Book SynopsisIt just may be impossible to exhaust the creative potential of LEGO® bricks. With an active imagination as your guide, there are endless possibilities provided you follow the LEGO Company's official (and sensible) rules. This means no cutting or tampering with bricks, creating models that shoot unapproved projectiles, or using non-standard parts with any LEGO product. After all, those little precision-molded ABS bricks can be dangerous on the wrong hands! Well, toss those rules out the window. Forbidden LEGO introduces you to the type of free-style building that LEGO's master builders do for fun in the back room. Using LEGO bricks in combination with common household materials (from rubber bands and glue to plastic spoons and ping-pong balls) along with some very unorthodox building techniques, you'll learn to create working models that LEGO would never endorse. Try your hand at a toy gun that shoots LEGO plates, a candy catapult, a high voltage LEGO vehicle, a continuous-fire ping-pTrade Review"LEGOs– they're not just for good kids anymore."—FOX News"Forbidden LEGO is full of dangerous projects which break the LEGO house rules...In fact, breaking rules and folding non-lego objects into the mix are so important that each project has a "LEGO Rules Broken" list. 1 in stock

Book SynopsisAre scrap piles wreaking havoc in your sewing space? Not sure what to do with all those tiny bits of gorgeous prints you hate to part with? Modern quilters Amanda and Cheryl share a passion for scraps-they're here to help you get creative and sew new life into every last little piece. Your Sunday mornings just got a whole lot cozier! Trade ReviewFeb 12 Sunday Morning Quilts shows you how to use every last scrap of treasured fabric in your collection. In sixteen new and delightful projects, the book champions the original ethos behind patchwork - make do and mend. However, the quilts in the book are decidedly modern in design, construction, fabric choice and colour. The quilts are mostly made from what would normally be seen as leftovers, i.e. any piece of fabric less than a 1/4 yard in size. Careful attention is paid to the need to sort your scraps before embarking on a scrappy quilt: in fact, preparation and quilting/binding basics take up almost half the book before the projects begin. The projects are then organized so that you can take advantage of your scraps from the largest pieces to the smallest. This is to encourage you to work through your oddments in a systematic manner and eventually end up with no scraps at all, and then you have the perfect excuse to buy lots more gorgeous fabric. The first project is a lovely idea to get your preparation started - quilted storage boxes in rainbow colours to organize all your scraps! The quilts are bold, bright and clean, and the co-authors actively encourage you to be creative and to come up with your own designs. * Popular Patchwork *June 12 elebrate great fabric by using every scrap-this is the premise behind Sunday Morning Quilts. Modern quilters Amanda Jean Nyberg and Cheryl Arkison share a passion for scraps. From sorting to piecing to finishing, this book will help you turn your treasured leftovers into a modern quilt with your own Sunday-morning style. * Stitch *

Includes drawing exercises and tips for transferring designs from paper to fabric.Trade ReviewI have been getting into my quilting more and more lately which means I am always on the lookout for quilting books! I was recently sent a copy of 'Doodle Quilting' and woweee is this book fab! I was hooked from the intro as Cheryl encourages you to start by tracing over the designs in the book (by placing vinyl over the pages and using dry-erase markers), before gradually moving your hand farther away from the tip of the pen and drawing with your whole arm rather than with your wrist, and then using tape to secure 2 pens together (in a cross shape) to get used to moving both hands together...this is to practise the movement which will more closely resemble that of the movement you will use when free motion quilting on your machine! Cheryl then presents over 120 continuous line free motion quilting designs (which I LOVE as I hate starting/stopping/tying in loose threads) and combinations! This really is an amazing free motion quilting book and one I really recommend for anyone interested in free motion quilting no matter what your experience/skill level! -- Naomi Clarke * @naomialicec *

