Hackett Publishing Co, Inc Zhuangzi The Essential Writings
Book SynopsisA translation of over two-thirds of the classic Daoist text "Zhuangzi" (Chuang Tzu), including the complete inner chapters and selections from the outer and miscellaneous chapters, as well as judicious selections from 2000 years of traditional Chinese commentaries.Trade ReviewThe Zhuangzi, with its 'goblet words,' lends itself by design to endless interpretation, of which no single instance has any real claim to the 'correct' meaning of the text. To date, Zhuangzi translations have presented their readers with only a single view of the text--that of the translator himself. With Ziporyn's book, the English world finally has the means to read the Zhuangzi the way it should be read: through the eyes of many. Ziporyn has carefully selected the most illuminating passages to be found within several of the most brilliant Zhuangzi commentaries written over the past two millennia, and he has rendered these often abstruse interpretations, along with the key Zhuangzi chapters which form their subject, accurately and lucidly into flowing English prose. This extraordinary work sets the new standard for Zhuangzi translations, and will prove an indispensable resource for anyone who wishes to take a comprehensive view of this most timeless and boundless of Chinese philosophical classics. --Scott Cook, Grinnell CollegeIn Ziporyn, the Zhuangzi has found a worthy translator who brings both philosophical and Sinological acumen to the book. . . . Readers encounter not only the primary text in a fluid, readable translation, but also may refer to selected commentaries on particular passages with ease. . . . His translation offers a splendid portal into the thought of one of the funniest philosophers of all time. --Jeffrey L. Richey, Berea CollegeWith judicious abridgement (sixteen full chapters, including all seven Inner chapters, plus selections from six more) and valuable added commentary, this book is a great choice for the undergraduate classroom. The translation often provides a fresh perspective to old problems, and the selection of commentary delivers a focus and accessibility that engages—and encourages us to re-engage—the considerable commentarial tradition. The translation is a delight. Ziporyn's lucid prose is often a marked improvement over his predecessors. . . . Footnotes are more plentiful than in the previous translations and are especially helpful with a text like the Zhuangzi. The selections from traditional commentaries are the most innovative feature of this translation, in keeping with Edward Slingerland's Analects and Bryan Van Norden's Mengzi translations (also from Hackett). Ziporyn provides extracts from forty-seven commentators that offer valuable contextualization as well as a variety of perspectives from which to approach the text. Overall Ziporyn's translation is smooth, clear and accurate, his notes are helpful, and his commentary selections bring new and welcome dimensions to the text as textbook and as an aid for scholarly research. --Paul Fischer, American University in Cairo, in Philosophy East & West

Bloomsbury Publishing PLC Technic and Magic
Book SynopsisWe take for granted that only certain kind of things exist electrons but not angels, passports but not nymphs. This is what we understand as reality'. But in fact, reality' varies with each era of the world, in turn shaping the field of what is possible to do, think and imagine. Our contemporary age has embraced a troubling and painful form of reality: Technic. Under Technic, the foundations of reality begin to crumble, shrinking the field of the possible and freezing our lives in an anguished state of paralysis. Technic and Magic shows that the way out of the present deadlock lies much deeper than debates on politics or economics. By drawing from an array of Northern and Southern sources spanning from Heidegger, Junger and Stirner's philosophies, through Pessoa's poetry, to Advaita Vedanta, Bhartrhari, Ibn Arabi, Suhrawardi and Mulla Sadra's theosophies Magic is presented as an alternative system of reality to Technic. While Technic attempts to capture the world through an Trade ReviewFederico Campagna's book is a brilliant tour de force that oscillates between lucid analyses of philosophical concepts, bridging the gap between Eastern and Western frameworks, and radical propositions for alternative worlds. By attempting to galvanize human perception out of its paralyzed and bordered state, what William Blake refers to as ‘the narrow chinks of [our] cavern’, Campagna expertly unravels the very foundations upon which our contemporary reality sits. Technic and Magic gradually builds towards a new and striking reconfiguration of reality that merges together the past, present and future. -- Hans Ulrich Obrist, Artistic Director at the Serpentine Galleries, London, UKFederico Campagna’s brilliant Technic and Magic is essential reading for our desperate times. This stunning historical and philosophical exploration radically transforms our understanding of the global technological culture we now inhabit. -- Jonathan Crary, Meyer Schapiro Professor of Modern Art and Theory, Columbia University, USA, author of 24/7Both Technic and Magic are used by us to change the world. However, as Frederico Campagna argues, Technic serves the accumulation of power whereas Magic, on the contrary, protects life and its