Book SynopsisHave you ever felt you tried every solution on earth to solve a problem, but nothing worked? Have you ever wondered where the difficulties you face are coming from? Joyce Meyer has answers. In Your Battles Belong to the Lord, Meyer explains that once you recognize the devil - who is real and active in the world today - as your true enemy and the source of many of your struggles, you can overcome them and live a life of peace, freedom, faith and victory. When facing life's battles, there are certain things you must do for yourself, such as being diligent to study and apply God's Word, trusting Him, praying, helping others, and maintaining a positive attitude and a thankful heart. But there are other things only God can do. When you do your part, God does His - and He is always ready and eager to defend you and help you.In this fresh approach to the subject of spiritual warfare, Meyer focuses not only on the nature and strategies of the enemy, but also on the power and love of God, who always defeats the enemy and leads you to triumph. No matter how difficult your challenges are, if you have God with you, you have all you need to win every battle.

  • Where Prayer Becomes Real – How Honesty with God

Baker Publishing Group Where Prayer Becomes Real – How Honesty with God

    1 in stock

Book SynopsisIf we're honest, most of us feel bored, distracted, or discouraged in prayer. We look for resources to give us the "right" words or teach us the "right" technique and are disappointed when they don't seem to help. What we fail to realize is that prayer isn't a place for us to be good or right, and it isn't a place for us to perform or prove our worth. It's a place for us to be honest, present, and known--a place for us to offer ourselves and receive God. Spiritual formation experts Kyle Strobel and John Coe want to show you what you've been missing when it comes to prayer. In this down-to-earth book, they show you how to fearlessly draw near to a holy God, pray without ceasing (and without posturing), and delight in the experience of being fully known and fully loved. Each chapter ends with prayer projects or practices to help you see a difference in your prayer life, starting now.

Book Synopsis2022 Book of the Year Award, Academy of Parish Clergy Nearly everyone knows someone on the autism spectrum, whether it's a niece or nephew, a student in their classroom, a coworker, or a sibling, spouse, or child. One in 54 children has autism, according to the CDC, and autism is reported across racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups. Yet most of what people think they know about autism is wrong. On the Spectrum debunks myths with a realistic yet hope-filled deep dive into the heart, mind, and life of a Christian. Daniel Bowman, a novelist, poet, and professor, received an autism diagnosis at age thirty-five after experiencing crises in his personal and professional life. The diagnosis shed light on his experience in a new, life-giving way. In this captivating book, Bowman reveals new insights into autism, relationships, faith, and the gift of neurodiversity. Rather than viewing autism as a deficiency, Bowman teaches readers--through stories of his heartbreaks and triumphs--authentic ways to love their neighbors as themselves, including their autistic neighbors who are fearfully and wonderfully, if differently, made.Table of ContentsContentsPrelude: You Always Hurt the Ones You LoveFoundationsWhy You Should Read This Book (and How)Diversity and DignitySpeaking the WordsA Portrait of the Autist as a Young ManThe Neurodiversity ParadigmPlaceLiving MapsAutistic Culture MakingRiding while AutisticCommunity, Worship, and ServiceAutism and ChurchShining like the SunService and the SpectrumDancing in Fields of Wheat and TaresWriting, Teaching, and LearningAutism and PoetryThe Insidious Nature of Bad Christian StoriesBeautiful LoserMeaning and EstrangementThe Tracks of My TearsFamily and IdentityA True NameLoving the ExpansePeace in TerabithiaSpectrum InterviewsInterview by MollyInterview by JennaInterview by BrianNew DirectionsFalling and Autistic RepresentationTherefore Let Us Keep the FeastSEND and the Future of Neurodiversity

