Book SynopsisSo when he is offered a junior position at a London law firm he hopes his life is about to change - but he could never have imagined by how much. Tidying up the archive one day, AJ finds an old key, mysteriously labelled with his name and date of birth - and he becomes determined to find the door that fits the key.Trade ReviewCaptures the mood of a generation. * The Times *Gardner pulls off a brilliant balancing act as her flawed hero travels between the two periods, discovering that, sometimes, a fresh start in a new environment can restore and heal those whose future - or past - looks hopeless. Rollicking stuff. -- Sally Morris * Daily Mail *Sally Gardner is quite possibly my favourite children's author of all time. Her poetic prose and seemingly effortless ability to flit from genre to genre never ceases to astonish me * The Independent *Striking, elegant ... Gardner's humane message will resonate with teens everywhere: keep looking for that door, as one day you'll find it - and maybe, once you've gone through, you'll even want to lock it behind you -- Philip Womack * The Spectator *As the three tangle with poison, treachery and love, the novel asks whether the past was better at granting the young responsibility, opportunities and adulthood... subtle, beautifully written and captivating. Enjoy. * New Statesman *The story, which is set in the present and in 1830, makes both centuries vivid and credible. Unfolding a complicated mystery without losing us, it is told with unclichéd brio and contains characters to care about, while making us consider what a difference a fresh start could make to those who have few opportunities * The Sunday Times *Gardner vividly juxtaposes the drug deaths and gang rivalry of the present with the top hats and formality of the early 19th century ... Gardner's clever tale is enjoyably complex. * Financial Times *

It has been two years since Rory drowned, and Lorali is in Hastings, living the quiet life of a normal teenage girl.Trade ReviewAURABEL is as magical and lyrical and brilliant and special and original as its author, the lovely Laura Dockrill. I adored it. -- Katherine Webber * Twitter *Laura Dockrill's criminally underrated YA books are about mermaids; but mermaids as you've never seen them before. Aurabel is the follow-up to 2015's Lorali and they're both lovely, lyrical, beautifully weird books about a matriarchal community where mermaids are the salvaged bodies of women wronged by society. There's so much magic and fun and brilliant world building layered with sharp commentary about women's bodies and growing up - all written in Dockrill's gorgeous style which is fiercely contemporary and poetic all at the same time. * The Pool *Aurabel is quite unlike anything else being published this year * Culture Fly *Vibrant, savage and funny, AURABEL is a mermaid tale for modern times. * Kiran Millwood Hargrave, winner of 2017 Waterstones Children's Prize *I found Dockrill's writing very unique and interesting * The Books Are Everywhere *the story raises some very interesting issues about body image, internet fandom and what it means to be human * INIS Reading Guide *

'A dark, Middle-Eastern influenced retelling about dangerous secrets, false identities, delicious court intrigue and justice.' - culturefly.co.uk on ThornTrade ReviewFull of ... whispered conversations, all kinds of magic, intrigue and twists and turns... Reminiscent of classic tropes of fairytales while still managing to tell a story that comes across fresh, bold and unique. * The National *The Theft of Sunlight is a great sequel to the fairy tale retelling Thorn. The series is set in a Middle Eastern inspired fantasy world, and the stories largely take place in the kingdom of Menaiya. I really enjoyed the first book in this series, however, I think The Theft of Sunlight is even better. Our protagonist, Amraeya (Rae), is recruited as an attendant to the new princess. She quickly begins working to uncover the dark secrets haunting her kingdom and to reveal the mystery behind the "Snatchers", who have been taking children for decades. She must work with different people, from those highest at court to thieves working on the streets. Rae has many challenges to overcome along the way, particularly the way others treat her due to her country upbringing and club foot. She's a really interesting character to follow as she grapples with themes of justice and moral codes. On top of Rae being a great main character, the secondary characters in this book were also enjoyable. Rae's charming allies and rage-inducing villains make you root for Rae even more. Seeing the banter she has with her friends and family helps break up some of the darker elements of the story.Overall, I think this book is definitely worth a read for anybody who is a fan of fantasy. I can't wait to read the next book in this series when it's released. -- Rachel Stephens * Paper Lanterns Lit *

(Jan. 2009) (33pgs) received a review copy from the publisher. - This graphic novel is label reading level 1, though I do say it is a but harder than that but nevertheless my son had no problems reading this out loud to me. The story keeps true to the traditional tale we are all familiar with with no watering down and tiny little twist at the end that is very clever. The illustrations are wonderful and creepy. You honestly have to give this book a read once you've had a look at the illustrations. Ds looked forward to reading it everyday. We have another in this Fairy Tale series and I've noticed my library has quite a few on the shelves as well, so we'll certainly be back for more of these. 5/5 * Back to Books Blog *Three Little Pigs has more spunk and not quite so happy an ending. The pigs and wolf are larger than life, with mud, sweat, and saliva flying across the panels. The animals frenetically bounce across the pages in pursuit of one another. The wolf is particularly menacing and its curved claws and glowing green eyes will remain in children’s thoughts at the end of the tale as it lies in wait. -Carrie Rogers-Whitehead, Kearns Library, UT * School Library Journal *