value. In his fascinating book Campagna makes a parcours through the Indian, Islamic and old Gnostic sources to discover the hidden, hermetic tradition of magical thinking that keeps its relevance also for our contemporary condition. -- Boris Groys, Global Distinguished Professor of Russian and Slavic Studies, New York University, USACampagna takes us on a philosophically rich journey that is signposted by new terms and concepts discussed with due reference to other philosophical settings, including as they developed in Persia. His engaging prose promises to make a distinct contribution to emerging fields of knowledge. -- Arshin Adib-Moghaddam, Professor in Global Thought and Comparative Philosophies, SOAS, University of London, and Chair of the Centre for Iranian Studies at the London Middle East Institute, UKThis is a book not only for philosophers but also for poets and their readers and for all those who try to uphold the dignity of their spiritual existence. Is magic still a liveable territory? Federico Campagna asks fundamental questions but also has original suggestions how to keep this high flame alive in a radically non-magical world. -- Adam Zagajewski, poet, novelist and translator, author of 'Mysticism for Beginners: Poems'Campagna breaks with tradition by advancing scholarship that explores a common past and common understandings of meta-philosophical concepts, crossing the geopolitical barriers between the East and the West. Bloomsbury Publishing PLC The Philosophy of the Yogasutra
Book SynopsisKaren O''Brien-Kop''s introduction to the Yogasutra highlights its status as a significant work of philosophy. Approaching the Yogasutra as living philosophy, this book elucidates philosophical conceptions of yoga, recognises the logical structure the sutras follow and explains the rules and principles that have sustained Patañjali's system of thought for centuries. Moving beyond standard interpretations of Patañjali''s text and commentary as an aphoristic practice manual, O''Brien-Kop uses branches of philosophy to read the Yogasutra. Covering reality, self, ethics, language and knowledge, Patañjali's philosophies come to the fore. The book introduces his reasoned positions on dual and nondual metaphysics, the relationship between mind and body, the qualities of consciousness, the nature of freedom, and how to live ethically. Carefully-selected extracts from the primary text are translated for those unfamiliar with Sanskrit and commentaries run throughouTrade ReviewThe Philosophy of the Yogasutra by Karen O'Brien-Kop offers an insightful analysis of various philosophical arguments presented by Patañjali. Her critical examination of recent discussions of Patañjali’s philosophy around various topics of contemporary relevance will definitely help to position yoga philosophy as a serious interlocutor in global philosophical conversations. * Ana Laura Funes, Associate Professor of Philosophy, Eastern Connecticut State University, USA *O’Brien-Kop’s claim that Yoga is “a system of living, breathing philosophy” (not just an historical artefact) rings true in this fine book. This refreshing study succeeds in many ways—above all, it brings Patañjali’s text into dialogue with contemporary philosophical debates. The Philosophy of the Yogasutra belongs on the reading list of yoga practitioners and scholars alike. * Geoffrey Ashton, Associate Professor of Philosophy, University of San Francisco, USA *Karen O’Brien-Kop’s The Philosophy of the Yogasutra is a much-needed book that presents the Patañjalayogasastra as a work of philosophy. Such is an aspect that is often overlooked. The book’s thematic presentation of the philosophy of the Patañjalayogasastra should help even those who are untrained in Indian philosophy grasp it. * Kengo Harimoto, Research Associate, University of Naples “L’Orientale”, Italy *Table of ContentsList of Figures Key Figures Glossary of Terms List of Abbreviations Note on translations Patañjalayogasastra 1. Inner Traditions Bear and Company Yoga Nidra Meditation: The Sleep of the Sages
Book SynopsisA practice to consciously explore wakefulness, dreaming, deep sleep, and the very structure of your emotional, mental, and energy bodies • Details the simple postures of Yoga Nidra, breathing exercises and guided meditations, and tips for maintaining awareness in the liminal state that precedes sleep • Includes four complete sessions as well as pointers for creating your own sessions Known as the “yoga of conscious sleep,” Yoga Nidra is an ancient Indian practice that allows you to consciously explore the states of wakefulness, dream, and deep sleep as well as your own psyche by combining deep relaxation with attentive awareness. Through Yoga Nidra you can directly observe and understand specific physiological, emotional, and mental processes within yourself as well as experience moments of great inner tranquility, joy, and well-being. Providing a step-by-step guide to Yoga Nidra, Pierre Bonnasse details the simple postures of Yoga Nidra and includes preparatory techniques that work with breath and guided meditations to help you become an attuned observer of your inner world. Offering tips for withdrawing the senses and maintaining awareness in the liminal state that precedes sleep, the author explores how all practices in this discipline begin with a phase of relaxation and observation of breathing, followed by immersion into