Editions Heimdal Pegasus Bridge Et La Batterie De Merville
Book SynopsisThe action of John Howard is without doubt on the most spectacular commando action of D-Day and WWII. Ten minutes after midnight on June 6th 1944, after an audacious glider landing, airborne troops of the 6th Airborne Division arrived at the bridge at Bénouville which became known as Pegasus Bridge and entered the annals of history. Six kilometres from there, towards the coast, at Melville was installed a German artillery battery which was in turn attacked by British paras a few hours later.

Editions Heimdal Memorial De La Bataille De France Volume 4: Du 17
Book SynopsisOn 17th June 1940, the French army, having followed the order given by Weygrand on June 13th, was in full retreat towards the South West with the Germans in pursuit and under orders from Hitler’s directive of 14th June to destroy the French Army. The new head of government. Marshal Petain, announced over the radio the sad pronouncement that the fighting must stop. The Germans aimed to exploit this command to encourage French troupes to surrender themselves. Despite this, numbers of French soldiers, named by Roger Bruge ‘The Fighters of June 18th, courageously continued fighting along the Loire, along the canal of the Marne to the Rhine, and the Maginot Line. Fighting also continued along the Alps in an attempt to win back from the Italians the territories ceded as part of the Armistice. This book recreates these last tragic eight days of the campaign.

Bohlau Verlag Waldfeucht
Book SynopsisWaldfeucht, the place to which no. 106 of the Rhenish town atlas is dedicated, was first mentioned in 1240 and, as a result of further development, was designated as a town in 1350. In addition to the two masonry gates, Waldfeucht was surrounded by water-filled ditches and hedged ramparts. From 1499 the place belonged to the Duchy of Jülich. In 1816 the Mairie Waldfeucht became the mayor''s office and in 1935 the Waldfeucht office was formed with the towns of Braunsrath, Haaren and Saeffelen. In 1972 the new municipality of Waldfeucht was founded. After Waldfeucht, a pilgrimage to St. Rochus. In this way, the place developed into a religious and administrative center that led to the settlement of craftsmen. A market and craftsmen are mentioned as early as 1277. Linen and velvet weaving was also carried out in Waldfeucht up until the 19th century. Due to the lack of a railway connection, industrialization could hardly gain a foothold. As a larger company, only one ice cream factory settled in 1970, which developed into the largest employer.

Mondadori Electa Atlas of Performing Culture
Book SynopsisThrough examining more than 120 organizations on a global scale, this work shows how almost every human expression involves performing culture. Atlas of Performing Culture is an illustrated voyage across five continents Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania, and the Americas involving the study of venues and events related to performance, the dynamic and unrepeatable mode of artistic activity capable of uniting the audience who becomes the protagonist with artists and works of art, architecture, and nature. The volume is organized around five thematic sections related to the physical spaces, venues, and typologies of events. The unique experience of performing art can involve an island museum in Japan, the Rio Carnival, a Brussels theatrical debut, a rave party in the British countryside, and a cultural center housed in a former funeral home in the outskirts of Paris. Alongside theaters, concert halls, and festivals, we also find museums, sculpture parks, and hybrid cultural centers that elude any attempt of cataloging. By breaking down the traditional frontiers between performance art, visual art, and performing arts, this volume takes the reader whether specialist, practitioner, academic, or simply art aficionado on a journey to some of the main cultural sites and performative experiences around the world. Each section offers a specific overview into leading cultural organizations, as well as a selection of similar international institutions.
