Nova Science Publishers Inc Issues in Economic Thought
Book SynopsisAs it is well known, the present is rooted in the past. For this reason by studying the past, we can better understand not only some basic principles of the ideas proposed by modern economics, but also some make some recommendations to meet future economic problems of society. A huge literature has been developed on the theories and approaches of the most eminent economists. However, there is not much literature analysing contributions different from English-language on several concrete topics. For this reason, this book tries to cover this gap. In this sense, three aspects are considered: the contributions of Italian authors, Smithsonian approaches on education, growth and moral aspects, and, finally, some modern contributions.

Nova Science Publishers Inc Innovative Regulatory Approaches Coping with
Book SynopsisThis book analyses the regulatory regimes that are now having their day of dominance. The traditional ideal of democracy as governance by the people has been overshadowed by the practice of governance over the people through extensive top-down regulatory measures. In the regulatory state, the concepts of regulation as authoritative rules and agree normative action lead to the important distinction between ''hard regulation'' and ''soft regulation''. This book offers an account of the inherent vulnerability of the regulatory state caused by one-sided economic thinking and the predominance of governing through hard regulation. The implementation of policies has been taken over by technocratic, ''unelected'' arm''s length state bodies, which govern over more than by the people. This book focuses on contextual universal issues but with selected cases from Scandinavia and the regulatory European Union.

Nova Science Publishers Inc European Response to the Financial Crisis
Book SynopsisSome members of the European Union (EU) initially viewed the financial crisis as a purely American phenomenon. That view has changed as economic activity in the EU has declined at a fast pace over a short period of time. The authors of this book discuss the European Economic Recovery Plan, designed to exploit synergies and avoid negative spill-over effects through co-ordinated action, draw on all available policy levels, fiscal policies, structural and financial market reforms and external action and ensure full coherence between immediate actions and the EU''s medium- to longer term objectives. This book provides an overview of the Swedish banking crisis and an explanation of the measures Sweden used to restore its banking system to health. Moreover, the recent experiences of Switzerland and other European countries (including Iceland, the UK, Sweden and Austria) raise questions about how national governments can effectively supervise large financial firms that operate across national borders. This book focuses on the development of organisational structures within national economies that can provide oversight of the different segments of the highly financial system. This book consists of public documents which have been located, gathered, combined, reformatted, and enhanced with a subject index, selectively edited and bound to provide easy access.

Nova Science Publishers Inc Understanding the Process of Economic Change in
Book SynopsisThe institutional endowment of a country determines government's regulatory choices, the public policies, incentives, and the direction of economic activities in the country and the level of the economic efficiency. The authors use this conceptual framework introduced by Levy and Spiller (1996) to examine how institutional endowment in Turkey influence economic and political structure. In this context, most elements of institutional endowments in Turkey are common to all sectors and reforms, (namely, legislative and executive institutions, nature of the judicial system, bureaucratic structure). They also observe the political economy of the change in Turkey. For that reason, they observe similarities and differences in the contests among groups with divergent interests for the different policy changes and reforms processes. Thus, they introduce a crucial guide for scholars, researchers, and investors around the world about the political and economic structure in Turkey

Nova Science Publishers Inc U.S. Trade, Protectionism & the Global Economic
Book SynopsisThe U.S. trade deficit is shrinking primarily because the global financial crisis is causing U.S. exports to drop faster than U.S. imports. In today''s severe global economic downturn, concerns are being raised that countries may try to improve their own trade positions in order to help domestic industries at the expense of others by imposing measures that artificially increase their exports or restrict imports. Such efforts are considered by some to be a form of "protectionism". This book develops three scenarios to approximate different dimensions of the relationship between the global economic downturn and protectionism, as well as reviewing why the U.S. trade deficit is shrinking so severely.

Nova Science Publishers Inc U.S.-Singapore Free Trade Agreement After Five
Book SynopsisThe U.S.-Singapore FTA has taken on new importance in trade policy because the United States is engaged in negotiations to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). In addition, the U.S.-Singapore FTA has provided greater access for U.S. companies, has been instrumental in increasing bilateral trade, and has provided reassurance to Singaporeans of U.S. interest in the country. As a city-state, Singapore operates as an entrepot with essentially free trade. Under the FTA, concessions dealt mainly with providing greater access for American service providers and with strengthening the business environment in areas such as the protection of intellectual property rights and access to government procurement. This book examines the U.S.-Singapore Free Trade Agreement in detail, as well as the documented effects after five years.

Nova Science Publishers Inc North American Free Trade Agreement After Five
Book SynopsisEconomic motivations are generally the major driving force for the formation of free trade agreements among countries, but there are other reasons countries enter into FTAs, including political and security factors. This book provides an overview of the North American Free Trade Agreement, the current functions of the free trade agreement, and the effects of this agreement which have affected both countries over the last five years.
