De Gruyter Endoscopic Mitral Valve Surgery: Handbook of Minimal-invasive Cardiac Surgery
Book SynopsisThe minimally-invasive or endoscopic mitral valve surgery is one of the most attractive and most interesting areas of the modern heart surgery. The book describes first all practical steps necessary in a clinic from the idea of the introduction of the minimally-invasive mitral valve surgery up to practical realization of the operation program. The initial explanation of organizational and financial aspects allows an exact resource planning and protects against wrong expectations and failures. An extensive and detailed representation of the reconstruction technologies possible today as well as the specific features of her endoscopic application allow quick learning of the surgical technology. Numerous tips and tricks and informative pictures of the most frequent findings and the accompanying reconstruction technologies underline the practical orientation of the book.

Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG IAEA Atlas of Cardiac PET/CT: A Case-Study
Book SynopsisThis open access book presents a wide portfolio of examples of positron emission tomography coupled with computer tomography (PET/CT) studies in various cardiac conditions in order to provide a rationale for the implementation of this technology in an array of clinical conditions. Cardiovascular diseases are a major contributor to premature morbidity and mortality worldwide. Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are particularly affected by cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), with more than 75% of all CVDs deaths occurring in these countries. For this reason, target 3.4 of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda aims at a 30% reduction in premature mortality due to non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which include CVDs, by 2030. Among CVDs, ischemic heart disease (IHD) plays an important role and, according to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), it was responsible for 15.96% of global deaths in 2017. Between 2000 and 2017, the number of IHD deaths worldwide increased by 0.26% per year. Several imaging tools help to non-invasively diagnose, stratify risk and guide management in cardiac disease. They include nuclear cardiology techniques, using either SPECT (single photon emission computed tomography) or PET/CT. While myocardial imaging with SPECT has been fully embraced by the cardiology community and is widely available worldwide, PET/CT introduction has been slower, due not only to its higher costs, but also to the limited availability of PET/VCT scanners, mostly utilized for oncological applications. This book is an invaluable tool for nuclear medicine physicians, cardiologists and radiologists.Table of ContentsPreface1. TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR CARDIAC PET/CT2. EVALUATION OF ISCHEMIC HEART DISEASE3. EVALUATION OF CAV AFTER HEART TRANSPLANTATION4. EVALUATION OF INFILTRATIVE CARDIOMYOPATHIES5. EVALUATION OF CV INFLAMMATION AND INFECTION6. Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG Wiederbelebt: Rufen - Drücken - Schocken
IAEA Nuclear Cardiology: Guidance on the
Book SynopsisNuclear cardiology is one of the most widely used non-invasive techniques for the assessment of coronary artery disease and other cardiovascular conditions. It has proved to be a cost effective tool for the evaluation and management of cardiac patients and usually has a decisive role for diagnosis, prognosis and risk stratification. In particular, radionuclide myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) is used extensively worldwide for the evaluation of known or suspected coronary artery disease, with an estimated 15–20 million procedures performed annually. This publication provides a detailed analysis of all the steps involved in the delivery of nuclear cardiology services, from referrals to reporting, and is intended to serve as guidance for the implementation, homogenization and enhancement of MPI practice in those Member States where the technique is under development.
