Chelsea Green Publishing Co The Power of Fastercise: Using the New Science of
Book SynopsisA revolutionary program of short burst, high-intensity exercise that uses your body's signals to curb hunger as it burns fat and builds muscle Over the last 26 years, thyroid pioneer Denis Wilson, MD, has trained thousands of physicians on the crucial relationships between the thyroid system, metabolism, and body temperature. He’s heard patients recount their inability to get fit using conventional approaches, and he’s understood their frustration. Based on the latest medical research, Dr. Wilson has created fastercise, a revolutionary practice that uses brief, strategically timed bursts of exercise to cancel hunger pangs, allowing people to more easily stick to a healthy eating plan and shift their bodies toward becoming leaner, faster, smarter, stronger, and healthier. Fastercise holds the promise of vindicating and liberating many of those who have struggled to improve their fitness, enabling them to transform their lives and reach their full potential. By combining simple analogies and clear explanations of the physiology of the body’s energy pathways and response to food and exercise, Dr. Wilson reveals how conventional approaches to dieting and weight management can actually fight against the body’s priorities and lead to frustration and poor results. Fastercise is a time-efficient, convenient, and natural approach powerfully signals the body to burn fat and build muscle synergistically, leading to surprisingly beneficial and quick results. The Power of Fastercise explains how fastercise can help you: • Burn fat without going hungry • Build your mitochondria to burn more fat and provide greater energy • Stimulate muscle growth in just a few minutes a day • Shift your body composition to less fat and more muscle • Boost your body temperature and metabolic rate • Look and feel younger • Increase mental focus, learning, and productivity • Decrease insulin resistance • Decrease inflammation and improve immune function • Improve respiratory fitness and athletic performance • Get great results with any healthy diet, including low-carb and high-carb In this groundbreaking book, Dr. Wilson lays out simple, practical strategies for combining fastercise with smart eating choices. Fastercise can provide excellent results for a wide range of people: seasoned athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and even those who dislike exercising or have physical limitations. Whatever your fitness goals are, fastercise can help you achieve them.Trade ReviewForeword Reviews— "The writing is persuasive and energetic, and the book’s claims are attractive; its concept is so simple that you can Fastercise while reading the book. Those looking for a low-impact path to fitness and fat loss will appreciate The Power of Fastercise." “I have long been an avid follower of Dr. Wilson, and his innovations in thyroid management have informed my own practice since the late 1990s. Dr. Wilson has always been a trailblazer in medicine, a systems thinker, and proponent of whole body-mind-centered therapies. In a world where we are overwhelmed, overfed, and undernourished on all levels of our being, Dr. Wilson has created a simple and convenient way to enhance metabolic flexibility at the cellular level. By retraining our signaling pathways with exercises and concepts that are both ancient and new and for the most part free and accessible by all, Dr. Wilson is once again creating an opportunity to reset what has become increasingly broken in our population, restoring us to optimal health.”—Nasha Winters, ND, FABNO, coauthor of The Metabolic Approach to Cancer“Dr. Denis Wilson led a renegade overhaul of the medical approach to treating thyroid imbalances, pioneering his effective clinical protocol known as Wilson’s temperature syndrome. Now this innovative thinker has done it again with his logical and surprisingly simple approach to losing body fat and building muscle. Wilson’s message in The Power of Fastercise is clear, his reasoning flawless, and his guidance is sure to help readers follow these easy guidelines to restoring or achieving a healthy weight.”