New India Publishing Agency Practical Isotope Hydrology
Book SynopsisThe book effectively demonstrates, through practical case studies, the potential of isotope techniques in the development and management of water resources. It commences with a detailed description of the unique characteristics of isotopes and their utility as tracers in various stages of the hydrological cycle. The book encompasses the application of both environmental isotopes and injected tracers to both surface water and groundwater bodies, as well as their interrelationships. Given the significance of identifying groundwater recharge and recharge processes, the book places particular emphasis on this aspect of isotope application in water resources. Additionally, the book explores the role of isotopes in understanding groundwater contamination caused by natural pollutants such as inland salinity, arsenic, and nitrate, with relevant examples provided.

New India Publishing Agency Essentials of Hydrogeology
Book SynopsisHydrogeology is a field of national importance. The role of hydrogeologists in identifying water resources and developing management strategies for sustainable groundwater use is very important. Massive population explosion and concentration in cities has resulted in over exploitation of groundwater and scarcity. New problems like sea water intrusion and identification of suitable artificial recharge mechanisms to replenish the depleting water levels are increasingly been discussed by a broad spectrum of stakeholder. The book mainly attempts at integrating information on the entire range of the subject: Hydrogeology with stress on geological concepts. With the arrival of new techniques like GIS, Remote Sensing and GPS armed with the power of modern information technology, integrated groundwater studies have a lot of scope today. Hence this book attempts to introduce GIS modeling and works in that direction.Table of Contents01. Introduction to aquifers 02. Groundwater geology 03. Groundwater investigation 04. Water geochemistry quality of groundwater Quality of Water 05. Groundwater development Artificial Recharge 06. Wells design, construction and management 07. Springer Diel Vertical Migration of Zooplankton in Lakes and Oceans: causal explanations and adaptive significances
Book SynopsisWhatever theory may be advanced to explain diurnal migration, the underlying reactions involved must be demonstrated conc- sively in the laboratory before the explanation can be ?nally accepted George L. Clarke 1933 p. 434 In oceans and lakes, zooplankton often make diel vertical migrations (DVM), descending at dawn and coming up again in late afternoon and evening. The small animals cover distances of 10–40 m in lakes or even a few hundred metres in the open oceans. Although not as spectacular as migrations of birds or the massive movements of large mammals over the African savannas, the numbers involved are very large and the biomass exceed the bulk of the African herds. For example, in the Antarctic oceans swarms of “Krill” may cover kilometres across, with thousands of individuals per cubic metre. These Euphausiids are food for whales, the most bulky animals on earth. Zooplankton are key species in the pelagic food web, intermediary between algae and ?sh, and thus essential for the functioning of the pelagic community. Prey for many, they have evolved diverse strategies of survival and DVM is the most imp- tant one. Most ?sh are visually hunting predators and need a high light intensity to detect the often transparent animals. By moving down, the well-lit surface layers are avoided but they have to come up again at night to feed on algae.Table of ContentsWindows: An Introduction.- Swimming in a Strange Biotope.- Light-Induced, Reactive Swimming.- A Decision-Making Mechanism.- Mechanistic Models.- Light and Temperature.- Optical Orientations.- Considerations Before Going into the Field.- Diel Vertical Migration in Lakes.- Migrations in the Marine Environment.- The Confrontation of Experimental and Field Studies.- From the Individual to the Population and Beyond.- Recapitulations and Considerations.

Springer Verlag, Singapore Water Security Under Climate Change
Book SynopsisThis book highlights the likely impacts of climate change in terms of global and national water securities, how different countries are attempting to address these complex problems and to what extent they are likely to succeed. A major global concern at present, especially after the social and economic havoc that has been caused by COVID-19 in only one year, is how we can return to earlier levels of economic development patterns and then further improve the process so that sustainable development goals are reached to the extent possible by 2030, in both developed and developing countries. Mankind is now facing two existential problems over the next several decades. These are climate change and whether the world will have access to enough water to meet all its food, energy, environment and health needs. Much of expected climate change impacts can be seen through the lens of extreme hydrological events, like droughts, floods and other extreme hydrometeorological events.Chapter 7 is available open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License via link.springer.com.Chapter 12 is available open access under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License via link.springer.com.Table of ContentsForeword 1, by First Minister of Scotland, UK. Springer Verlag, Singapore Advanced Oxidation Processes in Dye-Containing
Book SynopsisAmong various industries releasing wastewater into the environment, printing, dyeing and textile industries are of great importance as they frequently contain high amounts of colorful compounds having high chemical and biological oxygen demands. Health related effects of colorants are extensively reported; which necessitates the seriousness of dye removal from water and wastewater. The utilization of advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) in dye degradation has gained considerable attention recently due to the release of high energetic radicals as oxidants that are capable of removing dye compounds. This Volume 1 presents versatile applications of AOPs in dye removal. Accordingly, processes such as Ozone-based AOPs, UV irradiation, catalytic AOPs, etc are discussed with the aim of dye removal under different operational parameters. The role of different nanoparticles is also investigated. By presenting the fundamentals of AOPs as well as recent advances, this book is useful for environmental engineers and chemists who are concerned with wastewater pollution and treatment.
