Book SynopsisA quick-reference, multi-media guide to using dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to treat affect dysregulation.Trade Review"Through its clear and organized writing, [this book] is a great learning experience as it explains through figures and points how to lead a successful therapy. . . By following the instructions of the editors, readers gain insight and knowledge into how best to incorporate DBT into their work and how best to help clients who require this therapy." -- International Journal of Psychotherapy"Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Emotion Dysregulation . . . contains an excellent introduction to the theory and it offers basic knowledge on how it is applied. . . . I gained a basic understanding of the theory, and also found tools to work with clients who are struggling with their emotions." -- The Milton H. Erickson Foundation Newsletter"I enjoyed this series from two different perspectives: The first perspective is as a professor of counseling who occasionally teaches theory. Students using these books will find them readable, thorough, and applicable to the practice of therapy. New therapists will find them useful to consolidate their own use practice, and they will possibly be introduced to new material. . . . For the experienced practitioner who wants to expand into other modalities, these books introduce a new therapeutic approach. And for those who have only had a quick overview of many theories, this series offers another look, and possibly new material to add to what was already studied. . . . I recommend this series and hope that it will be expanded to include other therapeutic approaches." -- The Milton H. Erickson Foundation Newsletter"Psychotherapy Essentials To Go is a truly impressive series of books. Elevating pragmatics over dogma, it is grounded in the wisdom of front-line psychotherapists who adapt the core principles of empirically supported psychotherapies to flexibly address a myriad of clinical issues. No other series of psychotherapy handbooks is as skillfully concise and yet thorough. It will quickly become a standard reference for teaching and enhancing clinical competence." -- Zindel V. Springer International Publishing AG Clinical Behavior Analysis for Children
Book SynopsisThis book is a guide for child psychotherapists interested in applying clinical behavioral analysis to their work and for clinical behavior analysts working with children. In the literature of behavior analysis, a considerable number of publications present clinical strategies to more effectively conduct therapeutic interventions with adults and adolescents, but there is still a lack of publications that address practical aspects of the work of the child behavior analytic therapist. This volume aims do fill this void by bringing together chapters written by therapists who share their views on theoretical and practical aspects of child care and describe the stages and challenges of the psychotherapy process with clients of up to 12 years of age. Chapters in this volume provide an overview of the specific knowledge and techniques clinical behavior analysts need to master to work with children, such as theories of child development from the perspective of behavior analysis; biological influences on the development of child behavior; clinical assessment and definition of therapeutic goals in the work with children; how to include functional play in clinical settings; and how to involve parents and the school in the therapeutic process. Additionally, specific chapters focus on the application of third wave behavioral therapies, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Functional Analytic Psychotherapy, to the clinical work with children. Clinical Behavior Analysis for Children will be a valuable resource for psychotherapists and clinical psychology students looking for a guide to understand the specificities of clinical behavior analysis applied to child psychotherapy. This manual is the result of their work, and represents the most scientifically effective behavioral treatment for Tourette Syndrome available today. The treatment program uses Habit Reversal Training (HRT) for children and adults with chronic tic disorder. Individual treatment is based at its core on awareness training, the development of a specific competing response for each tic, and the use of functionally-based strategies for the elimination of tic-exacerbating antecedent and consequent variables. In addition, individual treatment includes techniques designed to enhance patient compliance, including social support and an inconvenience review, as well as scheduled time for the therapist and client to discuss areas of functioning that individuals with TS may find difficult, such as social/familial difficulties and disruptive/anger/rage behavior. Each week, clients are given homework assignments, to be done 4-5 times per week, consisting of 20 to 30 minutes of awareness and competing response training to tics addressed in session. The client will be encouraged to keep tally marks to monitor tic behavior. Home-based monitoring and competing response training are reviewed at each session. All homework assignments will be available in the companion workbook.

Taylor & Francis Ltd Applying Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic
Book SynopsisCognitive-behavioural therapies (CBTs) are foundational to sport psychology. The majority of the psychological techniques employed by sport psychologists in their work with athletes stem from CBTs. However, there is a knowledge gap concerning what CBTs are and how the different types of CBTs can be applied in sport. This knowledge gap is important to fill, because CBTs are highly effective and are easily integrated into the sport setting, and thus practitioners should be aware of, if not trained in, such approaches.Applying Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic Approaches in Sport is the first dedicated volume to bring together the dominant cognitive-behavioural approaches to sport psychology. This book includes state-of-the-art evidence regarding the theory and practice of CBTs in sport, produced by academic and applied leaders in the area. Chapters include key historical and theoretical information about the CBTs and intricate details as to how a range of CBTs are applieTable of ContentsIntroduction: An introduction to applying cognitive behavioural therapeutic approaches in sport Martin J.