a very subtle awareness of the physical, energy, and mental bodies. The higher states of more advanced sessions focus on the energy body and its components: the chakras, nadis, and pranavayu, the vital breath and autonomic functions of the body. Including four complete sessions as well as pointers for creating your own, Bonnasse shows how Yoga Nidra offers stabilizing, and therapeutic effects for the body, emotions, and thoughts. Connecting Indian and Western philosophical ideas, the author shows how sleep can be an opportunity to practice a form of yoga that changes not only our nights but every minute of our days.Trade Review“Pierre Bonnasse’s Yoga Nidra Meditation is no glib self-help book about using modern yoga nidra--the practice of visualizing images, having awareness of breath, and remaining immobile while in a lucid, sleep-like state--for getting rid of stress and anxiety. It is, instead, an in-depth, wise, and elegantly written presentation of the philosophy and practice of modern yoga nidra as nothing less than a means of attaining a ‘taste of Being’ of Brahman. In this, the book itself is a kind of meditation--the kind that one may read at bedtime in order to facilitate slipping into sleep.” * Elliott Goldberg, author of The Path of Modern Yoga *“Yoga Nidra Meditation: The Sleep of the Sages is as much about waking up as it is about sleeping. Bonnasse shows us how to wake up from the sleepy dreams that dull our consciousness and keep our natural enlightened state concealed. He tells us that to go beyond the body into our awakened state, first we have to go into the body, awakening its sensations and breath. The awakened state of the body then becomes the river that takes us beyond our limited sense of self. This is an important message, beautifully expressed, and the author offers powerful, yet simple, instructions on entering the state of yoga nidra for ourselves.” * Will Johnson, author of Breathing through the Whole Body and Eyes Wide Open *Table of ContentsPREFACE Yoga Nidra: A Journey into the States of Matter, Consciousness, and the Joy of Being INTRODUCTION Indian Philosophy and the Limbs and Paths of Yoga PART I The Philosophy of Yoga Nidra The Origins of Yoga NidraStates of ConsciousnessWho Am I?The Sheaths of the BeingAwareness, Energy, Elements, and States of MatterQualities of SleepAn Approach to Indian PsychologyThe Manifestation of PhenomenaThe Energy System in YogaThe Phenomenal World and Constructions of the MindThe Unconscious MindFears, Desires, and SufferingSleep and Death PART II The Practice of Yoga Nidra Yoga Nidra as a PracticeThe Limbs of Yoga According to the Nidra TraditionPreparatory ExercisesExercises for Falling AsleepExercises for the NightExercises for Waking UpYoga of Dreams--Svapna YogaProtocol for Yoga NidraThe Art of Living in Total AwarenessFields of Application for Yoga NidraThe Ultimate SurrenderPART III Putting Yoga Nidra into Practice Four Practice Sessions Micro-Practices Session 1: Blue Star (Nilatara Yoga Nidra)Session 2: Contemplation of the Elements (Mahabhuta Visarga Yoga Nidra)Session 3: From the Sound AUM to Non-contact (Pranava Asparsha Yoga Nidra)Session 4: The Art of Dying (Marana Yoga Nidra)Practices to Inspire and Create Your SessionsAPPENDIX “The Taste of Yogic Sleep”: An Interview with Pierre Bonnasse Notes Suggested Readings Index

The Book of Tea was originally written in English and sought to address the inchoate yearnings of disaffected Westerners. In a flash of inspiration, Okakura saw that the formal tea party as practiced in New England was a distant cousin of the Japanese tea ceremony, and that East and West had thus met in the tea-cup.For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. New World Library Psychotherapy East and West
Book SynopsisMan is burdened with an ego that is in constant conflict with society and nature, in perpetual flight from loneliness and death. Despite its diverse methods, the single aim of psychotherapy is to free man from his endless self-battle.Alan Watts’s arresting, provocative study shows how Eastern philosophers long ago facedand solvedthe problem of man’s existence in a seemingly hostile universe. Buddhism, Vedanta, and Taoism are examined and related to the theories of Freud, Jung, Sullivan, and May. The inscrutable wisdom of Zen masters is made clear by Alan Watts as he explains how the modern fiction” of the ego has clouded the sights of psychotherapy and blocked Western man from his true place in nature. The source of modern man’s conflict, according to Watts, is the society that traps the ego in a doublebind” of contradictory demands. This is the Hindu-Buddhist maya, or social illusion, which one must apprehend before one can be aware of a universal reality. When psychotherapy merely helps the individual to adjust to social norms, it falls short of true liberation; Eastern philosophy seeks man''s natural relation to the cosmos. In this invigorating analysis, Watts maintains that Western science and art are reaching a closer agreement with the Eastern view of nature than is conventional psychotherapy. The powerful insights of Freud and Jung brought psychiatry close to the edge of liberation, but stopped short because of concepts which are deeply rooted in Western culture. The fallacy of the ego, the burden of guilt, Alan Watts suggests, can be finally removed for modern man by unlocking the secrets of Eastern wisdom.

