Stephen F. Austin State University Press Aging Comes Without a Manual
Book SynopsisThe aging process is a sneaky son-of-a-gun. It begins by lurking around the edges of one’s life and occasionally darting into your person to take a bite out of your well-being. It then zips back into the shadows and waits for the next opportunity to reappear and take another bite out of your youth, your appearance, your confidence, and/or your already fragile self-concept. You’d like to grab it and strangle it, but it’s always out of sight and out of reach. Each bite it takes out of one’s existence leaves the victim a little less capable of ignoring the damage done by the attacks and a little less able to ignore their cumulative effects. Fighting against aging is a losing battle, but we do have a good shot at enjoying the many good parts of it. I was Born on Third Base is a humorous look at aging and the notion that “seventy is the new fifty.”

Page Street Publishing Co. I'm Sorry -Your Husband: Honest, Hilarious
Book SynopsisClint Edwards’s parenting tips include: 1. You don’t have to give your kid a bath all the time, just wipe them down from time to time. 2. If you find a long lost sippy cup, don’t open it. Just throw it away, trust me. 3. Getting a sitter so you can go to the store alone is worth every damn penny. With stinging wit, laugh-out-loud humour and brutal honesty, Clint brings to light what every parent and spouse eventually learns but refuses to say out loud to each other. His essays include “All the Things I Never Should Have Said to My Pregnant Wife,” “Just Because I Get Up In the Night Doesn’t Mean I Deserve Praise” and “Contrary to My Original Assumption, You Can Have a Favourite Child.” His essays will have parents everywhere shaking their heads “yes.” Clint’s blog, No Idea What I am Doing, has over 144,000 Facebook likes, and he writes for huge outlets like Scary Mommy, Babble, the New York Times and has been featured on Good Morning America. Page Street Publishing Co. Silence is a Scary Sound: And Other Stories on
Book SynopsisWhile potty training his daughter, he reveals, “wiping a three-year-old's butt is never satisfying. It’s never rewarding. It just smells bad and makes you feel like a slave locked in some butt wiping servitude.” His relatable toddler stories leave parents and caregivers cackling, and remind us all that no one is the perfect parent. In fact, sometimes the only thing that gets Clint through the day is thinking about when his kids grow up... and all the ways he can finally exact his revenge. Like leaving a leaky sippy-cup full of milk to rot under the back seat of his daughters car, or waking up at 4 a.m. to incessantly ask his son for a cheese stick. With essays like Locking Doors Is Hilarious Until the Fire Department Arrives, Turns Out Poop Doesn’t Go Easily Down the Tub Drain, Let Them Watch Screens, and You’ll Never Pee Alone, Clint knows exactly what’s “terrible” about the twos.

American Bar Association The Emergency Sasquatch Ordinance
Book SynopsisYou'll find more than 200 unusual, bizarre, and absurd laws that seem too weird to be true, but are indeed true. The book begins with the laws of ancient Sumeria and Babylon, then moves on to the laws of the ancient Greeks and Romans, and also features some examples from medieval times. All the ancient laws discussed here are translations from languages other than English. As this book is for entertainment purposes, if you're looking for linguistic precision, you might want to adjust your monocle and head over to a more serious section of the bookstore, Señor Braniac. Most of the book is comprised of laws inflicted on the population of the United States. The book then concludes with a selection of modern(ish) laws from other countries, some of which have a legal system similar to that of the United States (the UK, Australia, New Zealand, etc.), some of which have a completely different tradition (Germany, China, Papua New Guinea), and some of which can barely be said to observe the rule of law" at all. Above all, all of the laws mentioned in this book are (or were) real. The author did research and everything, and has even provided citations in case you want to check his work.

Skyhorse Publishing The Mensch Handbook: How to Embrace Your Inner
Book SynopsisFor years after college, Max Gross was a schlubby ne’er-do-well sporting an unwieldy Jewfro. He fought off double chins and man boobs. When Gross saw the smash comedy Knocked Up, he realized his day might have arrived. All these years of being a world-class schlub would finally pay off. Thinking quickly, Gross wrote an article about the phenomenon and soon found true love. In this hilarious memoir-cum-guidebook, our curly-headed hero shares his story and offers suggestions on leaving home (the bedbugs and consequent breakup forced a move back to his parents’ loving arms), losing weight (but not too much), dressing well, playing poker to fulfill the typical schlub obsession with being good at sports, and much more. Naturally, the quest to find the right woman is of critical importance, and Gross expounds on this thoroughly. Readers will come away from the book enlightened, informed, and laughing hysterically.