—Dr. Jill Stansbury, author of Herbal Formularies for Health Professionals“The Power of Fastercise puts forth a new and interesting theory about how small amounts of small and purposefully distributed movements could matter tremendously to our well-being.”—Katy Bowman, best-selling author of Move Your DNA“Denis Wilson’s new book, The Power of Fastercise, is desperately needed. Conventional medicine has failed us. We are becoming fatter and sicker, and we need a new paradigm to improve our health. Exercise helps every person and can improve any condition. Dr. Wilson explains how anyone can implement his program to not only lose weight but to improve their immune function. I will recommend fastercise to my patients, and I highly recommend this book.”—David Brownstein, MD, medical director, Center for Holistic Medicine; national best-selling author of health books and Dr. Brownstein’s Natural Way to Health newsletter“Sometimes people come up with ideas of how we can get more done in less time with a quick and effective workout, but those ideas turn out to be just another regurgitation of programs and concepts that are already out there. The Power of Fastercise is very, very different. Dr. Denis Wilson has cracked a code on how we can signal our body to shed body fat and gain muscle with simple exercises that anyone can do. He shows us that how and when we exercise can make a dramatic difference. With fastercise you can lose weight without falling for fad diets or spending hours doing boring cardio.”—Allan Misner, author of The Wellness Roadmap; host, 40+ Fitness podcast“Denis Wilson has taught thousands of doctors how to crack the code on weight loss. He has the unique ability to take the complicated metabolism story and make it achievable. Fastercise is the solution that so many of us need today. Not a gimmick or a shortcut, fastercise is based on tried-and-true principles of healthy eating and physical activity sprinkled with extra energy to enjoy. The Power of Fastercise is the perfect book for both expert doctors and clients looking for more vibrancy and success in reaching their health goals.”—Mark Menolascino, MD, MS, ABIHM, ABAARM, IFMCP, medical director, Meno Clinic––Center for Functional Medicine; author of Heart Solution for Women“In this informative and valuable book, Dr. Denis Wilson explains the details of his fastercise framework of quick muscle activity, which provides the potential for a wide range of people to lose weight, build muscle, and boost metabolism.”—Dr. Kevin Spelman, CEO, Health, Education, and Research in Botanical Medicine“Denis Wilson is a deep thinker who pays tremendous attention to detail. In The Power of Fastercise, he opens our minds to a new understanding of how the individual elements of metabolism come together to play a symphony––and gives us the wisdom to have it play the tune that we like. If you are interested to understand your body better––or just want a simple but profound plan of action to reach your weight and health goals––then this book is a must-read.”—Gerrie Lindeque, MD, founder, Made to Be Well

Book SynopsisMen love shortcuts. If there's a way to accomplish a job quicker and more efficiently, they're all for it. That goes for work and working out. Now, new research shows that as little as 15 minutes of resistance training is just as effective in spiking a man's metabolism - his fat-burning furnace - as a workout lasting more than twice as long. All it takes is 15 minutes to achieve lifelong results - and men are more likely to stick to an exercise plan if it's chopped down to those 15 minutes. "The Men's Health Big Book of 15-Minute Workouts" contains fast-paced circuit training and interval workouts that boost calorie burn, build muscle, and fry belly fat in half the time of regular workouts. Readers can choose from at-home, body-weight-only workouts and total-body barbell programs to exercises that target major muscle groups - the chest, arms, legs, and back - and sport-specific workouts.Other highlights of this title include: a special section of 15-minute core workouts to build a rock-hard six-pack; an eating plan with delicious meals that take 15 minutes or less to prepare; workouts for the office or when you're travelling and can't make it to the gym; and, hundreds of tips from America's best trainers, nutritionists, and exercise scientists.

