Instituto Monsa de Ediciones Sweet & Bizarre
Book SynopsisSweet & Bizarre is a way of describing works of art from the Lowbrow movement, otherwise known as Pop Surrealism. The Lowbrow movement arose in 1979, led by artist Robert Williams after various art analysts struggled with categorizing his works. Many artists are now associated with this concept, including Mark Ryden, Nicoletta Ceccoli, Gary Baseman, Takashi Murakami, Xue Wang, Sara Sanz, and others. In the following pages you will find fantastic works that will make you feel something sweet and bizarre at the same time, artists like Kazuhiro Hori, Xue Wang, Nicoletta Ceccoli, Marion Peck, Brandi Milne, and Dilka Bear. Each artist tells us about their trajectory and their more personal styles.

Quirk Books Jane Austen Cover to Cover: 200 Years of Classic
Book SynopsisIn the short forty-two years of her life, Jane Austen wrote six novels that would endure long after her death in 1817. The texts are true classics, unchanged and yet still immensely popular some 200 years later, but the covers have changed with the times-from the elegant inscriptions of the famous Peacock cover, to pulpy sixties pop art, to graphic novels, Twilight-inspired copycat covers, and mystifyingly bad digital editions. With over 200 images of covers spanning as many years of Austen books, this fascinating, funny, and art-filled book is a must for Janeites, design geeks, and book lovers of every stripe.Trade Review“Fans of Emma and Persuasion may OD on the eye candy contained in Margaret C. Sullivan's Jane Austen Cover to Cover. A fascinating survey of the visual treatments of Austen's work...this irresistible album provides an intriguing overview...”—BookPage

Schiffer Publishing Ltd VHS Video Cover Art
Book SynopsisContains over 240 full-scale, complete video sleeves in the genres of action, comedy, horror, kids, sci-fi, and thriller films.Trade Review"We all know the power of good sleeve art. Very often its the first thing that tells you whether or not a film is worth giving a look; sometimes, it turns out to be considerably better than the film itself. But in these days of flagrant, unimaginative photoshopping, its a part of the film fan experience that has long been threatening to die out. Happily, many up-and-coming indie filmmakers, and a select few DVD/Blu-Ray labels notably the likes of Arrow and Scream Factory have been doing their bit to keep the spirit of the video shop alive with their original hand-painted cover art, and in that field one particular name always stands out: Tom Hodge, AKA The Dude Designs, whose lurid, expertly rendered visions have helped sell many a recent indie horror hit: Hobo With A Shotgun, Dear God No, Fathers Day, Almost Human, Wolfcop the list goes on. (And, in-keeping with the days of old, I would say in quite a few instances his cover art is indubitably better than the film its selling.) What better man to serve as our guide on a look back through the era that inspired his work? Thats just what were promised in VHS: Video Cover Art, the upcoming hardcover art book from Schiffer Publishing. Due to hit shelves in May, the fine folks at Schiffer have given us a sneak peek at the book including, as you might have gathered, the images you see in this article..." Ben Bussey, brutalashell.com Feb 2015 -"This is a weighty tome, but is a great conversation starter that should be left on your coffee table. Ah, the good old days........." - Starburst magazine, June 2015The Guardian carried a full-page feature about this title, headlined 'Can I get a rewind! The lost art of the VHS cover'. "They were loud and brash and full of ripped men, busty women and guns. But was there more to video covers? Chris Campion celebrates the heroes and villains of this lost art.""From the gaudy to the tawdry, the overblown to the downright tacky, this book has it all... Move geeks over 30 will flip for this." - ImagineFX Sept 2015"Last year we reviewed the first volume of this series here, and what glorious things we saw in those pages. Author Matthew Chojnacki has come back again with a second helping of varied artists interpretations of some very well know, and a few lesser known films. We could pretty much cut and paste the review from last time here. Its all great stuff. The pictures do the talking, a few words direct you to the artists and their websites (although over time these may change as we discovered when looking up artists from the first volume but then thats where google search comes in handy!). Youll be hard pressed to find another series that is this much fun to look at." - Filmwerk.co.uk Feb 2016

50 Watts 50 Watts Zine n.1
Book SynopsisThis is the first in a new series of 50 Watts zines about books and illustration. I think the 60s and 70s were probably one the most creatively interesting periods for everyone. Art, music, film all pushing the envelope. New York City was affordable and fun, fertile in its influences. Book cover art, book jacket art was fun concept art, a bit more free than other illustration work. --Manny SchongutEmanuel Schongut studied art under Richard Lindner at Pratt Institute, graduating in 1960 with an MFA. He worked in watercolor, pencil, and pen and ink, and was represented by Push Pin Studios in the 1970s. In addition to his book cover designs, he worked in editorial and advertising illustration and illustrated over twenty children's books. His archive is now held by the Norman Rockwell Museum. Manny and I worked on this zine in the fall of 2022, before he passed away in December. His covers are reproduced here with the blessing of Rick Sacks, Manny's nephew. Dedicated to the memory of Emanuel (Manny) Schongut (1936-2022).

JBE Out Side
Book SynopsisOut Side embraces the limitations of new AI tools as constraints for creation. Faces, hands, landscapes appear in their raw hallucinated state. These often flawed or surreal depictions express the underlying ambiguity of the story: in what dimension do the characters live? Why do laws of space and time seem to bend around them? Are these aporias unique to this story or are they an essential quality of all fiction, all storytelling? As AI systems evolve, we can expect more fine-grained artistic control of generated images and text. Out Side captures a pivotal moment for culture, story, and image at the moment of AI's birth.

Edition Taube Trickles Oozes
Book SynopsisAnna McCarthy's artist book is a collection of her popular pencil drawings of amorphous figures. Sentient figures trickle and ooze their way through different states of equilibrium; some self-contained fountains, clouds, or gusts of wind, whilst others have formed groups and seem to be planning something, communicating in fields of pylons and mountain landscapes. They are endearing with their big eyes and friendly doughy, cloud-like appearance, carrying sandwich lunchboxes, melting over and spilling into structures, morphing, and possibly disrupting the geometry of lines in pylons. Charming harbingers of chaos.

teNeues Publishing UK Ltd A Dog's Life
Book SynopsisGemma Correll's whimsical illustrations capture all Fido's moods from perky scamp to loyal, obedient protector. Although this book does present a vast array of canine shenanigans for our amusement, be forewarned — you'll also get some startling insights into what your dog is really thinking about you (and, it may not always be complimentary — not that you will really mind). You see, dogs have insinuated themselves into our lives as no other creatures could. What's more, they know they'll always have a place in our hearts. Why else do we lavish them with yummy treats and belly scratches? There's something about a wagging tail and a soulful stare that's just too hard to resist. Text in English, German and French.

Nieves The Hot Seat

His work has been featured/collected in many different places in print, online, and in the physical world including places like Printed Matter, The New York Public Library, and the MoMA Library.

Nieves Toilet Paintings
Book SynopsisQuintessa Matrangra views the subject of her toilet paintings in two ways: first, as a symbol of contemplation or critique, and second, as an extension of the human anatomy. In her words, The toilet functions as an inbetween place between our human selves and our houses, or our built surroundings. It''s something of a portal where our body blends into the world. Toilet Paintings collects Matrangra''s celebrated series, (first exhibited at Freddy in Harris, New York, in May 2017), in the debut publication of her paintings.Quintessa Matranga was born in 1989 in New York. Recent shows include Carlos / Ishikawa (London), Karma International (Los Angeles), and Queer Thoughts (New York). She lives and works in New York.
