Tyndale House Publishers Chosen by God
Book SynopsisNearly 200,000 copies sold!Chosen by God by Dr. R. C. Sproul is a contemporary classic on predestination, a doctrine that isn't just for Calvinists. It is a doctrine for all biblical Christians. In this updated and expanded edition of Chosen by God, Sproul shows that the doctrine of predestination doesn't create a whimsical or spiteful picture of God, but rather paints a portrait of a loving God who provides redemption for radically corrupt humans. We choose God because he has opened our eyes to see his beauty; we love him because he first loved us. There is mystery in God's ways, but not contradiction.

SPCK Publishing Unbelievable Confident Faith In A Sceptical World
Book SynopsisBelieving and preaching authentic Christian faith in a world suspicious of truthTrade Review"Powerful, poignant and pertinent - the ambience of this scripturally sound apologetic is not that of the cold halls of a seminary but the warmth of a pastor’s heart. In 'Unbelievable' Malcolm Duncan touches both mind and spirit with a work that is as readable as it is credible. I wholeheartedly commend it.” -- Revd John Glass, General Superintendant, Elim“Malcolm Duncan powerfully and prophetically challenges the church to see this as an age of opportunity - not to be put on the back foot by the shaking of our cultural architecture, but to confidently contend for the faith as once delivered and boldly offer the unbelievable gospel as the hope for the world.” -- Revd Simon Ponsonby, Pastor of Theology, St Aldates Oxford'Malcolm has reached in depth into the Scriptures to endorse the truth and reality of the core of our beliefs as Christians. He calls for us to be confident but not arrogant witnesses of Jesus’ love to the world. This powerful book has given me renewed determination to continue to follow Christ wherever He leads me.” -- Fiona Castle“The author has done a commendable job in bringing us back to solid theology at a time the church would be wise to be more and more interested in sound teaching.” -- Dr R. T. Kendall“Unbelievable goes right to the heart of the big questions that now dominate the lives of Christians who are seeking to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ and witnesses to Him in today’s world.” -- Bishop Pete Broadbent, in his Foreword“Simply, comprehensively, winsomely and compassionately, Malcolm Duncan leads us through an ancient Creed that educates our minds, illuminates our hearts, and presents us with a vision of an unfathomable, unbeatable, unstoppable God.” -- Dr Steve Brady, Principal, Moorlands College, Christchurch“In exploring the Apostles’ Creed, Unbelievable roots us in the great truths of Scripture and in this we find a fresh confidence in the amazing God we serve and His purposes in the world.” -- Steve Clifford, General Director, Evangelical Alliance“Immensely accessible and helpful. I felt excitement burning in my heart as I imagined what the confident church could be, by the unfathomable Father, in the unbeatable Son and through the unstoppable Spirit. I’m a believer.” -- Abby Guinness, Spring Harvest Event Director“A call to regain a fully biblical faith, viewed through the lens of the Apostles’ Creed. A passionate call to authentic believing and living. An irresistible call to a confident yet humble faith in a gospel that still has the power to change the world!” -- Stephen Gaukroger, Director, Clarion Trust International“Deeply challenges and encourages. The Gospel is the hope for the world and Malcolm’s wonderfully written book gives every Christian greater confidence to share it.” -- Gavin Calver, National Director, Youth for Christ“A brilliant exposition. Biblical, readable, radical and practical – I loved it!” -- Lyndon Bowring, Executive Chairman, CARE“God-honouring; Christ-centred; Holy Spirit-inspired; Bible-based; robust; intrusive; and demanding some kind of response. Book SynopsisThe visionary account of how Klaus and his wife, under God, achieved the impossible: a top class hospital for some of the world's poorest people.Trade Review“As a scientist I am deeply interested in the evidences that study of the cosmos provides for the existence of God. However, I am not simply a theist but a Christian and one of the central Christian claims is that it is possible to have a living relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Hence part of the evidence for the truth of Christianity will be found in the testing of that claim in everyday life. The story of Diospi Suyana hospital is a remarkable example of what happens when people take God seriously and I heartily recommend this account as compelling evidence that there is a God who cares.” -- John Lennox, Professor of Mathematics, University of Oxford“Of course Klaus John believes in miracles. BRF (The Bible Reading Fellowship) Making Disciples in Messy Church
Book SynopsisThis is a book that helps church leaders think through how to go about creating long-term communities for those who go along to Messy Church. It gives church leaders the theology and practical steps for a longer-term strategy to ensure that Messy Church and those who come along are given the right nurturing environment to grow and flourish.Trade ReviewMessy Church is a gift from God, one of the Holy Spirit's wonderful surprises, where a step of faith by one very ordinary church has opened the way for more than a thousand others to engage with families who had no serious connection to a church. No one anticipated that the story publicised in the first Fresh Expressions DVD in 2006 would take on such a life of its own. Messy Church is now a movement in its own right, within the wider Fresh Expressions movement. This book, from Paul Moore, the vicar of that church, presents insights from the oldest member of this young family of churches. They are insights from which all who are