Templar Publishing Maps
Book SynopsisExplore the world with this lavish book of maps. This collection of 52 highly illustrated maps details not only geographical features and political borders, but also places of interest, iconic personalities, native animals and plants, local peoples, cultural events, and many more fascinating facts associated with each region. This book is a celebration of the world, from its immense mountains to its tiny insects - and everything in between!Trade ReviewThe 52 illustrated maps in this book invite the reader on a journey of exploration around the world. Opening with an original style of contents page, consisting of a world map with countries labelled with the pages where information can be found, the atlas is divided into eight sections, looking at countries within each continent plus the Arctic and Antarctica. Not every country in, fro example Africa or South America, is included, but, those that are, give a flavour of the variety to be found there. I like the way that the European section travels southwards from Iceland, which means that countries such as Croatia and Romania are given equal space alongside the perhaps more familiar France and Spain. There is a dearth of information about some of these places (publishers tend to concentrate on what they see as the 'main' countries), particularly for young children. This book would have been very welcome at my school last term when Iceland was included in the Year 1 topic of Around the World! Each large, intricately detailed double page spread features fascinating facts, places of interest, wildlife and important people, all of which could provide a springboard for discussion and further research. This is an innovative approach to geography which will keep young and not so young, discoverers coming back again and again to pore over the quirky, delightful drawings. A must for the primary library or classroom; every page provides a good display opportunity! -- Jayne Gould * The School Librarian Journal *The tagline on this gorgeous book promises you can 'Travel the globe without leaving your living room' and, for the armchair traveller this surely is the most fun way of doing so.The book of 52 brilliantly illustrated maps is a visual feast for readers of all ages, with lavishly meticulous drawings from Polish duo Aleksandra and Daniel Mizielinski. It details not only borders, cities, rivers and peaks but also places of historical and cultural interest, eminent personalities, iconic animals and plants. Released by wonderful new publishing house, Big Picture Press, MAPS is part of a series created by a stellar list of artists, eachtitle being design-led, and being a joy for children and adult design-lovers alike. * Cotswold Life *While we have a lot of books in our house, we realised recently that we didn't have a lot of reference books. As children, we both loved stumbling across a book too heavy to even lift, let alone open and read; a book full of facts and numbers; a book whose story you discovered through its ideas rather than its prose. So, when we both laid eyes on Maps by Aleksandra and Daniel Mizielinski, we got really excited. Sure enough, it's a huge book that has little to no chance of ever fitting on a bookshelf and it is full of facts beautifully presented. Every turn of the page presents a new country and a whole set of stories. The book invites you to 'Travel the globe without leaving your living room'. That is not a boast; you really get a strong sense of each country and feel like you've really been on a journey if you read it cover to cover. As book lovers, we often experience the feeling of traveling without leaving a room. Books have the wonderful ability to transport you all around the world and beyond. What makes Maps so special, aside from its fantastic and unique illustrations and fun and quirky facts, is the sheer atmosphere it creates and the feeling of discovery you get from turning its pages.Maps is a truly one-of-a-kind reference book for all ages and I urge you to take the trip to your local bookstore, and then sit back and travel the globe...from your couch! -- Daniel Morrfew * Fable Patch Tree *Much more than an ordinary atlas, this book of maps is a visual feast for readers of all ages, with lavishly drawn illustrations from the incomparable Mizielinskis. It features not only borders, cities, rivers, and peaks, but also places of historical and cultural interest, eminent personalities, iconic animals and plants, cultural events and many more fascinating facts associated with every region of our planet. * Scottish Book Trust *This is a book I coveted as soon as I clapped eyes on it... The illustrations are engrossing with the right amount of detail (avoiding information overkill). It is a book that invites you to brood, browse - and travel. -- Kate Kellaway * The