Berrett-Koehler Yoga Wisdom at Work: Finding Sanity Off the Mat
Book SynopsisAnyone who practices yoga understands that more is going on than stretching. Restful meditation brings clarity and energy for solutions at work. Gentle poses open up new sources of positive energy for tough problems. Most of all, peaceful, quiet instructions wash away stress and make each day full of health and vitality. But the asanasâposesâare just 1/8 of what yoga actually is. The physical practice from which millions derive so much benefit is rooted in a larger philosophy that has profound insights to offer. Maren and Jamie Showkeir believe passionately that we've barely scratched the surface of yoga's powers, especially as a way to make the workday and workplaces more enjoyable, productive and creative. In this very personal and instructive book, they reveal the remaining yoga principles that even some long-standing practitioners may not know about. They discuss how each âœlimbâ applies to the workplace and even suggest asanas that will help you deepen your understanding of these principles. These other limbs of yoga include: Yama--universal morality Niyama--personal observances Pranayama--breathing exercises Pratyahara--control of the senses Dharana--concentration Dhyaba--devotion and meditation Samadhi--union with the Divine

Book SynopsisManage everyday pain with this effective, trainer-approved program that uses resistance stretching to increase strength, release tension, rejuvenate tissues—and much more. This accessible guide gives step-by-step instructions for people who feel tight or older than they should, people with poor posture, athletes who want to boost their performance, and those who want something more than conventional stretching. This book provides you with many different stretches for the whole body including the hands and feet, as well as routines for specific goals such as improving posture, helping office workers stay healthy, stretching the back, and more. Even those with sedentary lives will see and feel a difference, with just 10-20 minutes of stretching yielding benefits that may last the whole day. Many of us are limited in our movements, hunched over, or tight. Ideally, we would move in a variety of ways throughout the day, keeping our bodies fresh and youthful. However, office jobs and sofas can lead to bodies that are imprisoned in a cage of tension, whose tissue is dehydrated and stuck together, with some areas that are very weak or tight. Normal stretching is not strong enough to break us out of that state. When we tense our bodies and move through that tension, we engage the fascia and recondition it into a more youthful state, restoring great posture, elasticity, and power.

Primal Nutrition, Inc The Paleo Primer: A Jump-Start Guide to Losing
Book SynopsisHow amazing would it be if eating great tasting food helped you to lose fat, boost your energy levels and made you look awesome? Thanks to The Paleo Primer , this is now possible and--more to the point--sustainable. The Paleo Primer is a great resource to help readers get quickly acquainted with the principles of Primal/paleo/evolutionary health living and eating. The first half of the book lays out the basics, with humorous and memorable cartoons to convey the key messages and lay the foundation for an effective daily routine. You'll learn how to get your mind right for lifestyle transformation, understand which foods to eliminate and why, follow step-by-step plan to get started, and even enjoy a list of "lifesaving books and websites." The recipes section contains over one hundred delicious, easy to prepare dishes that are organized into enticing categories like, "How to Pimp a Salad" and "Cheats of Champions". The Paleo Primer also offers preparations suitable for busy weekdays, and others for relaxing weekends. The Paleo Primer was written by Keris Marsden and Matt Whitmore, a British couple who operate a unique and extremely popular fitness and wellness facility called Fitter London. Their vast knowledge base, deft teamwork, and highly refined sense of humor shine through in these pages. It is a truly entertaining and deeply impactful read--a great gift idea to introduce a family member, friend, or loved one to Primal/paleo living. Q&A with Matt and Keris 1. There are tons of Paleo/health related books currently on the market. What was it about the subject you chose to write about in your book that made you feel so passionate about spreading the word and getting your book published? Our mission was simple, to get as many people as possible cooking their own food and more importantly enjoying it. We knew our book was no revolution in the world of Paleo eating but something we felt was missing was a simple, light-hearted approach to nutrition and health based on great tasting food. Paleo Primer was initially intended as a recipe booklet for our clients and Fitter London members. We wanted to provide some inspiration in the kitchen and some solutions to common health and nutrition issues we observed day to day. One page led to another and soon we realised we had created over 100 recipes and written 100 pages of nutrition advice. At that point we decided to bite the bullet and publish the information in a book. 2. What is it in particular about your book that makes it such an essential must-have to anyone who is interested in eating Primally and/or improving their health? The simplicity in our