committed to disciple-making can benefit. Those who have been unsure of Messy Church, who would like it to be less messy, and who wonder if it really is church, have frequently raised the question of discipleship. How can you possibly make disciples among all that mess, especially if you meet just once per month? On the contrary, I have always believed that Messy Church is as valid a fresh expression of church as any of the many other models and examples. Because of this, I have always been convinced that the secrets of making disciples through Messy Church lay within the gift itself, in the DNA of the original idea given by the Holy Spirit, and that they would emerge over time. The temptation to bolt on ideas from a different model in order to answer questions or solve apparent problems about disciple-making has always been misguided. It is also evidence of impatience. As the gift of Messy Church has been unwrapped during its early years, the secrets have begun to be revealed. The Messy Church world is not closed to learning from other sources. Paul draws helpfully from Scripture, from ancient tradition, from other mission practitioners and researchers, from educational theory and from the worldwide Messy family. But, above all, he draws from the underlying values of Messy Church. He tells us not so much how to make disciples through Messy Church as how to create Messy Church as a disciple-making culture, which is much more important. He sets realistic expectations about the time it takes to journey from no church connection to active faith. He robustly defends intergenerational learning. He wants parents equipped to take responsibility for their children's spiritual development, and team members to see Messy Church as their church, not just the place where they volunteer once a month. I suspect that there may be even more to be unpacked from this surprising gift over the coming years, but for now this will do very well. Bishop Graham Cray Archbishops' Missioner and Leader of the Fresh Expressions TeamWritten with clarity and conviction, Making Disciples in Messy Church is a timely and helpful book for a movement that is deeply serious about discipleship. Drawing on biblical, monastic and catechetical approaches, the book contains much wisdom and inspiration for those seeking to make disciples in all forms of church, not just the phenomenon that is Messy Church. The affirmation of the places of family and community in discipleship formation is especially welcome. I warmly and wholeheartedly commend this book. Andrew Roberts, Methodist Minister and Director of Training for Fresh ExpressionsDiscipleship is probably the biggest single issue the Church needs to grapple with in our present times. This book has some vital things to say on this central issue, not only to those interested in Messy Church but to all churches. My advice would be: read it, think about what you read and then apply it in your own situation. David Male, Director of the Centre for Pioneer Learning, CambridgeMessy Church is growing from a single fresh expression of church into a whole movement of mission. Making Disciples in Messy Church brings vital wisdom culled from scripture and from experience to all involved in making disciples. Its lessons are vital for all those engaged in Messy Church and for all those involved in making disciples. Steven Croft, Bishop of SheffieldThe Messy Church movement is fantastic, helping connect people to Christ and his church through community and creativity. Paul has been on the journey with Messy Church since the start, and in this fascinating book shows how Messy Church is not only reaching people with the Gospel, it is raising up disciples across the world. Canon Mark Russell, CEO Church Army A joy to read and a contemporary Epistle from a Paul of our time, Making Disciples in Messy Church is a timely and essential read for all who are serious about building upon the good connections to the local community made through Messy Church and seeking how to making disciples in our contemporary age. Stephen Lindridge, Fresh Expressions Methodist Connexional Missioner Paul Moore writes out of first-hand experience. To this he brings deeper and wider thought. The book brings disparate things together in one place: various frameworks to assess progress in discipleship, lively material from a wide range of Scripture, some ecumenical perspectives and sensible questions to ponder. It ends with solid practical suggestions and knocks on the head the critique that Messy Church has no answers to questions of discipleship. It deserves to be read and applied. Liturgical Press Prayer
Book SynopsisThis second volume on Eastern Christian spirituality amplifies in depth the final two chapters of the earlier The Spirituality of the Christian East: A Systematic Handbook. Like Cassian in writing his Conferences, Cardinal Spidlak does not advocate any particular pattern of prayer, but sets out faithfully to collect and share the teachings of generations of eastern monks and spiritual writers.Trade ReviewThis magnificent volume builds upon the first volume, The Spirituality of the Christian East: a Systematic Handbook, published in 1986. Here, Spidlik has once again shown himself to be a superlative scholar in his care and comprehensiveness. . . . The book concludes with a ‘selected bibliography’ that luxuriously runs to well over a hundred pages: this is itself worth the price of the book. A wonderfully detailed index of topics and one of names bring the book to an end.Logos: A Journal of Eastern Christian StudiesIf you want to learn about the richness and depths of Eastern Christian prayer and spirituality, theology, development and practice, then there is little doubt that his is one of the most comprehensive and authoritative books available in the English language.Shawn Tribe The New Liturgical Movement
