Edition Reuss Sweet Shaven Angels 2
Book SynopsisText in English, German & French. In the garden of Heaven, there already was a snake. As for the little juicy fruit Eve gave to humanity, it probably was, already, the carefully shaven genitals, pulpy and plump, that the girls display in this book with a smile. They offer themselves to be seen, self-confident, without hiding anything of their slit genitalia, like a tempting fruit. When they spread their thighs, they may unveil the little hill of their vulva but their cheeky looks and postures are always playful. Here we are in the realm of pretense, a world of fantasy where Eve''s daughters become elusive fairies.

Taschen GmbH Helmut Newton. Legacy
Book SynopsisVirtually unparalleled in scope and spanning more than five decades, the photography of visionary Helmut Newton (1920–2004) reached millions through publication in magazines like Vogue and Elle. His oeuvre transcended genres, bringing elegance, style, and voyeurism to fashion, portrait, and glamour photography through a body of work that remains as inimitable as it is unrivaled. Having mastered the art of fashion photography early in his career, Newton’s shoots invariably went beyond standard practice, blurring the lines between reality and illusion. Newton’s clear aesthetic pervades all areas of his work, particularly fashion, portraiture, and nude photography. Women take center stage – with subjects such as Catherine Deneuve, Liz Taylor, and Charlotte Rampling. Moving beyond traditional narrative approaches, Newton’s fashion photography is imbued not only with luxurious elegance and subtle seduction, but also cultural references and a surprising sense of humor. During the 1990s, Newton shot for the German, American, Italian, French, and Russian editions of Vogue, primarily in and around Monte Carlo where he was living from 1981 onwards. Transforming locations like his own garage into starkly contrasting or particularly minimalist theatrical stages, Newton would often portray the eccentric lives of the beautiful and rich, full of eroticism and elegance, in unconventional scenarios. He made use of and simultaneously questioned visual clichés, at times tinged with self-irony or mockery, but always full of empathy. Helmut Newton. Legacy showcases highlights from one of the most published bodies of work in photography, including numerous rediscovered images. A prolific image maker and genuine visionary, this book celebrates Newton’s lasting influence on modern photography and visual art to this day.Trade Review“In these times of collective virtue-signalling navel-gazing quasi-hysteria, as always Benedikt Taschen comes to our rescue, fearlessly publishing a volume crammed full of images to remind us that nudity, complicity, voyeurism and exhibitionism are all essential ingredients of happiness.” * Force One *“Celebrates the visionary’s immense legacy.” * anothermag.com *“The late visionary artist has been immortalized in Helmut Newton. Taschen GmbH Ren Hang
Book SynopsisRen Hang, who took his life February 23, 2017, was an unlikely rebel. Slight of build, shy by nature, prone to fits of depression, the 29-year-old Beijing photographer was nonetheless at the forefront Chinese artists’ battle for creative freedom. Like his champion Ai Weiwei, Ren was controversial in his homeland and wildly popular in the rest of the world. He said, “I don’t really view my work as taboo, because I don’t think so much in cultural context, or political context. I don’t intentionally push boundaries, I just do what I do.” Why? Because his models, friends, and in his last years, fans, are naked, often outdoors, high in the trees or on the terrifyingly vertiginous rooftops of Beijing, stacked like building blocks, heads wrapped in octopi, body cavities sprouting phone cords and flowers, whatever entered his mind at the moment. He denied his intentions were sexual, and there is a clean detachment about even his most extreme images: the urine, the insertions, the many, many erections. In a 2013 interview VICE magazine asked, “there are a lot of dicks … do you just like dicks?” Ren responded, “It’s not just dicks I’m interested in, I like to portray every organ in a fresh, vivid and emotional way.” True though that may be, the penises Ren photographed were not just fresh and vivid, but unusually large, making one wonder just where he met his friends. In the same piece, Hang also stated, “Gender isn’t important when I’m taking pictures, it only matters to me when I’m having sex,” making him a pioneer of gender inclusiveness. Young fans still eagerly flock to his website and Facebook, Instagram, and Flickr accounts. His photographs, all produced on film, have been the subject of over 20 solo and 70 group shows in his brief six-year career, in cities as disparate as Tokyo, Athens, Paris, New York, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Vienna, and yes, even Beijing. He self-published 16 monographs, in tiny print runs, that now sell for up to $ 600. TASCHEN’s Ren Hang is his only international collection, covering his entire career, with well-loved favorites and many never-before-seen photos of men, women, Beijing, and those many, many erections. We take solace remembering Ren’s joy when he first held the book, shared by his long-time partner Jiaqi, featured on the cover.Trade Review“I don’t really view my work as taboo, because I don’t think so much in cultural context or political context. I don’t intentionally push boundaries. I just do what I do.” * Ren Hang in The New York Times *