Book SynopsisZen as the idea path for those who have left institutional religion behindIn this liminal moment, when the grip of our old religions has loosened, a prominent Zen practitioner asks: What is religion? What is spirituality? And what is it all about?Ford begins by invoking the ideas of Aldous Huxley, welcoming what he calls a “naturalistic perennialism.” Ford believes there are currents of religion that are rooted in our biology. And as something natural, it is something that people can find within all religions, in fact, the heart birthing of all religions. Then, true to the book’s title of the book, Ford asks and answers, “Why then, Zen?” and demonstrates how pure Zen is as simple as noticing and waking: an expression of an intimate way of life.Four noble truths, ox herding pictures, samadhi, koan, lovingkindness, and many other Zen essentials are here, in succinct and conversational prose that offers a lifeboat to anyone who feels something missing in the absence of religious life.

D.K. Printworld Determinism in Sramanic Traditions
Book SynopsisJain, Bauddha and Ajivaka belong to Sramanic tradition. Ajivakas were firm believers of determinism (Niyativada). Determinism, in philosophy, implies that all events, including moral choices, are completely determined by previously existing causes. But when we talk about niyati as per Jain perspectives, there is a doctrine of karma. According to karma theory, an individual's present condition is determined not by any absolute principle but by his own actions performed either in his past lives or in this life. By freely choosing the right course and following it faithfully, he could improve his destiny and ultimately win salvation. But Jainism does not totally reject the doctrine of Niyativada. It talks of five co-factors (panca-samavaya), i.e. kala, svabhava, niyati, purvakrta and purusa. The first cause of the universe is false when each of the five factors is taken singly but true when they are considered jointly. Buddhist text Digha Nikaya talks of two types: (1) Theistic determinism (2) Karmic determinism. However, Buddha does not teach that we have complete freedom or that we are determined, but that our will is conditioned or limited to a greater or lesser extent.

Wisdom Publications,U.S. Appearing and Empty
Book SynopsisIn this final volume on emptiness, the Dalai Lama skillfully reveals the Prasangikas’ view of the ultimate nature of reality so that we will gain the correct view of emptiness, the selflessness of both persons and phenomena, and have the means to eliminate our own and others’ duhkha. In this last of three volumes on emptiness, the Dalai Lama takes us through the Sautrantika, Yogacara, and Svatantrika views on the ultimate nature of reality and the Prasangikas’ thorough responses to these, so that we gain the correct view of emptiness—the selflessness of both persons and phenomena. This view entails negating inherent existence while also being able to establish conventional existence: emptiness does not mean nothingness. We then learn how to meditate on the correct view by cultivating pristine wisdom that is the union of serenity and insight as taught in the Pali, Chinese, and Tibetan traditions. Such meditation, when combined with the altruistic intention of bodhicitta, leads to the complete eradication of all defilements that obscure our minds. This volume also introduces us to the tathagatagarbha—the buddha essence—and how it is understood in both Tibet and China. Is it permanent? Does everyone have it? In addition, the discussion of sudden and gradual awakening in Zen (Chan) Buddhism and in Tibetan Buddhism is fascinating.

