Christian Focus Publications Ltd Fighting Wolves
Book SynopsisWolves have had a bit of a P.R. campaign lately. If fairy tales were being written today the wolf would save the three little pigs and escort Little Red Riding Hood to safety. But it wasn't always like that. People in the days of the early church saw wolves as wild predators. That's why the Apostle Paul described the false teachers who sought to destroy Christians as 'savage wolves'. There was great danger in the early church of those false teachers leading Christians into error by teaching lies. So let's go to the very early years of the church to discover the names of those people who fought for and against God's truth. Characters included: The Apostle James;Basil the Great; Ambrose of Milan; John Chrysostom; Simeon Stylites, Monica of Hippo; Augustine.

Christian Focus Publications Ltd Tough Questions About the Bible
Book SynopsisHave you ever asked "Why did God allow Adam and Eve to sin? Why did he create mosquitoes? What is God's plan for me?" Sometimes we have really tough questions. We wonder if there is anyone who can give us an answer. Some questions are about life, some are about death - some of them are even about God. How can we get answers to questions about God and the Bible? Well - one way is to read the Bible - the Word of God. Joel Beeke helps us by taking our questions about life, death, sin, salvation and many other topics we can find confusing and teaching us what God says in his Word. Sometimes we have tough questions, sometimes we don't get the answers we want or expect, but the Word of God is faithful and we can trust that what we need to know, God will reveal to us.Children from a variety of backgrounds have come up with the questions in this book and Joel Beeke has done his best to answer these in the light of God's Word. These are real questions from real children in real life situations - and a real pastor with a genuine concern for their souls takes them to the one true God and the real gospel.Trade Review"This book will provide a useful tool in family worship or daily reading, as well as a springboard for further exploration of these important topics." -- Simonetta Carr (Author)"Kids ask the toughest questions and who hasn't been caught wondering how to answer? I can think of no one better to answer the toughest of questions than Joel Beeke. Thoughtfully written, pastorally sensitive, biblically based, gospel-centered, Christ-exalting material of the best sort. [Truth is, grown ups will profit from these answers, too!" -- Derek W. H. Thomas (Senior Minister of Preaching and Teaching, First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, South Carolina)"With the wisdom of a tender shepherd, Joel Beeke leaves no stone unturned as he tackles weighty questions children ask... Christian Focus Publications Ltd Messages From Grandad: Encouragement for a Young
Book Synopsis“What about making it a New Year resolution to write each other every few weeks?” And so it begins – an amazing year’s worth of correspondence between one elderly gentleman and his young grandchild. Issues and questions that every young Christian has to tackle are dealt with in a warm but direct way. This book is an essential bit of kit for the 21st century young apologist – or simply anyone who wants to face up to the world. Trade ReviewThis book is full of good advice written in a very gentle way to explain to a young Christian how to defend their faith and how to live it out in a secular world. It is backed up with references to the Bible, both Old and New Testaments. In a world where Christians are often questioned about what they believe, this book would be very helpful for any Christian, young or old. The idea behind it is also a great concept for young Christians and their grandparents. I would definitely recommend it, especially as a guide to young Christians at the top end of primary school and into the early years of secondary school. -- Presbyterian Herald