  • Endless Grace – Prayers Inspired by the Psalms

Baker Publishing Group Endless Grace – Prayers Inspired by the Psalms

    3 in stock

Book SynopsisEndless Grace helps us rediscover the rich treasures of the Psalms--through free-verse prayer renderings of their poems and hymns--as a guide to personal devotion and meditation. The church has always used the Psalms as part of its prayer life, and they have inspired countless other prayers. This book contains seventy-five prayers drawn from Psalms 76-150, providing lyrical sketches of what authors Ryan Whitaker Smith and Dan Wilt have seen, heard, and felt while sojourning in the Psalms. While each prayer corresponds to a particular psalm and touches on its themes and ideas, it is not a new translation of the Psalms or an attempt to modernize or contextualize their content or language. Rather, the prayers are responses to the Psalms written in harmony with Scripture. These prayers help us quiet our hearts before God and remember the Lord's daily mercies. This artful, poetic, and classic devotional book features compelling custom illustrations and beautiful hardcover binding, offering a fresh way to reflect on and pray the Psalms.Table of ContentsContentsIntroductionPsalm 76: Your New WorldPsalm 77: I RememberPsalm 78: Sanctified MemoryPsalm 79: Table of MercyPsalm 80: The Seed of Your PlantingPsalm 81: Wellspring of PraisePsalm 82: Justice at LastPsalm 83: The Good FightPsalm 84: RestlessPsalm 85: The Face of God in ChristPsalm 86: In TimePsalm 87: City of GodPsalm 88: Hope beyond the GravePsalm 89: The Love of ChristPsalm 90: A New BeginningPsalm 91: Abide in ChristPsalm 92: Song of My LifePsalm 93: Everlasting GodPsalm 94: A Blight upon the EarthPsalm 95: Wellspring of WorshipPsalm 96: Beauty and GrandeurPsalm 97: The Lord Rules and ReignsPsalm 98: New SongsPsalm 99: Holy, Holy, HolyPsalm 100: Holy GroundPsalm 101: I Wait for YouPsalm 102: Wind-ScatteredPsalm 103: Praise UninhibitedPsalm 104: Canvas of CreationPsalm 105: God of the StoryPsalm 106: Counted among ThemPsalm 107: God of ZionPsalm 108: Spectacle of PraisePsalm 109: Rise to My DefensePsalm 110: AdonaiPsalm 111: World of WonderPsalm 112: The Reward of Those Who Seek YouPsalm 113: Lord of LifePsalm 114: Out of SlaveryPsalm 115: Gather Up the PraisePsalm 116: Finished WorkPsalm 117: Be Praised!Psalm 118: Your Kindness Has No EndPsalm 119: The Word, the Wisdom, of GodPsalm 120: Sacred BenedictionPsalm 121: Keeper of My SoulPsalm 122: Coming KingdomPsalm 123: When I See YouPsalm 124: Where Would I Be?Psalm 125: Womb of the SpiritPsalm 126: Uncontainable JoyPsalm 127: Lord of This HousePsalm 128: The Way of BlessingPsalm 129: I Have ConfidencePsalm 130: The Word of Your PromisePsalm 131: In Your ArmsPsalm 132: Your Servant DavidPsalm 133: So Very GoodPsalm 134: A Prayer for Those in MinistryPsalm 135: Lord of PraisePsalm 136: Glory BePsalm 137: Heart in ExilePsalm 138: I Choose YouPsalm 139: Known by YouPsalm 140: Desecrated PlacePsalm 141: Endless StrugglePsalm 142: A Listening EarPsalm 143: Word of ComfortPsalm 144: Fit for the FightPsalm 145: The Way of MercyPsalm 146: Lavish GracePsalm 147: My Joy, My Delight, My SongPsalm 148: All Is YoursPsalm 149: Gospel KingPsalm 150: Sheltering Mercy, Endless Grace

  • Spurgeon’s Sorrows: Realistic Hope for those who

Christian Focus Publications Ltd Spurgeon’s Sorrows: Realistic Hope for those who