approach makes this book so essential, both in terms of the presentation of the information and the actual recipes (minimal ingredients and culinary skills needed). In our experience people seemed to be a little overwhelmed with all the conflicting advice regarding nutrition and also struggling to process some of the more advanced arguments provided, especially when regarding the science. Furthermore, those that could understand the case for Primal or Paleo nutrition were still struggling on a practical level and how to implement the principles encouraged. We believe in KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) to help people take on board the important messages and some simple steps and recipes that allow them to start putting things into practise immediately. Knowledge is power and if you understand the necessity for something you invest more time and energy in achieving it. 3. What is your favorite part of your book and why? The awesome recipes! We are passionate about good food and love cooking, so creating new recipes was the exciting part. We have taken what are traditionally unhealthy meals and made them incredibly nutritious without sacrificing on the taste. There was also a lot of trial and error involved and when we finally nailed a dish and managed a great photo it was a real high five moment! 4. What is the main problem that the subject of your book tackles (for example: my book is concerned with poor eating habits, cultural eating habits, personal exercise regimes, etc.)? A: The fact that today people lead hectic, busy lifestyles and everyone is time poor. The result of this is that everyone is always looking for convenience and short cuts, health in particular seems to be taking a back seat and suffering as a result. People now rely on 'fake' processed foods and also we've lost many traditional means of preparing and consuming foods, which have also impacted significantly upon our digestive wellbeing. Having worked with clients for years we observed all the barriers they experienced when trying to get healthy and address these in Paleo Primer. We were adamant our book would be fool proof in this respect and something everyone could implement daily. 5. What tools does your book suggest readers use to solve this problem? In Paleo Primer we emphasise the need to see food as medicine and the importance of investing in both sourcing and preparing your own food. We devoted a whole chapter to 'Meals in Minutes' that are a healthy equivalent to ready meals, to help keep people on track when really pushed for time. We address how people eat foods and discourage rushing meals and eating in front of the TV. We recommend batch cooking to minimize your time in the kitchen, for example, cooking extra dinner so that it can be eaten for lunch the following day. For special occasions or when you may have more time there are more creative, indulgent recipes in the Paleo Comfort Foods section so you don't miss your favourite meals at all. Whether you have 5 minutes or 30 minutes we have a recipe for you! 6. What do you see as the essential important message readers will take away from your book? Eating good quality, nutritious food is easier and tastier than you realise. Living a healthy life and feeling awesome just requires a little structure and know how. Our health is our life force and should always be top priority; Paleo Primer is a guide to making healthy easy. 7. What did you learn about yourself in the process of writing this book? We both learnt that anything is possible! We put the book together alongside our full time work running our own business and at times it was exhausting, however, our passion to change lives and help others really kept us charging towards our unrealistic deadline. Matt: "I discovered I'm a natural in the kitchen and have continued putting my healthy stamp on some awesome recipes. I've learnt so much about nutrition, cooking and food, this feels like just the start of my journey." Keris: "I love researching the benefits of ingredients, recipe ideas and facts about foods but practically I'm a nightmare in the kitchen. When trying to help Matt I set fire to a tea towel, burnt a roast dinner, and kept knocking over jars of ingredients! In my defense though, I'm definitely the better photographer. We're a great team!" 8. What did you discover about others during the process of writing this book? Our families and friends were incredibly supportive in helping to create the book. Proofing and testing recipes, providing feedback and just propping us up when we needed. We feel indebted to them as we would be lost without them and doubt the book would even exist. Also the response from the industry we work in has been overwhelming. Many nutritionists, personal trainers and gyms have not gone out of their way to congratulate us and have also been hugely instrumental in the success of our sales by spreading the word. We've been truly humbled by the kindness and loyalty of those around us (especially as we missed several birthdays and social events as we were too busy creating chaos in the kitchen!) 9. What quote from your book do you think best summarizes its content, over all message, and intent? "Nutrition that brings out the best in you!"

En qué medida los ejercicios nos permiten avanzar sin sobrecargar los ligamentos, meniscos y tendones? Cuáles son las señales de advertencia que debemos interpretar para saber cuándo detenernos?
