Cappelen Damm Akademisk CSR & Beyond: A Nordic Perspective
Book SynopsisFollowing the neoliberal turn in the 1980s, leading global companies have established an influential trend in business through adoption of the doctrine of corporate social and environmental responsibility (CSR). This book critically explores the new megatrend and its varying interpretations and presents overviews of several fields of CSR practice: governance, business ethics, SRI/ESG investment, communication, reporting, labour relations/HR, supply chain management, life cycle analysis, climate strategy, innovation, leadership and public policy. The book also presents visions of CSR development going forward. While the book contributes to the international research frontier, it also reflects its Nordic context, both with respect to authorship and empirical focus. Chapters on leading companies and on state CSR initiatives illustrate how the Nordic tradition has fostered pioneering CSR positions both in business and public policy. In the final chapter the book engages in the broader international debate on CSR, democracy, and value creation, with leading international critical thinkers in dialogue with industrial strategists.

Cappelen Damm Akademisk Det blåøyde riket: Norske tillitspatologier
Book SynopsisSocial trust is the key to, indeed the very success formula for, well-functioning and harmonious societies like the Norwegian one, both researchers and politicians claim. But can there be too much trust in a society? Can trust make us dull and naive? Does Norwegians'' great, almost boundless trust in authorities and state institutions leave the way open for corruption, abuse of power and national security threats - and for us Norwegians to a large extent tolerating incompetence? Yes, claim Nina Witoszek and Eva Joly, who in this book deal with what they call Norwegian trust pathologies. The authors show how the Norwegian trust has backfired on us, and has been abused by, among others, Norwegian peace brokers, tax lawyers, business leaders, politicians and the state oil company Equinor. They recognize that trust is an important social good. But it must be accompanied by common sense.

Fagbokforlaget Leadership Development in Multinational
Book SynopsisHow do leadership tasks change as companies internationalise, and how can companies provide their leaders with developmental opportunities to prepare them for operating within this context? These are questions that are discussed in this book. The background is the growing number of multinational companies and the fact that leadership capacity and capabilities seem to be considered a major prerequisite for success. The book is the result of a common interest and cooperation between academics, researchers and consultants at the NHH (Norwegian School of Economics), the SNF (Centre for Applied Research at the NHH) and the AFF (Administrative Research Institute at the NHH), which constitute the NHH Group. This synthesis of insight from academics and consultants is a unique feature of this book. The book covers theories of leadership and organisation that are relevant to the context of multinational companies (MNCs), empirical findings on leadership and leadership development, and recommendations for designing leadership development initiatives for MNCs. The AFF Foundation was established in 1952 on the initiative of Professor Rolf Waaler at the NHH. Its mission statement reads: To promote insight into leadership and organisations through research and development, consulting and related activities. This can be achieved through the Foundation''s own activities, financial support or cooperation with other institutions or individuals. Today the foundation pursues its mission primarily through part ownership of the leadership institute AFF AS.

University Press of Southern Denmark Social and Economic Development in the
Book SynopsisThe Arab Gulf states (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE) have over the past decades moved from near obscurity to prominence among actors in the global economy. This rise of the Gulf was facilitated by plentiful income from oil and gas and by the gradual process by which the economic centre of the world is shifting eastward. But first and foremost it has been a result of conscious policies conceived and implemented by the Gulf states to catch up with the developed world and not least to place their countries on a developmental trajectory which will secure the populations a sustainable livelihood in the future. This book recognises the significant developmental results achieved in the Gulf states over the past half of a century but focuses on the detrimental and disrupting effects created by the economic anomaly of sudden and massive influx of oil revenues. Effects such as the growth of rentier mentality, the crowding out of productive activities, the resulting lack of economic diversification. The oil-based development model worked well when the populations were small and the income from oil plentiful. With rapidly increasing populations and rising popular demands on the governments, this model can no longer adequately support these societies. The book investigates various elements of how the governments in the Gulf region tackle the difficult and often painful transition toward an ordinary type of economy, where wealth in society is a created by the skills and hard work of its population. Issues such as economic diversification, societal planning, institutional change, social reforms, educational achievements, demographic growth, job creation and the significant reliance on migrant labour are investigated.

HarperCollins India Overdraft: Saving the Indian Saver
Book SynopsisSHORTLISTED FOR THE GAJA CAPITAL BUSINESS BOOK PRIZE Winner of the Business Book of the Year at the Kalinga Literary Festival All of us love to spend. But before we can do that, we have to have earned or saved some money. Only sovereigns don''t have to: they can print money, or borrow; in our country, where they own banks, they can use our deposits to lend and splurge for goals that may not always be economic in nature. Many rulers have succumbed to the temptation, with dire results - inflation, debased currency, payments crises, bankrupt banks, economic stagnation, loss of public confidence. After centuries of ruinous experiences, some governments learnt, others haven''t, to control themselves, create self-governing Central banks and let them manage money and regulate banks. Sometime in 2015, news of unsustainable bad debts (non-performing assets or NPAs) in the Indian banking sector started to first trickle out, and then became a flood. In the forefront were some of India''s largest government banks, and a series of tycoons who were running their empires on unpaid debts. The banks'' problems landed on the table of Urjit Patel when he became Governor of Reserve Bank of India in September 2016. Based on thirty years of macroeconomic experience, he worked out the ''9R'' strategy which would save our savings, rescue our banks and protect them from unscrupulous racketeers. In this book, he explains the problem and how it blew up; and how he would have resolved it if he had not been prevented.

Orient Blackswan Pvt Ltd Women Entrepreneurship in the Indian Middle
Book SynopsisEntrepreneurship can result from necessity as well as opportunity, and women entrepreneurs pursue goals beyond economic gains. There is no gender differential in drivers of business expansion. The small scale of business does not inhibit women-owned micro enterprises from expanding. In Women Entrepreneurship in the Indian Middle Class, Unni, Yadav, Naik and Dutta explore entrepreneurship using a gender and class lens from multidisciplinary perspectives. They examine the evolution of the field and uncover factors impacting women''s participation in entrepreneurship. Defining entrepreneurship broadly to include not just new economic activity but operations of all economic enterprises, the authors attempt to understand: What motivates women in India to operate enterprises ranging from small and medium to large enterprises? What is the nature of occupations and entrepreneurship within segments of the middle classes? What kind of opportunities do women pursue? Using a novel macro and micro research approach, the authors propose an enabling framework of women entrepreneurship ecosystem in India and highlight the way forward. The insights from this book will help policymakers formulate appropriate nudge techniques to encourage productive entrepreneurship. This book is a must-read for researchers and aspiring women entrepreneurs for grasping the dynamics of this emerging area.