Jessica Kingsley Publishers Daoist Nei Gong for Women: The Art of the Lotus
Book SynopsisAlthough the energetic anatomy of men and women is different, the ancient teachings of Nu Dan, a separate branch of internal alchemy for women, have been lost in the literature over the centuries and only survive through practice in the lineages. This book takes a detailed look at female energetic anatomy, exploring how it is different from its male counterpart, and explains and describes the specific practices which support the unique strengths and challenges that the female energy system presents. Previously wrapped in secrecy, the teachings in this book include qigong exercises that activate the energy of the uterus and an explanation of how menstruation and a connection to the cycles of the moon can be converted into a tool for Nei Gong development.Trade ReviewI knew I had found a rare treasure for my instructors and students when I read Roni and Damo's Daoist Nei Gong for Women. Hackett Publishing Co, Inc Buddhism As Philosophy
Book SynopsisIn Buddhism As Philosophy, Mark Siderits makes the Buddhist philosophical tradition accessible to a Western audience. Offering generous selections from the canonical Buddhist texts and providing an engaging, analytical introduction to the fundamental tenets of Buddhist thought, this revised, expanded, and updated edition builds on the success of the first edition in clarifying the basic concepts and arguments of the Buddhist philosophers.Trade Review"Since the publication of the first edition of Buddhism As Philosophy, the need for such a book has only grown as even more undergraduate programs are teaching Buddhist philosophy and looking for accessible materials that still do justice to the tradition’s intellectual complexity. This updated version retains the first version's successful balancing act between fidelity to primary source material and application to general philosophical problems. The book teaches students how to do philosophy at the same time as it teaches them the particularities of Buddhist philosophy. Siderits moves fluidly from translations of primary texts to their explication and evaluation, both modeling expert philosophical methodology and pausing to explain to students how philosophical argumentation works." —Malcolm Keating, Yale-NUS College"I use Buddhism As Philosophy as the core text of my 'Non-Western Philosophy' topics course; I’m a huge fan. Siderits's exposition provides a deeply illuminating, historically and philosophically informed walk through the underlying motivations for and diverse Indian Buddhist approaches to the doctrines of 'no-self' and 'emptiness.' This new edition improves on the previous with a new organizational structure, and clarified and expanded argumentation and discussion. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the metaphysical, epistemological, and ethical underpinnings and consequences of Buddhism." —Jessica Wilson, University of TorontoPraise for the first edition: "Buddhism As Philosophy . . . makes an excellent text for advanced undergraduate students. . . . [A] main strength of this book is the way it brings Indian Buddhist philosophy into active dialogue and debate with well-established currents of Anglo-American analytical philosophy." —Evan Thompson, Philosophy East and West"The study of Buddhism at the undergraduate level is often placed in religious studies, where the myriad aspects of Buddhist teachings, history, ritual, sociology, and art are all rolled into one, creating a robust course but one that lacks the depth of Buddhist philosophical argumentation. Siderits moves in the opposite direction, removing all but the essential philosophical points. Written explicitly as a resource for undergraduate philosophy students, the book focuses on the classical South Asian tradition, explicating the many cycles of teachings through the use of extensive primary source material and explaining the complexities of Buddhist philosophy in a way accessible to those accustomed to studying Western philosophy. This revision of the 2007 edition was expanded to clarify some of the more difficult passages used throughout and includes introductory notes on usage suitable for undergraduates. This volume is required reading as a survey of Buddhist philosophy, not just for the undergraduate classroom but for any scholar entering the complex philosophies of South Asia. Summing Up: Essential."—A. N. Weiss, Loyola Marymount University, in CHOICE

Jessica Kingsley Publishers A Comprehensive Guide to Daoist Nei Gong
Book SynopsisNei Gong is the practice leading to attainment of real internal skill and transformation, and the philosophical art of change that runs through all Daoist practice. This book provides a unprecedented insight into the entire Nei Gong process, expanding upon the foundations laid in the author's previous widely read book, Daoist Nei Gong, to provide a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the practice. Going into unparalleled detail whilst remaining accessible, it explains the philosophy at the heart of Nei Gong , and the steps whereby transformation is achieved. A foundational knowledge of Chinese medicine will help the reader appreciate the explanation more deeply, but is not required for understanding. Essential reading for anyone seriously interested Qi Gong, Chinese martial arts, and the Daoist tradition, the book will also be an invaluable resource for practitioners of Chinese medicine, or advanced meditation.Trade ReviewI urge anyone interested in the internal arts to read this book. You won't get