Book SynopsisBoy Meets Hamster is the uproariously funny, sweetly romantic debut novel from Birdie Milano. This is the perfect first summer romance – with a twist.Fourteen-year-old Dylan Kershaw's idea of a dream holiday includes at least three things: beaches to bask on, cosmopolitan culture, and a chance for romance (or at least his first kiss) with another boy. Unluckily for Dylan, his mum's treating the family to the least dreamy holiday ever: a £9.50 break at Starcross Sands, Cornwall's Crummiest Caravan Park. But Starcross Sands might not be so bad after all, especially if Dylan can win the heart of Jayden-Lee, the gorgeous boy in the caravan next-door. There's only one thing standing in true love’s way: the park's massive hamster mascot, Nibbles, who seems to have it in for both Dylan and his romantic chances. Dylan’s best friend, Kayla, claims that appearances can be deceptive: so is Jayden-Lee just as lovely beneath the surface, and what could be lurking under Nibbles' furry face?'It may be set on the caravan park from hell, but this beautiful LGBTQ+ read is positively heavenly' – Simon James Green, author of Noah Can't EvenTrade ReviewToday’s teens deserve the chance to see two boys kissing under the twinkling starlight of an end-of-summer dance. * Birdie Milano on Daily Express Online *It’s a sweet, funny, moving and joyous delight of a novel, full of love and full of hope, with a great big (giant hamster-sized!) heart at its centre. Book SynopsisJustin A. Reynolds, author of Opposite of Always, returns with Forever Ends on Friday, another charming and powerful YA contemporary novel with a twist. What if you could bring your best friend back to life – but only for a short time?Jamal’s best friend, Q, doesn’t know that he died, and that he’s about to die . . . again. He doesn’t know that Jamal tried to save him. And that the reason they haven’t been friends for two years is because Jamal blames Q for the accident that killed his parents. But what if Jamal could have a second chance? A new technology allows Q to be reanimated for a few weeks before he dies . . . permanently. And Q’s mom is not about to let anyone ruin this miracle by telling Q about his impending death. So how can Jamal fix everything if he can’t tell Q the truth?Forever Ends on Friday weaves together loss, grief, friendship, and love to form a wholly unique homage to the bonds that bring people together for life - and beyond.Forever Ends on Friday is published in the US as Early DeparturesTrade ReviewThis what-if novel about loss celebrates life, asking the questions: what would you do with the rest of your life if you knew you were about to die? And would you want to know? Jamal loses someone but has the chance to bring him back, briefly. Forever Ends on Friday is also about coming to terms with other griefs, and not letting fear sabotage friendships and relationships. It considers the morality of truth-telling, self-sacrifice and forgiveness. Written with warmth and wisdom, it is a lighter read than its theme suggests, notwithstanding lumps in the throat. Despite the sci-fi element, it is full of everyday American teenage reality, bantering dialogue, family repartee (notably between Jamal and his pregnant sister, Whit), comic details, romantic connection and, above all, having fun. * Sunday Times, children's book of the week *A page-turning narrative with a cast of fully realized characters and realistic dialogue. The skillful use of flashbacks and social media content fully engages readers. Despite the seriousness of the story, humor and moments of pathos will elicit empathy and connection. This thoroughly satisfying novel of love, loss, and reconciliation is not to be missed. * Kirkus Reviews *This charming, wry novel packed with witty, crackling banter is propulsively readable. There are some big questions about choice, consequences, loyalty, and love in this novel, and Reynolds beautifully complements those heavy concerns with the sweet, funny, and genuine voice of his protagonist. * Booklist *Praise for Opposite of Always: Opposite of Always is as beautiful as it is funny, warm, and captivating. One of the best love stories I’ve ever read. Jack King is the hero we’ve been waiting for. -- Angie Thomas, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Hate U GiveI loved the humour, brightening even the darkest moments but without spoiling them, and the warmth in the relationships.Jamal’s voice is just great. The premise is so interesting and plays out believably, leaving the reader with lots to ponder over: Do you think it is a good idea to have a second chance to say goodbye? * Teen Librarian *Forever Ends On Friday is a really enjoyable contemporary, with a hint of sci-fi that I really enjoyed, that will tug at your heartstrings and remind you what is truly important in life. You’ll treasure your friends and loved