Portrait of Lewis Carroll

Lewis Carroll, the pen name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, was a pioneering Victorian author whose playful imagination transformed children's literature. Best known for creating the whimsical world of Wonderland, he combined sharp logic, linguistic invention and gentle satire to produce stories that continue to enchant readers of all ages.

Beyond his celebrated fiction, Carroll was a mathematician, photographer and lover of wordplay, whose precise intellect balanced his taste for nonsense. His works remain cornerstones of English storytelling, inviting generations to explore curiosity, reason and the joyful absurdity of the human mind.

Book SynopsisWhen Alice falls down a mysterious rabbit hole she stumbles upon a magical fantasy world where anything can happen . . . Take tea with the Mad Hatter, meet the White Rabbit, grin with the Cheshire Cat, and play croquet with the Queen of Hearts, but whatever you do . . . don't lose your head!Lewis Carroll's classic characters spring to life in an enchanting show for the whole family, bursting with music, madness and mystery.Simon Reade''s adaptation of Lewis Carroll's much-loved fantasy classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is a witty and brilliantly inventive re-working, which won the TMA Award for Best Show for Young People.Trade Review[Former director/designer Melly] Still and Reade boldly resist temptations to create a cute, fluffy, Disneyfied landscape, instead embracing the physical limitations of theatre as a catalyst for the audience's collective imagination . . . It's a fresh, idiosyncratic pleasure. * Daily Telegraph on the original production *

Book SynopsisThis wonderful volume brings together three of Carroll's major works, the two dedicated to the amazing adventures of Alice, the only character who submits to logic and reason in a fantasy world, and The Hunt for the Snark, the story in eight episodes of an expedition aimed at capturing a snake-shark hybrid. In addition, this edition incorporates in the two texts of Alice the unsurpassed drawings of John Tenniel, colored by Fritz Kredel and those of Henry Holiday in the case of The Hunt For The Snark. The texts are accompanied by the author's original prologues, and by a series of short documents about the creative process of the works in question.