    2 in stock

Book SynopsisChristians should have the answers, shouldn’t they? Depression affects many people both personally and through the ones we love. Here Zack Eswine draws from C.H Spurgeon, ‘the Prince of Preachers’ experience to encourage us. What Spurgeon found in his darkness can serve as a light in our own darkness. Zack Eswine brings you here, not a self–help guide, rather ‘a handwritten note of one who wishes you well.’Trade ReviewI highly recommend this book. It will help Christians at every stage of their Christian life to understand how to help those who often suffer in silence with depression and discouragement. This book will also help those who do struggle with discouragement and depression with the gospel. This is a must read book for pastors, counselors, biblical counselors to learn how to walk with those who struggle with discouragement and depression. This excellent book will bring much encouragement, comfort, and practical help to strugglers and ministers alike -- Dave Jenkins- Servants of GraceZack Eswine's beautifully crafted Spurgeon's Sorrows is poetry for the soul. Weaving Spurgeon's acquaintance with depression with his own, Zack gives language to the honest struggle of the weary. He kindly invites sufferers, and their fellow sojourners, to breathe what is true, offering grace-filled help and real hope. An exquisite book. -- Patti Hawley (Licensed Professional Counselor; Faculty Adjunct, Covenant Theological Seminary, St Louis, Missouri)Zack Eswine, like Spurgeon, a preacher, pastor, and no stranger to suffering... there is much encouragement, comfort and practical help to be found in this rich and poetic treasure. -- Richard Winter (Author of When Life Goes Dark: Finding Hope in the Midst of Depression, Director of Counseling at Covenant Theological Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri )I highly recommend this book for all believers. The wisdom examined by Eswine from the pen of Charles Spurgeon regarding depression is outstanding and will greatly help those suffering from this issue to begin to grab hold of Jesus who suffered as we did, even to the point of death on a cross. I know I learned much about depression and how to help those suffering from this pain in their life. Look to the man of sorrows for he cares for you. That was the approach Spurgeon took and it is the correct one. -- Mike BolingWhat a comfort to know that a great man was very human, a "man of like passions." The grace that came through his preaching also lifted his soul. It is a comfort to be reminded of that great grace. -- Leighton Ford (President, Leighton Ford Ministries, Charlotte, North Carolina)The river of life often flows through sloughs of despond. Charles Spurgeon knew that well... Ditto Zack Eswine in this unusual, refreshing, sensible book... Read it, and take it to heart. -- David Powlison ((1949–2019) CCEF Executive Director, Senior Editor, Journal of Biblical Counseling)In an age of quick answers Spurgeon speaks beyond the grave with heart-felt understanding and solace. Those who know the pain of such suffering find in these pages a level of succour for the soul which both normalizes and gives hope...a rare insight into the experience of a ubiquitous problem. -- Margaret Reynolds (Counselor and Co-Founder of Grace Counselling & Conciliation Services, Auckland, New Zealand)I like Zack Eswine's writing. In Spurgeon's Sorrows Eswine sensitively considers the experience of depression, using Charles Spurgeon's experiences and writings as a reference point. Such are the variations in depression I'm loathe to generalise or make it look like there are universal treatments that will bring relief. It's not a long book, but it is sensitive and constructive -- Gary WarePastors, fellow strugglers, spiritual friends, counsellors, caring church members, and you...will find your own soul enriched and, consequently, more effectively equipped to wisely love others through the dark, foggy valleys that believers of all ages have travelled. -- Paul Tautges (Senior Pastor, Cornerstone Community Church, Cleveland, Ohio and Author of 'Comfort the Grieving')Most Christian books on depression depress me. This book is a very rare and precious gift of encouragement and help. In it two godly pastor-scholars open up their lives to us and share their hearts. Both have suffered profoundly and both have known seasons of deep despair and darkness. Together they bring us God's word, helping us wrestle with the scary fact that our Heavenly Father loves us dearly and sometimes calls us to lifelong struggles with dark despair. I wish I could give this book to everyone I have ever counselled or ever will counsel. It gives us a life-changing, gospel-saturated perspective on this very prevalent, painful, and confusing problem. -- Barbara Duguid (Author, Extravagant Grace)...Poetic, poignant, and platitude-free, this shimmering treasure of a book may literally save your life or the life of someone you love. -- Ken Shigematsu (Pastor of Tenth Church and best-selling Author of God in My Everything, Vancouver)You can almost taste Spurgeon's tears in this book... Eswine's gentle, poetic, unmasking of Spurgeon's inner turmoil may become a soothing balm for your soul. It may not heal you, but a healthy empathy emerges when you read about the struggles of a man who has walked down the same dark alleys you stumble along, and somehow found God in the valley of despair. If you don't struggle with depression yourself, it will help you love those who do! -- Jeremy McQuoid (Teaching Pastor, Deeside Christian Fellowship, Aberdeen, Scotland and Chair of Council, Keswick Ministries)Eswine's writing about depression is some of the most accessible-dare I say beautiful-that I have read... I hope many Christians will read, learn from, and treasure the hope celebrated in this book. It is a tenderly written book from the heart of one who knows that "the sorrowing have a Savior." -- A Wonderful Providence BlogThere are few men I trust more to write a book on depression than Zack Eswine. His tears have freed me to embrace my tears, and his story of heartache has taken me further into my own. So Zack hasn't merely written a book chronicling Spurgeon's often debilitating struggles with melancholy and depression; he has given us a grace-full en ramp to understand our sorrows, and an incredibly practical guide for caring for heart-pained friends God places in our lives. I cannot wait to buy many copies of this book to give to strugglers and care-givers alike. -- Scotty Ward Smith (Founding Pastor, Christ Community Church, Franklin, Tennessee )The words 'realistic hope' are in the subtitle, and that is exactly what this book offers. The writing style is winsome and the way he frames Spurgeon's quotes almost make it sound as if the great man was writing last week. -- Evangelical Magazine of Wales (Published by Evangelical Movement of Wales)Zack Eswine is a pastor with the mind of a scholar and the heart of a poet. His wisdom gleaned from Charles Spurgeon's struggle with depression is theologically profound and pastorally lucid. -- Jason Byassee (Senior Pastor, Boone United Methodist Church, Boone, North Carolina )...Spurgeon from early years to final days found dark distress ever hovering on the edges of his mind and sometimes launching an all out assault on his very being. How he managed all this, by the grace of God, both for himself and for others, drives both the gripping content and the riveting literary style of Zack Eswine in Spurgeon's Sorrows. -- Tom Nettles (Senior Professor of Historical Theology, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky)This book was the best book I have ever read on depression. If you know anyone or you yourself struggle with depression, this book is such an incredible encouragement. It is well worth the time. Even if you have never met anyone who struggles with depression, this book is great for your library because you will probably know a depressed person at some time. This book was was timely for me. I cried as I read through it because it was such balm to my weary soul. I highlighted so many things that were used to heal my heart in ways I desperately needed. I cannot recommend a book more highly. -- Refresh My Soul Blog Spurgeon's Sorrows is biography meets pastoral exhortation. In taking us through the suffering of CH Spurgeon, Eswine encourages the reader to heed the words and life of this hero of the faith. Pastors deal with enormous emotional struggles by bearing the burdens of an entire flock and standing on the frontline of spiritual warfare. Couple that with personal tragedy and a predisposed temperament towards melancholy and the struggle grows exponentially. Enter Charles Spurgeon. Eswine uses the events of Spurgeon's life and ministry to help the reader try to understand depression, to help those with depression, and to cope with it ourselves. This book is full of wisdom and grace and will serve the Church well. It is short and easy to read and deserves a broad audience. Spurgeon's Sorrows bears the subtitle of "Realistic Hope for those who Suffer from Depression." It offers that and so much more. -- Josh SkinnerEswine's work demonstrates the value of reading biographies, old books, and sermons. Interacting with godly men and women from church history can be a vital aid to Christian maturity. He handles Spurgeon carefully, yet provocatively at points, and produces a volume that promises to help pastors and laypeople confront the sad terror of the dark night of the soul. -- The Gospel CoalitionFor those struggling with depression and assuming they are confined to the sidelines because of their mental health, Spurgeon's example should serve as a great encouragement. Spurgeon knew what to do when the lights were on. And after awhile he knew how to take time off in the midst of darkness. We've much to learn here. Eswine's book is poetic and mercifully short. There are sentences and paragraphs throughout that are life-giving. The writing is compelling and the type of language which resonates with one in the pit. To this end I pray that many who are battling depression will read this book and hold onto these tiny morsels. -- Mike Leake