ones after this. I can’t recommend this book enough. * Jth Books *Forever Ends On Friday is a real page-turner: the writing is pacey, the plot is unpredictable and Jamal’s underlying humour seams together tragedy, connection and forgiveness in one enthralling story. The point of view of the narration is so detailed that it almost feels we are allowed into a private, personal space. Family and friendship are key themes in the book; all the relationships with the secondary characters are given the spotlight, none of them overshadows the others and they all contribute to the development of the plot. In Reynold’s story, we hurt with all the characters, we grieve with them and weheal with them. Forever Ends On Friday is a book that I feel needs to be read in a quiet, private space as there is a lot to process; I think would be a great addition to a KS4 library * Just Imagine Story Centre *The depiction of the main two boys, Quincy and Jamal, and their friendship is very cleverly constructed. The friendship is flawed and deeply human, it’s only when Jamal knows that time is short that he learns how to put others first. It really makes you consider what it is to be human and supporting others – whether they be friends, parents or carers, partners, co-workers, etc. I like that the story is told from the perspective of both boys. It brings the reader fully into the story and makes them consider things from each of the viewpoints – both the grieving friend and the boy with only a short time to live. The first-person perspective also brings other characters fully to life, with vivid descriptions, sometimes almost painfully vivid. The grief felt by Jamal at the death of his parents, then of his best friend can be difficult to read, but also very relatable for anyone who has gone through that loss. The depiction of Quincy’s mother and her journey through grief is also realistically presented and I found myself crying at several points in the book because of her raw emotion. I would recommend this for both girls and boys aged 14 plus. Other topics include love, grief, loss, comedy, relationships, family and what it means to live a full life. I loved the concept of this story and it would create lots of discussion points for reading groups or classroom discussions. It really makes you think about the choices we make in life and if we truly live our lives to the fullest. * Armadillo magazine *

Laura has written a beautiful love letter to some of the most important things in life: friends, family and food. -- Lindsey KelkA celebration of food sisterly love and what it means to be teen today, Big Bones had me laughing out loud * The Sun *I loved this character so much, she is a total breath of fresh air, an inspiration and we could all do with taking a lesson from her. I recommend this for every single person * Edel's Book Blog *As energising as a super food salad, as satisfying and nourishing as your favourite home-cooked meal, this delectable novel about feeling comfortable in your own skin has been prepared with sisterly love and comes served on a bed of inspiration. Stuffed with lashings of laugh-out-loud loveliness (just wait until you read about Bum Tills...), relatable real-life truths and love in all its complicated, dizzying forms (food-love, friend-love, sisterly-love, boy-love, self-love), this is, quite simply, the best YA book about self-esteem and body image I've ever read * Lovereading *this book is a real lesson in loving yourself and ignoring what people thing! BB's confidence is inspiring! * Shout Magazine *It was so deeply refreshing to read about a young woman who had utter confidence in how she looked, seeing sexy in muffin tops and belly rolls. It shows how ingrained it is, for me at least, to be in a space where we expect young women to hate how they look, as I found myself continually having my head pulled up but this novel surprise. Bluebelle is a pleasure to spend time with, and the story of her family, the navigation of the 'from child to adult' years, and be relationship with food are all equally absorbing. Pull up a seat at her table and tuck in! * Dogeared Reads *Laura Dockrill has such a unique writing style and her poetic freshness is a joy to behold. One second, you are laughing big belly laughs at her turn of phrase, and the next, you are crying There is so much food for thought in Big Bones, making it a book for teenagers to savour, and, above all, enjoy. Adult readers may wish they'd had the book to accompany them when they were teenagers, too * Booktrust *Big Bones is a book with a big heart * The Skinny *First of all, I LOVED the body positivity in Big Bones. It's a topic that I feel isn't addressed enough in YA fiction and it should be. Why shouldn't we all learn to love our bodies? Bluebelle's admiration for her own body was inspirational - young girls will read this book and