standard regurgitated descriptions of Qi or Qi gong. Nor will you get exotic tales of secret rituals in dark caverns. What you will get is a truly comprehensive sharing of profound information in an accessible format. Damo has not only dedicated his life to cultivating 'gong' but also to understanding the processes involved (somatically and intellectually) so that others can benefit. -- Dr Cindy Engel, Associate Lecturer, The Open University, U.KI really don't know of anyone else who has written about the nei gong process in the depth and detail in which Damo has. He clearly writes from a depth of experience in the nei gong tradition. He has a unique ability to explain nei gong in a clear and logical way that anyone can understand if prepared to make the effort. The diagrams in the books are especially helpful in making concepts clear. -- Kenneth Morgan * Medical Qigong Education Centre *Table of ContentsPreface; Foreword by Paul Mitchell; Acknowledgements; 1. Penguin Books Ltd Ardor
Book SynopsisIn this revelatory volume, Roberto Calasso, whom the Paris Review has called 'a literary institution', explores the ancient texts known as the Vedas. Little is known about the Vedic people who lived more than three thousand years ago in northern India: they left behind almost no objects, images, ruins. Only a 'Parthenon of words' remains: verses and formulations suggesting a daring understanding of life. 'If the Vedic people had been asked why they did not build cities,' writes Calasso, 'they could have replied: we did not seek power, but rapture.' This is the ardor of the Vedic world, a burning intensity that is always present, both in the mind and in the cosmos. With his signature erudition and profound sense of the past, Calasso explores the enigmatic web of ritual and myth that define the Vedas. Often at odds with modern thought, he shows how these texts illuminate the nature of consciousness more than neuroscientists have been able to offer us up to now.

Nilgiri Press The Bhagavad Gita for Daily Living, Volume 1: A
Book SynopsisA comprehensive manual for living a spiritual life, based on a verse-by-verse commentary on India’s timeless scripture – from the author of its best-selling translation.(The ebook The Bhagavad Gita for Daily Living 9781586381455 includes all three volumes in this series.)The Bhagavad Gita is set on the battlefield of an apocalyptic war between good and evil. Faced with a dire moral dilemma, the warrior prince Arjuna turns in anguish to his spiritual guide, Sri Krishna, for answers to the fundamental questions of life.Easwaran points out that Arjuna’s crisis is acutely modern. The Gita’s battlefield is the struggle for self-mastery that every human being must wage. Arjuna represents each of us, and Sri Krishna is the Lord, instructing us in eighteen chapters of lofty wisdom as we face the social, environmental, and global challenges that threaten our world today.Easwaran is a spiritual teacher and author of deep insight and warmth. His verse-by-verse commentary interprets the Gita’s teachings for modern readers, explaining the Sanskrit concepts and philosophy and applying them with practicality, wisdom, and humor to every aspect of our work, our relationships, and our lives. With everyday anecdotes, stories, and examples, he shows that the changes we long to see in the world start with the transformation of our own consciousness. The practical exercises recommended by Easwaran to achieve transformation are part of a spiritual program he developed for his own life. They are accessible to people from all backgrounds and cultures. Urging us to adopt a higher image of the human being, he assures us that peace and unity are within reach. Each volume of this series covers six chapters of the Gita. Each may be read on its own, but all three volumes together form an in-depth, verse-by-verse explanation of this ancient scripture and its relevance today. Each volume includes instructions in Easwaran's universal eight-point program of passage meditation.Volume 1: The first six chapters of the Gita explore the concept of the innermost Self and source of wisdom in each of us. Easwaran explains how we can begin to transform ourselves, even as householders engaged in busy lives.Volume 2: The next six chapters of the Gita go beyond the individual Self to explore the Supreme Reality underlying all creation. Easwaran builds a bridge across the seeming divide between scientific knowledge and spiritual wisdom, and explains how the concept of the unity of life can help us in all our relationships.Volume 3: The final six chapters put forth an urgent appeal for us to begin to see that all of us are one – to make the connection between the Self within and the Reality underlying all creation. Global in scope, the emphasis is on what we can do to make a difference to heal our environment and establish peace in the world.Easwaran’s commentary is for all students of the Gita, whatever their background, and for anyone who is trying to find a path to wisdom, love, and kindness in themselves and our troubled world. Written as an authoritative, accessible guide to a much-loved scripture, it is a handbook for finding peace and clarity within. This second edition incorporates revisions made across all three volumes following the author’s final instructions.Trade ReviewNo one in modern times is more qualified — no make that ‘as qualified’ — to translate the epochal Classics of Indian Spirituality than Eknath Easwaran. And the reason is clear. It is impossible to get to the heart of those classics unless you live them, and he did live them.