Book SynopsisA labyrinth is a pattern consisting of a single circuitous path that winds into the centre, with no possibility of getting lost, as in a maze, and no dead ends. It is one of the most ancient tools for spiritual growth and development, dating back to medieval Christianity, and is currently enjoying a popular revival, especially in contemporary 'Fresh Expressions' of church. As an effective focus for prayer and worship, labyrinths - temporary and permanent - are increasingly found in traditional and alternative church communities and at festivals like Greenbelt. This book provides a complete guide for beginner and seasoned labyrinth explorer alike. An accessible and inviting illustrated guide, it: traces the history of labyrinths in the Christian spiritual tradition, explores the different ways groups and individuals can use a labyrinth for prayer and reflection, gives instructions for creating small and large, simple and complex, temporary and permanent, indoor and outdoor labyrinths based on the most well known designs - e.g Chartres, Rouen and Amien cathedrals, and it provides outlines for spiritual exercises using the labyrinth.

Book SynopsisWHERE DO YOU PUT YOUR TRUST? We all believe in something. We all put our faith in what we trust will sustain us and help us move ahead. For some of us, that might be a relationship or a job. For others, it could be an education, a financial portfolio, or a political platform. But the disciple John, in his Gospel, invites us to put our belief in something much more secure. As he states, “These things [in my Gospel] are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31).In this six-session video Bible study, bestselling author and pastor Kyle Idleman reveals that John didn’t write his Gospel just to tell us about a profound teacher or a powerful miracle worker. Rather, his purpose was to tell us about the very Son of God who came to this earth so that we “may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10). John challenges us to