hopefully realise that they don't need to be stick thin to be beautiful. Granted, BB was a fictional character but in my mind she is a beautiful young woman. Big Bones was an entertaining read and shows you the importance of loving yourself, looking out for family and friends and finding out what really matters. It's a book that helps bring out body positivity in a unique way and the character of BB will certainly stick with me for a long time * Amy's Bookish Life *An excellent story celebrating food and health and body positivity from the witty and relatable Bluebelle * Emily Jade Books *Overall, this is a great read... great for all young adults, yet also for people of all ages who just love food. The body positivity messages which stem from this book are simple: love your body, treat it well and feed it well * Romantics, Rebels and Reviews *Dockrill, who is also known for her performance poetry, captures the cadences of contemporary teenage life brilliantly * Irish Times *this book touched me in a way that I wasn't expecting. Don't let the light hearted cover fool you, this book will hit you hard. But I'm so glad that I read it, there is an overwhelmingly body positive message spread by Dockrill's novel which I think is important for many to read * Yorkshire Post *As energising as a superfood salad, as satisfying and nourishing as your favourite home-cooked meal, this delectable novel about feeling comfortable in your own skin has been prepared with sisterly love and comes served on a bed of inspiration * LoveReading 4 Kids *This book's message- about not only being yourself but about the importance of being comfortable in your own skin and knowing your own worth- is one that, as a feminist and a young woman myself, I strongly feel that every young girl needs to hear in a world increasingly dominated and torn apart by Photoshop, Instagram filters, eating disorders, self doubt and self hatred. Everyone should be a little kinder to themselves, and a little more BB. Take my advice, and read this book not only for its empowering message, but also for its humour and its heart * The Fairy Dust Book Blog *A love song to food and the acceptance of your own body . . . Moving and hilarious -- Beth Goodyear * The Scotsman *Glorious... a paean to feasting, family and good care of the self... Irresistibly hilarious and original, it shows Dockrill's enormous rhapsodic charm * The Guardian *A love song to food and the acceptance of your own body... Moving and hilarious * The Scotsman *Laura's writing is fabulous, it flows well, is beautifully descriptive - even foods I don't like/haven't tried I wanted to - and so so funny! * Bulletproof Scarecrow *I loved this book from beginning to end. I wish I'd had it to read as a teenager because Bluebelle would have been my absolute hero. This book was fun to read from beginning to end, I cared deeply about every character and I loved feeling like part of Bluebelle's family for a short while. I would recommend this book to anyone who has been a teenager concerned about their body (so probably most people!). Bluebelle's confidence is infectious and inspiring * Cosy Reading Nest *Teens will love BB's authentic, frank, funny tone, and inspirational levels of self-confidence, self-love, and self awareness. Young adults will love the no-shame approach, immersive narrative, and real, honest feel. Parents will love the related struggle of BB's mother who feels responsible for her daughter's weight, health and emotional wellbeing * Happiful Magazine *A body-positive book for the next generation, Big Bones follows Bluebelle, aka Big Bones, aka BB. A bold, beautiful, confident girl who accepts herself for who she is - wobbly bits and all - Dockrill's most recent novel presents teens with an inspiring young woman we all wish we had been * Happiful Online *I love how 'Big Bones' took me on this journey of self-reflection while also providing a very honest and refreshingly real story to read. Y'all should also pick it up. Plus, it gets bonus points for being SO BEAUTIFUL to take photos of. * The Copper Boom *Bluebell is extremely confident (something i wasn't) and she adores herself, which is great to read. However there are comments to her being wary people are looking at her and judging her and a little bit of paranoia. That was a really great touch that normalizes those thoughts but also shows that you can be confident and happy with yourself * The LIttle Contemporary Corner *BB's devil may care attitude and all round swag made her a bonefide girl crush character for me. She could teach us all a few tricks on upping our body confidence * The Book Geek Boutique *I would recommend picking this up and giving it a chance to grow on you if you're looking for something that really celebrates food and bodies, being a girl and growing up * Scriven Books *I honestly loved reading this book.