Christian Focus Publications Ltd Pilgrim’s Progress
Book SynopsisJohn Bunyan could be said to have authored one of the most influential books in the English language. But ‘The Pilgrim’s Progress’ is so much more than an historical novel. Bunyan’s plan for his readers is for them to travel through this book as an adventure through the Christian life – retold on paper and in pictures. The story of Christian and his companions has been a favourite for generations. John Bunyan’s imaginative text brings out the same, practical, necessary lessons that everyone needs to know – both today and yesterday. Additional features and study sections have been included to help today’s generation of children to understand the book. These will help you to get behind some of the characters and places that Bunyan describes. You will also learn about Bunyan himself through a ‘life summary’ and get some ideas on how to use this book. A small number of archaic words have been changed to modern equivalents and there is a dictionary and footnotes to provide additional help. This means that Christian and Faithful talk like the medieval travellers they are, and not like modern day tourists, but you can also get what they are on about!Trade Review"Next to the Bible, the book that I value most is John Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress" ... it is ... the Bible in another shape." -- Charles Haddon Spurgeon (Famous 19th century preacher)'This wonderful work is one of the very few books which may be read over repeatedly at different times, and each time with a new and a different pleasure' -- Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Christian Focus Publications Ltd James Chalmers: The Rainmaker's Friend
Book SynopsisJames didn't think much about the rain and where it came from as he struggled through the storms on his way to church. He didn't even care that much about going to church, he did all he could to avoid going. But one little letter changed all that. You see, James heard of the people of the South Pacific - people who had never heard of Christ - and in a heartbeat his life changed. He found a new-born love for God and a new attachment to a people who had never heard the truth about their Creator and Saviour. The South Pacific was a dangerous place to be with violent tropical storms and cannibal tribes on the march - but James knew where God wanted him to be and why. In the warm tropical rain that, for him had replaced the icy highland winds, James Chalmers was able to share the news of the rainmaker - the one true God who had come to save his people - even cannibals. But James knew that in the middle of such hostile tribes he may only be a heartbeat away from death. He knew the dangers, he knew the cost - but he was still willing. This is the true story of a young Scot who took the good news of the gospel to cannibals and in the end had his life taken from him by the very people he had come to serve.Trade Review"An excellent addition to the ‘Torchbearers' series of biographies telling how God's power changed lives in Scotland and Papua New Guinea. Chalmers' fearlessness for the gospel, love for people and strong belief that God could keep him through all dangers till his work was done come through clearly." -- Miriam Lowrie, Peace & Truth, 2007:3

Christian Focus Publications Ltd Michael Faraday: Spiritual Dynamo
Book Synopsis Every time you switch on a light, start up a computer or turn on a television, you do it because of discoveries related to the work of Michael Faraday. In a swimming pool you will be guarded from disease because of liquid chlorine in the water: this is because Michael Faraday first liquefied chlorine. Faraday built the very first electric motor and later the first generator and transformer of electricity. This was to change long distance communication across the earth leading to the ability to talk to astronauts far out in space. His work on electromagnetism is included in Melvyn Braggs' book on 12 books that changed the World. But Michael Faraday also suffered from a disorder known as dyslexia. This meant that he had difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters, and other symbols. Faraday however, overcame this problem to become one of the greatest public lecturers in history. The interesting thing is that alongside all the amazing discoveries and brilliant experiments there was something more important in Michael's life. He deeply loved and followed the Lord Jesus. On one occasion after a brilliant public lecture he had given at the Royal Institution, the house "rocked" with enthusiastic applause. The Prince of Wales rose to congratulate the great Professor. The thunders of applause however, were followed by a strange silence. Everybody waited for Michael Faraday's reply, but the lecturer had vanished! Where was he? Faraday had slipped away to a prayer meeting. Faraday believed that his great purpose in life was to read, as he put it, "the book of nature ... written by the finger of God". Few people in history have read that book more accurately and applied it more helpfully.

Christian Focus Publications Ltd The Holy War
Book SynopsisJohn Bunyan could be said to have authored the most influential book in the English language (other than the King James Bible) – The Pilgrim’s Progress. But he has also written another dramatic allegorical novel – The Holy War. Bunyan’s plan for his readers was for them to experience the struggles of the city of Mansoul as a fierce battle rages to take control of it. However, alongside this knife–edge drama Bunyan wished his readers to understand how the struggles of their souls ran in parallel to the struggles of the wretched inhabitants of that place. The righteous and honourable ruler Shaddai and his son Immanuel rule Mansoul with justice and equity. But the ruler of darkness – Prince Diabolus – has other plans. With his evil captains and their battalions Diabolus plots the fall and destruction of the once happy city. The first to fall is Captain Resistance as Diabolus knows that there is only one route into the city and that it can only be breached through the permission of the people of Mansoul itself. With Captain Resistance gone, the city is laid open to Diabolic lies and the next to fall is Lord Innocency and then the city is lost. So begins a story of treachery and deceit, foolishness and pride, forgiveness and final redemption. In fact this is, as Bunyan intended it, the story of a sinner saved by the grace of God.