Guardian *A great first atlas for kids... * Lonely Planet Traveller *My family all love maps so this delightful book called Maps by Aleksandra Mizielinska and Daniel Mizielinski and published by @bigpicturepress has had us enthralled. With 52 highly illustrated maps featuring geographical features as well as places of interest, political borders, native animals and plants, people, cultural events and many more facts I think I think I could look at this book every day and still find something new to look at.The oversized coffee table book has double page spreads of each map, beginning with a world map then split into continents, with maps from a selection of countries from that continent behind the continent map. The continent maps are more basic than the country maps, but still include facts like the number of countries, the area and sealife. The country pages are very detailed and all include the flag, capital city, the languages spoken, population, and area as well as a host of other illustrations about the country including the wildlife, food, buildings, famous people and many more.I've spent a lot of looking at the pages with my nephew aged 7 and he has been fascinated with the book. The detail in the book is simply amazing and it really has captured his imagination. I love books like this that that introduce geography and culture to children without them realising that they are actually learning! The illustrations are fantastic and there is so much to see on each page, I especially like that every item is properly named whether it be a fish, fruit, tree or flower. There is also a Flags of the World section of the book which is a great teaching aid. With so much to see this book would make a lovely Christmas gift and will certainly keep everyone entertained after Christmas lunch! * Review Studio UK *

Denton's manic cartooning captures every twist and turn in hilarious detail, as babies are pelted with garbage, yapping dogs squashed, and monkeys catapulted into the distance. -- Publishers Weekly, on 13-Storey TreehouseFull of crazy, funny pictures, which will make you laugh . . . Extremely enjoyable, very funny and easy to read! -- SophieStarlight * Guardian.com *Especially good for reluctant readers as it is heavily illustrated and VERY funny . . . This really is the coolest treehouse ever! * Angels & Urchins *Packed with cartoons and craziness * Sunday Express *This book is about friends Andy and a Terry that live in a really cool 13-storey treehouse, with cool things like a bowling alley, games room and secret lab. They invent things and write things; Andy does the writing and Terry does the pictures. I could read this book on my own without assistance. I read it pretty quickly as it was really interesting and funny, so I wanted to keep reading it. I liked there was chapters, so I could read to the end of the chapter and knew where I was picking up, and each chapter was a good length. I liked at the end of the book there were fun things to do; a word search, maze, spot the difference, a quiz and jokes. The black and white illustrations helped bring the book to life. Chapter 7 the monster mermaid, maybe be scary to some readers. The pictures of the monster aren't really scary, but what is written might scare some; talks about eating people, but goes into detail; ripping limbs, crushing heads etc, so a bit gruesome. One chapter has one word all the way through, which was silly but funny. The friends get up to some crazy things, an enjoyable book. -- Toppsta Reviewer, on 13-Storey TreehouseMy son absolutely adores this whole series of books. They are hilariously funny but so imaginative and creative. I've recommended them to so many people and haven't yet found a child who doesn't love them. This first book sets the scene with Andy and Terry - the characters and authors/illustrators - living in a treehouse with 13 stories who are meant to be writing a book but keep getting distracted by an endless stream of hilarious madness. * Toppsta Reviewer *I bought this book (the first in a series) on the basis of many positive reviews. Having now read it, I know my decision is vindicated. It's funny, hugely imaginative and has LOTS of pictures. What child would not want a treehouse with see-through swimming pool, lemonade fountain, games room, bowling alley and marshmallow machine? Besides, this one is also home to book-making duo Andy, the writer, and Terry, the illustrator. But story-making isn't always straightforward, especially when there are gorillas to contend with. No matter, flying cats to the rescue! And when the story is over, there are still jokes, a spot-the-difference, a maze, wordsearch and treehouse triva to enjoy.Children with the latest brain-to-brain-information technology will be able to read it; others will have to ask for it at the library or a bookshop. They