Book SynopsisConfidently pair fabric prints, using three no-fail strategies: controlled colorway, distinct blocks, or scrap crazies! Whatever your approach, you’ll love stripping along with the popular pattern and fabric designer behind GE Designs. Gudrun Erla’s quick yet impressive patterns only look complicated. Complete with helpful charts and illustrations, everything from fabric selection to block construction is made clear and simple, even for beginners. Trade ReviewStrip with precision. 12 designs in multiple sizes. Easy to follow, clear instructions. Styles to suit everyone. If you have a collection of strip rolls in your workroom, here is how to store, design and make strip quilts. Each project has at a glance materials, construction, fabulous photos and beautiful designs. I love Stash books, they know just what quilters want - colour, design and ease of use. It isn't often that I can say I like every design in a book - but this one is a classic keeper - I love them all. This is an inspired book that is well designed and perfect for stitching the quilt you'll love. * Karen Platt- yarnsandfabrics.co.uk *I’m not a patchworker but I love this book! It makes me think that I could be one! The instructions are fantastic, so clear, with lots of pictures and diagrams, and tables to show you exactly how many blocks and how much fabric you need for each type of quilt. So, I decided to have a go at the Ripple quilt. A small one. I chose this one because it was all straight lines and no diagonals so I thought I’d have a chance of getting it right! It starts off with an insight into how to collect, prepare and store your strips, which would be really helpful for someone with a larger stash, and suggests steam ironing them before use to reduce the chance of shrinkage. The book then talks about each quilt design and gives some ideas for how to select fabrics to make them look effective. It also has some pages of general instructions, including some great pictures on how to bind a quilt using straight-grain binding. Each section of the book is a complete project. This makes it easy to concentrate and not get lost! It also tells you the size of your finished block, which in the “Ripple Effect” version is 12ins x 16ins. I knew I didn’t need a full size quilt, so wondered whether I should just make a couple of blocks and turn them into cushions or bags … Or whether to make a long thin one to go across the end of the bed … which would also mean it would fit in the sewing machine! Decisions! I had an absolutely awesome fun time making this and I LOVE my new cushion! I even managed to put in a zip! Book SynopsisIf you want to make gorgeous, quality bags with the professional edge that really makes the difference between home-made and handmade—open The Better Bag Maker by Nicole Mallalieu. In this how-to book accomplished bag maker, Nicole Mallalieu, reveals her high-end techniques, shortcuts, and secrets for professional design and finishes. The 10 featured projects teach a range of expert skills from adjusting the proportion of the pattern to constructing pockets, straps, flaps, and bases.. By the end of this book, you’ll have a closetful of polished bags—and most likely sew better than you ever imagined you could.Trade ReviewBags are a popular project for sewists of all levels-they're a great way to showcase favorite fabrics, without all the fuss of garment fitting. The first third of Mallalieu's book focuses on step-by-step tutorials for techniques specific to sewing bags, such as choosing interfacing, preparing and attaching pockets (including zippered pockets), and attaching hardware such as snaps, clasps, purse feet, and strap rings. These lessons are followed by a basic tote pattern with detailed instructions, placing the techniques within the context of an actual bag pattern and allowing novices to build confidence. The other ten designs feature a variety of styles, from chic overnight bags to a stylish satchel to a convertible backpack-tote, and all of the patterns expand on the skills and methods covered at the beginning of the book. Pattern sheets are included. VERDICT While these plans are useful, the technique tutorials are the highlight here-they contain information that can be applied to many bag patterns, not just the ones in this collection. Sewists of every ability level will appreciate having a wealth of bag-making information in a single volume. Library Journal, March 2014 If you are going to purchase just one book on making bags, this should be it. It is comprehensive for all techniques required to make spectacular bags from zippers, handles, pockets, lining and more. This should also be a "must have" for any teacher that facilitates classes on making bags or totes. No doubt about it, with this book you'll definitely be a Better Bag Maker! sewcalgal.com, 4/13/14 Nicole is a bag-making expert and this book is perfect for the person who: a) likes bags. b) wants to make bags. c) wants to make bags that won't fall apart after a few uses. Is this you? Because it's definitely us. What's fun about The Better Bag Maker is that each bag tutorial in the book is a slightly-tweaked version of the same pattern. They start simple (hi, beginners) and end with fairly advanced techniques (we're looking at you, people-who-can-confidently-sew-zippers). Tools and materials are pretty basic (a functional sewing machine, scissors, fabric, interfacing), but Nicole definitely explains the what and how of all the extra goodies that will take your bag making to the next level. You'll learn how to use interfacing to reinforce your projects, how to add hardware, and why straps are important. Creative Bug, 6/16/14 Learn professional techniques, shortcuts, and secrets for making couture bags with this new book, The Better Bag Maker: An Illustrated Handbook of Handbag Design by Nicole Mallalieu. 10 skill-building projects, fully explained with detailed tutorials and illustrations, make this book a source of inspiration and instruction. FabShop News, June 2014 This book by Melbourne-based designer Nicole Mallalieu is a must have if you want to learn to make your own bags. Apart from the 10 fresh and modern projects-ranging from a simple tote bag to a denim weekender with zippered and twist-lock closures-it contains chapters about tools and materials (with a useful interfacing guide) and basic bag-making techniques, such as pockets, straps, bag bases and closures. The instructions are clear with lots of photos and illustrations. Down Under Quilts Magazine, June 2014 Nicole is an internationally recognized handbag designer, and here she shares with you her professional techniques shortcuts and secrets for making couture bags. Set apart a homemade bag from a handmade bag! The projects in this book are graded and ordered by degree of difficulty and will teach you a range of expert skills from adjusting the proportion of the pattern to constructing pockets, straps, flaps and bases. Quilter's Digest, June 2014 If you have an addiction to bags, like me, its a great plan to start creating your own. Learn how to make gorgeous, sturdy, purses and tote bags that you'll be proud to wear around town. These quality patterns make quality bags that are ideal for a wide variety of occasions and events. The Better Bag Maker by Nicole Mallalieu is the only book that you will need to learn how to make bags. This purse sewing pattern book is a comprehensive guide full of technique, tips, tricks, and simple-to-read patterns. AllFreeHolidayCrafts.com, June 23, 2014 I have been a fan and customer of Nicole Mallalieu's for several years. This book is like having her do a private class! The instructions are very clear and detailed and fun. The lesson plan is progressive - building each bag on previous lessons and the basics section. You won't be disappointed. I am an experienced bag maker, yet this book is full of great new tips. Everything is so clearly illustrated with drawings and photos. It is a terrific book for both those new to sewing, and those who have been sewing for decades. Highly recommended. Very pleased with the purchase, and a bargain, as the book has a full complement of patterns. Most handbag instruction books are those that are just bags, nothing special. This book shows quality well-made bags with very good instructions. I have been wanting to up my game with my bag making and this book will show me how. Chock full of techniques that will make my bags look like they were store bought, not handmade. Been studying and will get to work on a project soon. Can't wait. 8/11/14Table of ContentsIntroduction [chapter title]