The stunning black-and-white images of athletic figures captured in motion on cliffs in breathtaking wild landscapes have made Fidelman famous within the climbing community.Fidelman followed his nomadic muses around North America and the world, framing them in the picturesque landscapes of Yosemite Valley; Joshua Tree; Moab, Utah; Patagonia; Europe; and coastal Thailand. The sensual photographs uniquely capture the stark beauty of athletes on the stone, their muscular bodies camouflaging with the formations of the rocks they are poised on. This book will appeal to those interested in climbing, lovers of nude photography, as well as anyone who appreciates breathtaking images of improbable physical feats across stunning landscapes.Trade Review"Right now, of course, we miss the rocks and our sport more than ever, because of the coronavirus and ensuing stay-at-home orders and closures of public lands. Rare Bird Books Daughters of Darkness
Book SynopsisDaughters of Darkness is a collection of fine art portraits of women in corpse paint. A nod to black metal and doom album cover art, Daughters of Darkness was photographed over 10+ years, with more than 400 models from all over the world, almost all of which did their own corpse paint and are fans of black metal. Daughters of Darkness features many celebrities, actresses, musicians, and models (some under the cover of corpse painted anonymity) all of whom donned only corpse paint for this book. Photographed by internationally renowned music and fine art photographer Jeremy Saffer, this project combines both his music photography and fine art photography worlds into a single project, which was conceived to capture the memory of flipping though albums in a music store and buying albums based entirely on the albums cover art (which often featured a nude portrait, someone in corpse paint, or both) prior to knowing the music or the band. Like the music that inspired it, Daughters of Darkness shows the duality of finding beauty in dark imagery, and finding darkness within beauty.

Convoke A Third Look
Book SynopsisIn A Third Look, Joseph Maida reflects on Lee Friedlander’s nudes from the 1970’s and 80’s, reinterpreting this series as a cutting edge homage both to Friedlander, the modernist titan of photography, and to LGBTQIA+ bodies across gender and identity spectra. When curator John Szarkowski first presented Friedlander’s nudes in a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in 1991, he wrote that "the qualities of generosity and openness, and the habit of continual exploration—of logical extemporization enlivened by an unassuming audacity" make Friedlander’s nudes so "richly and rewardingly complex." Maida, viewing the traits of openness, exploration, extemporization, and audacity as queerness itself, reimagined Friedlander’s nudes by picturing different bodies in A Third Look to converse with Friedlander’s. Maida calls their feminist reclamation of history "a visual queering of modernist photography, providing a visible reconciliation of where the canon of art photography has historically allowed us to see" with the broader spectrum of the human nude.

ACC Art Books Memory of Light
Book SynopsisThe nude body is timeless. When removed from the historical context of clothes or surroundings, it becomes an eternal, abstract expression of humanity. In this series, Memory of Light, Steen Evald’s photography transforms the body into sculptural shapes, exploring the interplay of light, shadow and skin. The penetrating brilliance of white light is at once harsh and purifying, revealing the core principle behind Evald’s work: the evocative simplicity of the human form. There are no disturbing elements, no superfluous effects, no staging. Only this: the women, the light and the darkness. Through Memory of Light, Evald explores photography as an art form and the body as a canvas.