will also want to visit http://www.andygriffiths.com.au/ for loads more fun and the latest from author Andy Griffiths. -- Toppsta Reviewer, on 13-Storey TreehouseBrilliant series and if you haven't read them yet why not? Start at the beginning and work through them all. Laugh out loud funny and I love reading about all the things they have in their treehouse. * Toppsta Reviewer *I bought the set of these after reading the other Toppsta reviews. My son read this book solidly in one day. He has LOVED it, the mix of text and illustrations is ideal for this age range, I could hear him laughing away to himself whilst he was reading it, although I'm not convinced he followed the whole story, he has since read most of it again (as we were out and the next one was at home) A fabulous buy that will be read time and time again. * Toppsta Reviewer *This is silly and fun and a great book to encourage of love of reading in young children. I read this to my 5 year old daughter and months later she still makes reference to a scene in the book. She is a strong reader for her age and wanted to get the other books in the series. She started reading more bits of them herself before devouring the 65 and 78-storey treehouse books entirely by herself. The 78-Storey Treehouse she read in one sitting. She can't wait for the 91-Storey Treehouse to come out later this year. * Toppsta Reviewer *

Abrams Ada Twist Scientist
Book SynopsisA story of the power of curiosity in the hands of a child on a mission to use science to understand her worldTrade Review"Ada Twist is my hero. She’s a smart, curious young girl who doesn’t talk unless she’s got something clever to say, and she thinks like a scientist – always wanting to find out the truth for herself rather than accept someone else’s say so. Plus, she wreaks havoc with her hair-brained experiments. I cannot stress strongly enough that this is not a book only for girls. A New York Times bestseller, from a series by Andrea Beaty and David Roberts that also includes Iggy Peck, Architect and Rosie Revere, Engineer, it is a great book for all pre-schoolers that happens to promote the revolutionary notion that women can do science." Independent.co.uk "A smart, funny, and gorgeously designed picture book that offers a brilliant role-model for kids in Ada." Buzzfeed 'Ada Marie Twist is a true little rebel and, like the pioneering scientists she is named after (Marie Curie and Ada Lovelace), a fantastic feminist role model.' Books for Keeps 'Written in playful rhyming verse, it's joyfully illustrated by the genius of David Roberts.' Huffington Post 'David Roberts provides plenty of visual humour as a backdrop to this kick-ass story of a young girl with a determined spirit and a thirst for knowledge. There aren't many storybooks around for little future scientists, but this is the book that I wanted to show my nieces so that they could learn that, whatever their ambitions, curiosity can lead them forward.' Lounge Books 'Ada Twist, Scientist is the worthy winner of the KSl category in this year's Teach Primary New Children's Fiction Awards, featuring Andrea Beatty's fizzy and joyful rhyming narrative, and an opportunity for keen-eyed youngsters to spot evidence cleverly placed in David Roberts' illustrations that even Ada herself has yet to discover.' --Teach Primary magazine "The endlessly inquisitive heroine of this brilliant picture book seeks to discover the answers to these questions and more! The rollicking rhyming text is as energetic as Ada herself, and the illustrations are packed with ingeniously entertaining detail courtesy of none other than long-time friend of Scoop, David Roberts." Scoop 'Ada Twist, Scientist is the tale of a persistently curious young girl in this brilliant picture book, written by Andrea Beaty and illustrated by David Roberts [...] This is definitely one of my favourite children's books of 2016. I think you'll be hard pressed to find a more satisfying example of a picture book to enjoy' --Sam Hearn, author 'This is a beautifully illustrated rhyming story about a family learning to support a child's curiosity. Ada is a likeable character who has all the traits of a great scientist. The book responds well to the call for greater representation of girls and diversity in STEM subjects and industries (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Indeed Andrea Beaty says she took her inspiration from Ada Lovelace, the mathematician and very first computer programmer, and Marie Curie, who discovered the elements polonium and radium, whose work led to the invention of X-rays. The book is fun to read and should inspire children to follow their passions.' The English Association ' 'Ada Twist is a stereotype-smashing tale which celebrates the power of curiosity and scientific enquiry.' --The Little Rebels Children's Book Award
