Kjærgaard Ferocious Expeditions

Kerber Verlag Mie Olise Kjærgaard Ferocious Expeditions

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisMie Olise Kjærgaard (b. 1974) conquers an artistic domain closely linked to the idea of the genius male painter: expressive, figurative, large-scale paintings. Composed of turbulent brushstrokes, her works on their huge canvases exude a wildness and power. Kjærgaard is utterly convincing in her adoption of the genre and translates the expressive force of gestural painting into a world of female experience. Her works depict active women in sportswear and flip-flops, their hair standing wildly on end. They ride mythical creatures, hang from the railings of ships, play a round of tennis, or hurtle through the neighbourhood on skateboards. Ferocious Expeditions brings together her works from recent years, accompanied by texts that give insight into the work of this Danish painter.

  • Nina Annabelle Markl Scapes

Kerber Verlag Nina Annabelle Markl Scapes

    2 in stock

Book SynopsisIn her works, Nina Annabelle Märkl (b. 1979) develops permeable viewing spaces that lie at the interface between drawing, object, and installation. The viewers move through landscape-like settings in modular spatial installations, entering into various dialogues with the works. In addition, through the shift in perspective, they can experience the possibility of seeing themselves in their own observations and can question the structures of their perception. The monograph Scapes unites various strands of Nina Annabelle Märkl's work in the diversity of their links and leaps between drawing and spatiality, which follow on from one another in the diversity of manifestation or interpenetrate one another in individual arrangements.Texts by Barbara Fischer, Cornelia Oßwald-Hoffmann, Nina Annabelle Märkl, Florian Matzner, Nadine Seligmann.Text in English and German.

  • Iris Musolf

    Kerber Christof Verlag Iris Musolf

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisIn the sculptural works of Iris Musolf (b. 1980), the smooth surfaces of a commonplace product aesthetic meet the strange and the unspeakable that is often concealed beneath. Her artistic reconfiguration of materiality and form creates visual ambiguities that highlight the true fragility of our society. Musolf's first monograph 39th of May brings together objects and sculptures that seem like the symbolic props of a vacuous society obsessed with pleasure. In these works, sexuality and violence appear as infantilised consumer goods in the guise of dolphin-shaped vibrators and inflatable Kalashnikovs. Freedom and coercion are interwoven in a commercially driven context, and human emotions primarily emerge in the form of great confusion.Text in English and German.
