Z2 comics Chasin' The Bird: A Charlie Parker Graphic Novel
Book SynopsisThe graphic novel tells the story of Bird's time in L.A. starting in December 1945, where Bird and Dizzy Gillespie brought frenetic sounds of bebop from the East Coast jazz underground to the West Coast for a two-month residency at Billy Berg's Hollywood jazz club. This marked the beginning of a tumultuous two year-stint for Bird bumming around L.A., showing up at jam sessions, crashing on people's couches, causing havoc in public places, and recording some of his most groundbreaking tracks, "A Night in Tunisia" and "Ornithology," as well as "Relaxin' At Camarillo," inspired by the end of his time in SoCal at the Camarillo State Hospital. The novel explores Bird's relationship with the characters and events he encountered during his time in L.A. including recording some of his signature songs with Dial Record founder Ross Russell, a brief but influential stay at the home of famed jazz photographer William Claxton, a party for the ages at the ranch home of artist Jirayr Zorthian, and others who found themselves in the orbit of the jazz genius. Chasin' the Bird is named for Charlie Parker's 1947 standard, and adapts one of the sunnier, but darker chapters in the life of Bird, beautifully told by Dave Chisholm The book will include an exclusive flexi disc record featuring a recording from Parker's time in Los Angeles. The deluxe limited edition will include a vinyl 45 with two tracks to be announced ahead of release. In conjunction with the graphic novel, Verve Records/UMe are currently working on a new album spanning Bird's L.A. period that will be released in September as well.

Iron Circus Comics Patience & Esther: An Edwardian Romance
Book Synopsis"This charmer serves scorching heat in a sugar coating."– PUBLISHERS WEEKLY "An engrossing and delightful read."– NEWSARAMA Patience is a kindhearted country girl, eking out a living in Edwardian England as tremors of social change rock the world around her. When she starts her employment in formal service on the grounds of an opulent country manor, she has no idea that her own personal revolution is about to begin. Selfless, dutiful, and just a touch naive, she takes to both her place as a parlor maid and to her new roommate, the bookish and progressive lady’s maid, Esther. In another time, the two women would have kept one another’s company forever in their little attic bedroom, living out their days in the employ of a Lord. But it’s now the dawn of a new age. The expanding empire has brought with it not only plundered wealth, but worldliness and new ideas. Suffragists agitate in the street, idle-rich bohemians challenge sexual mores, and Patience and Esther slowly come to realize the world is wider and full of more adventure and opportunity than they ever imagined . . . so long as they find the will to seize it. Sensual, sweet, and beautifully illustrated, PATIENCE & ESTHER is a steamy period romance and an inspirational erotic journey across the epic sweep of history, from the end of a gilded age to the start of an uncharted future.Trade Review"This charmer serves scorching heat in a sugar coating." – PUBLISHERS WEEKLY "An engrossing and delightful read." – NEWSARAMA "A tender, nuanced, and sensual adult graphic novel." – FRESH FICTION “Searle's work revolves around relationships, often but not always romantic ones. What's more, these relationships are frequently non-normative, in that they include queer women, people of color, sexual women, diverse body types and -- get this -- real, complex emotions.” – HUFFINGTON POST

Ablaze, LLC The Old Geezers Vol 2
Book SynopsisThe geezers are back! The Old Geezers Vol 2 includes two new stories, featuring three septuagenarians who have been friends since childhood: Antoine, Emile, and Pierrot. In "The One Who Got Away", things aren’t looking so good for the Geezers… one of them’s in the hospital, the other’s been arrested, and the third one is dealing with leaky roofs, drowning sheep, and eggs he doesn’t approve of. Two new characters make their appearance in this book, and through their stories we are taken to shark-infested waters and treasure-hunting in the Pacific, to village fairs, rugby matches, broken hearts, and behavior unbefitting neighbors–which continues to this day. Thank goodness young Sophie and her puppets are around to keep these old men in check. And in "The Magician", peaceful country living consisting of leaky roofs, puppet shows, and drinks and arguments at the local tavern is disturbed when a rare species of grasshopper is discovered in a local field, and suddenly environmentalists, politicians, hunters, Big Pharma, union people, mushroom pickers and geriatric anarchists are all loudly fighting for what they believe is the right approach to things. In the midst of all this, one love story may be blooming in spite of a curse, another may be doomed for good and for poop, and questions of paternity arise yet again. The Old Geezers is an international bestseller, regularly topping the graphic novel bestseller lists across Europe — with hundreds of thousands of copies sold. Come find out why the geezers have won the hearts of so many...in this gorgeously illustrated, beautifully written graphic novel series. SelfMadeHero Memoirs of a Book Thief
Book SynopsisParis in the 1950s: the reign of Sartre and existentialism. Daniel Brodin—bibliophile, book thief, self-proclaimed poet—enters the heated atmosphere of the Cafe Serbier, home of the Parisian literati. A poetry night is taking place and, when one luminary suggests giving the floor to an unknown, Daniel impulsively puts himself forward. Under pressure, he recites not one of his own surrealist poems but an obscure piece of Italian verse he’s certain no one will know. It’s plagiarism—but it’s a triumph. At last, success. Daniel’s recital marks his entrance into the Parisian avant-garde: a band of cultured rogues and pseudo-revolutionaries for whom life is a playground for art, and planning a robbery has as much value as writing a book. In this milieu, the wine is good and the girls are beautiful. But can success last if it is founded on plagiarism and theft? Trade Review"Tota’s dialogue is crisp and pointed, equally a mockery of and an ode to the squabbles and obsessions of the era. Behind the narrative of Daniel’s hapless descent looms larger questions about art, value, and authenticity. This is a delightful graphic novel for artists seriously questioning themselves and anyone questioning “serious” art." -- Publishers Weekly
