The New LaTrade Review"The New Landscape of Mobile Learning helps educators, designers, and researchers to understand the changes in pedagogy and classroom practices needed to impact anytime, anywhere education." --Professor Zane L. • Taylor & Francis Ethnographic Methods

    15 in stock

Book SynopsisThis new edition of Karen OâReillyâs popular Ethnographic Methods provides a comprehensive and accessible introduction to the technical, practical and philosophical issues that arise when employing traditional and innovative research methods in relation to human agents. Using a wide range of case studies and source material to illustrate the dilemmas and resolutions that an ethnographic researcher may encounter, this textbook guides the reader from the initial design and planning stages through to the analysis and writing-up. It explores the historical and philosophical foundations of ethnographic research and goes on to cover a range of relevant topics such as participant observation, qualitative interviews, (focus) group interviews and visual data collection and analysis.Having been substantially revised and updated, the second edition includes new discussions of emerging practices such as reflexive ethnography and autoethnographic accounts, as well as an entire chapter dedicated to new directions in the field â including virtual, mobile, multi-sited and global ethnography. Trade Review'There are people who think there is no need to teach Ethnographic methods to students, because they think they are an innate tool of any ethnographers’ research equipment. Karen O'Reilly, however, beautifully demonstrates in this book how much can be gained from teaching them. Had I read O'Reilly's book when I did some amateur research on a group of Spanish traditional dancers once, I would certainly have done a better job.''The book is a clear and plainly written introduction to...ethnographic methods and gives useful directions so readers can get a deeper understanding of the subject through further reading and suggested practical experience, one of the best improvements of this second edition. The book has also been expanded and updated in response to the important developments of recent years.''In fact, the most arresting feature of the book is O’Reilly’s constant defence of the need of rigour, critical thought and an honest reflexion on the limitations and benefits of the research methods used, of being aware of the causes of bias....In the end, one of the strongest impressions the book leaves is that it is not the sophistication of the methods used that gives scientific status to ethnography, but reflexivity and being aware of what you are doing and why. Something, by the way, that is applicable to any scientific discipline and is not always properly stressed.'-Jordi Prats in Significance'There are people who think there is no need to teach Ethnographic methods to students, because they think they are an innate tool of any ethnographers’ research equipment. • Taylor & Francis Ltd Water Food and Poverty in River Basins

    15 in stock

Book SynopsisConventional wisdom says that the world is heading for a major water crisis. By 2050, global population will increase from 7 billion to a staggering 9.5 billion and the demands this will place on food and water systems will inevitably push river basins over the edge. The findings from this book present a different picture. While it is convenient to visualize an inevitable global water and food crisis in which increasing demands result in increasing poverty, food insecurity and conflict, the reality is far more nuanced and revolves around the politics of equitable and sustainable development of resources. The first part of this book provides detailed insight into conditions of water flows within nine river basins. In the second part, authors summarize and re-analyze the outcome of the nine basins, providing a coherent global picture of water, water productivity and development. They assess the impacts of variations of these attributes on development and approaches for poverty Table of ContentsAcknowledgements. Preface Asit K. Biswas Part 1: The Basin Focal Projects 1. Book SynopsisLeading Learning and Teaching in Higher Education brings together contemporary ideas on leadership, engagement and student learning into a practical solutions-based resource designed for those undertaking the challenge of leading a university-level teaching module, programme or suite of programmes, particularly through periods of transformation or change. It encourages both first time academic leaders and those who have held teaching leadership roles for some time to review and formalise their development in a systematic, simple way and acts as a framework for navigating the opportunities and challenges involved in inspiring shared purpose, strong commitment and innovation in higher education teaching. With a clear focus on the energy of leadership rather than the practice of management, and with a strong emphasis on collaborative engagement running throughout, this books offers: Insightful guidance which is not bound to subject-specific rTrade ReviewLeading Learning and Teaching in Higher Education has a lot to offer. Its engaging structure involves the reader in responding to the book’s challenges interactively and guides teaching practitioners in their journey to become academic leaders in education. It is refreshing in its attempt to develop first-time leaders by taking them through the practical steps of reflective practice by questioning action and stimulating self-evaluation and regulation.
