Templar Publishing The Pirates Next Door
Book SynopsisThe Jolley-Rogers - a pirate family, are moving to Dull-on-Sea, a quiet seaside town. Stopping to fix up their ship, this unusual family get the whole neighbourhood spreading rumours. Defying the grown-ups, Matilda from next door decides to become friends with the youngest pirate son. When the Jolley-Rogers leave, the town discovers they were wrong to assume the worst - the pirate clan have buried treasure in everyone's gardens (shown in a stunning double-gatefold). Matilda feels sad until she discovers her own treasure - an incredibly exciting new pen friend.Trade ReviewCaptain Duddle is the undisputed king of pirate picture books and the Jolley Rogers are unleashing merry mayhem on the poor, unsuspecting residents of sleepy seaside town Dull-on-Sea. With belly laughs throughout and lots of funny details to spot on each page, it's an absolute tricorn (that's a pirate hat, don't you know?) triumph. Look out for their wooden-legged dog and COMING SOON Jolley Rogers fiction for younger readers. -- WRD * WRD Books *The Pirates Next Door tells the tale of Matilda, a little girl who lives in a gloomy seaside town, Dull-on-Sea. One day, new neighbours move in next door - a family of pirates, taking a break from the seas to fix their ship.Matilda thinks it's fantastic to have such exciting neighbours, especially a young lad her age, Jim, who's dressed in a pirate bandanna and an eye-patch. However, her mum, dad and the other neighbours are not so impressed with these new residents, The Jolley-Rogers, and tell her they'd rather she was friends with "normal girls and boys".The other residents accuse the pirates of terrorising the neighbourhood, being dirty and having lice, and their ship being full of rats. However, Matilda still insists on sitting next to Jonny at school as she thinks he's "cool". He tells her the pirates are used to this kind of reaction whenever they come to land - and when they finally depart, the neighbours discover just how wrong they were about the pirates after all. That might make the book sound a bit worthy. And while it does have a message about tolerance and prejudice, it's subtly hidden in an adventurous tale, written in wonderful rhyming verse and accompanied by vividly detailed and engaging illustrations. It's a lot longer than other picture books, so age-wise I'd say it would appeal to children of three and above, with a reading age from 6 or 7. I asked Little Miss E, age 5, and Little Man O, 3.5, what they thought of the book and while it was the humour and the pictures that really impressed them, they quickly understood the message about not judging people and always being kind. This is a fun and adventurous book with wonderfully-detailed illustrations and fast-paced, descriptive verse that you will be happy to read time and again. We highly recommend it. * Cardiff Mummy *

Wordsworth Editions Ltd Treasure Island
Book SynopsisTreasure Island is the seminal pirates and buried treasure novel, which is so brilliantly concocted that it appeals to readers both young and old. The story is told in the first person by young Jim Hawkins, whose mother keeps the Admiral Benbow Inn. An old seadog, a resident at the inn, hires Jim to keep a watch out for other sailors whom he fears but, despite all precautions, the old man is served with the black spot which means death. Among the dead man's belongings Jim discovers a map showing the location of the buried treasure of the notorious pirate Captain Flint. It is not long before he, along with Doctor Livesey and Squire Trelawney, sets sail to find the treasure. However, amongst the hired hands is the one-legged Long John Silver who has designs on the treasure for himself. The continuing fascination with this tale of high drama, buried treasure and treachery bears out what Stevenson wrote about the book to his friend W. E. Henley: 'if this don’t fetch the kids, why, they have gone rotten since my day.' The book not only continues to 'fetch the kids' but the grown-ups too – in fact all those with the spirit of adventure in their hearts.

Siege and Storm? An exception. It is a squillion times better than Shadow and Bone... I adore the writing - it's so lyrical, so beautiful, yet so modern and witty and funny. I love this blend of classic fairytale and modern day. And it always seems to leave me wanting more! And the plot was amazing too. It was just nonstop action, nonstop thrills, nonstop suspense and nonstop excitement. I gobbled it up, falling harder in love each time. And then having my heart totally broken. Numerous times... You know, if I didn't need sleep and food and stuff... -- The Book Addicted Girl * GUARDIAN TEEN BOOKS * Wow, wow, wow - that's all I can say. Siege and Storm only confirms that Leigh Bardugo is a must-read author for all teenage bookworms and fantasy fans! Set in a beautiful and magical fictional land, the novel draws you in with its vivid imagery and unique array of characters... If you haven't entered the world of Grisha yet, then why on earth not?! I mean, you know a novel is superb when words fail you and you just can't coherently speak anymore... right? * FEED ME BOOKS NOW * Leigh Bardugo, you sure know how to involve your readers and make them an emotional wreck. Siege and Storm is an enthralling sequel that seriously ups the game and expectations of the reader. It is written so beautifully that is flows flawlessly while keeping the magic alive in the readers mind. If you want to read a fantasy series that has a truly unique world then read this series. * READ WRITE AND READ SOME MORE * I wrote a piece here gushing about why the Grisha series is so different and so special. There are many small reasons that all come together to create the awesomeness. But there are also many more that I can't even explain. Maybe it is different because it is just magic. It has the most exquisitely constructed world, the best-written characters, the most amazing writing and storyline. And it always always always leaves me desperate for more. It always leaves me aching, foaming at the mouth, for more: right now. And that, perhaps, is why it is so special. It is magic. It is beautiful. It is perfect. Well, except for that cliffhanger. How am I meant to make it a whole year with that hanging over my head?! * THE BOOK ADDICTED GIRL * I was away on the ships and wandering through Ravka with Alina and Mal, I was on the receiving end of his kisses and his annoyances. I felt the sun warm the pages whenever Alina summoned and I felt the fear when The Darkling was around. There is nothing I don't love about the world in which the Grisha trilogy is set and I cannot wait until next year to see how this series is going to conclude. * READARAPTOR * Siege and Storm carries on the fantastic plot which was so intricately carved in book one, and the writing continues to be clever, funny and heartbreaking all at the same time. This book will have you laughing one minute and an emotional wreck the next, as Alina's powers are pushed to the limit and her relationships are tested to breaking point. I for one cannot wait for the third and final book. * BOOK CHICK CITY *
