Hardie Grant Books Gen F'd?: How Young Australians Can Reclaim Their
Book SynopsisIn Gen F'd? economist Alison Pennington shows how the most educated generation in Australia’s history stands to be the first generation worse off than their parents, and gives young people the tools to create the change we need. This is the fifth book in The Crikey Read series from Crikey and Hardie Grant Books. Young people today are digital natives, encouraged to market their own uniqueness and success online, amid out-dated advice from parents and politicians: work hard and you’ll get ahead. But Australia's celebrated 'fair go' has disintegrated, with millions of young people stuck on the rat-wheel of insecure work and crammed into share houses paying off boomers’ mortgages. Against the backdrop of global warming and pandemic, young people have inherited a dysfunctional economy that consumes their futures. Gen F'd? plots a path forward for Australians to reactivate our democracy and create a new economy that provides hope and opportunity for all. From Crikey and Hardie Grant Books, The Crikey Read is a series that brings an unflinching and truly independent eye to the issues of the day in Australia and the world. Trade Review 'Alison is truly the economist for this generation. This book lays out how Gen F'd got here, what they can do to get out of it, and what changes Australia needs to make to ensure we all get a fair go. It will make you angry, but it will also hopefully make you determined.' – Amy Remeikis 'Pennington's Gen F'd? is packed with insights on how this generation might earn a shot at a future worth living for.' – Yanis Varoufakis ‘Gen F'd? is here, for everyone who wants some hard evidence of the structuralised economic disadvantage of young people as opposed to the fact-free self-flattery of – oh, I dunno – wage-thieves.’ – Van Badham 'A revolutionary economic roadmap for Australia’s disenfranchised youth.' – Nanci Nott, Arts Hub

Emerald Publishing Limited Gender and Generations: Continuity and Change
Book SynopsisThis volume focuses on the ways in which gender interacts with generation. Developed as the contributors and editors lived through the Covid-19 pandemic, the chapters offer a timely examination of gender-related changes that have occurred against the backdrop of changing socio-dynamics such as increasing and decreasing fertility and the aging of populations, and now, potentially, a global pandemic. The authors demonstrate how gendered and generational interactions intersect with class, immigration status, sexualities, and race and ethnicity. They discuss the various ways generation is defined and measured and they identify areas of intergenerational conflict. Chapters explore how ageism differentially affects the retirement of women and men, the intersectional quality of care-giving, and generational differences in gender attitudes. While chapters primarily cover the US, intergenerational mobility aspirations and female exploitation in Eastern India is also covered. Edward Elgar Publishing Ltd Solidarity Between the Sexes and the Generations:
Book SynopsisThis book combines a theoretical and empirical cross-national perspective to examine how societal transformations in European welfare states affect patterns of solidarity between men and women, and across generations. The authors' research has highlighted substantial discrepancies in various countries between the assumptions made at the macro-level of social policy on family issues and the reality of women's and men's contributions at home. In countries where social policy relies on family solidarity as the main source of support, this may result in growing social inequality. Finally, the chapters reveal the crucial role of women in the transformation of family life and welfare state policy. These conclusions could have important ramifications for European welfare policy. The cross-national perspective allows for a detailed understanding of the similarities and differences between the various European countries and their policies. Solidarity Between the Sexes and the Generations will appeal to scholars and researchers of social policy, sociology and welfare as well as women and gender studies. Because of its comparative perspective the book is also of interest to those involved in developing social policy in European countries.Trade Review'The strength of the book lies in the comprehensive coverage of the expanded Europe and its diverse welfare perspectives, taking gender and intergenerational solidarity as the core of the discourse. The volume includes theoretical, empirical and comparative material, which is written in an accessible and refreshingly jargon-free style. Vintage Publishing Pure Flame: On Mothers and Daughters
Book Synopsis'Rich and moving' New York Times'A book that expands and breaks your heart' Adelle Waldman, author of The Love Affairs of Nathaniel P.A revelatory enquiry into selfhood, freedom, mortality, storytelling, and what it means to be a mother's daughterDuring one of the texting sessions that became our habit over the period I now think of as both late and early in our relationship, my mother revealed the existence of someone named Janis Jerome. So begins Michelle Orange's extraordinary inquiry into the meaning of maternal legacy - in her own family and across a century of seismic change. Jerome, she learns, is one of her mother's many alter egos: the name used in a case study, eventually sold to the Harvard Business Review, about her midlife choice to leave her husband and children to pursue career opportunities in a bigger city. A flashpoint in the lives of both mother and daughter, the decision forms the heart of a broader exploration of the impact of feminism on what Adrienne Rich called 'the great unwritten story': that of the mother-daughter bond.Through a blend of memoir, social history, and cultural criticism, Pure Flame pursues a chain of personal, intellectual, and collective inheritance, tracing the forces that helped transform the world and what a woman might expect from it.Trade ReviewThe best book I've read this year...unsparing, stylishly written, and profoundly loving, the book is as original as it is powerful... a book that expands and breaks your heart, not with sentimentality but with its intelligence and compassion. -- Adelle WaldmanA provocative, meditative, funny, feminist adventure about two women trying to tell each other the stories that matter while there's still time. -- Alexander CheeRich and moving . . . Springer Nature Switzerland AG A Multidisciplinary Approach to Capability in Age
Book SynopsisThis open access book provides insight on how to interpret capability in ageing – one’s individual ability to perform actions in order to reach goals one has reason to value – from a multidisciplinary approach. With for the first time in history there being more people in the world aged 60 years and over than there are children below the age of 5, the book describes this demographic trends as well as the large global challenges and important societal implications this will have such as a worldwide increase in the number of persons affected with dementia, and in the ratio of retired persons to those still in the labor market. Through contributions from many different research areas, it discussed how capability depends on interactions between the individual (e.g. health, genetics, personality, intellectual capacity), environment (e.g. family, friends, home, work place), and society (e.g. political decisions, ageism, historical period). Springer International Publishing AG Opening up the Debate on the Aging Society:
Book SynopsisThis book documents, verifies and brings to life the issues and debates that are created around the aging society. It carefully offers a series of opinions that attempt to illuminate the fact that the aging society goes beyond aging and includes a series of changes in terms of family, social ties, relationships, and the way human beings perceive society. The book contributes substantially to the discussion of this new type of aging, the new types of families, and the new types of relationships, as well as in the application of cutting-edge analytical strategies to understand the trends and patterns of these new modes of social structures. The book includes detailed perspectives on how decisions need to be made, mindsets need to be changed, and precautions need to be taken to positively deal with these new realities. The evidence presented in this book suggests that if this does not happen, the danger of thanato-politics appears, which, denying reality, will lead humanity into difficult labyrinths, perhaps without any "Ariadne's thread" that will allow a glimpse of the way out. The translation from Spanish to English was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content.Table of ContentsChapter 1. Note about the methodological and conceptual use of this book.- Chapter 2. Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden Männliche Absolute Beginner: Ein

Table of ContentsWertetypen, Wertentstehung, Wertänderung.- Erhebungsdesign und Datengrundlage.- Statistische Methoden.- Alltagsleben im Jugendalter.- Wertedimensionen imJugendalter.- Wertentwicklung im Jugendalter.- Wertetypen im Jugendalter.- Entwicklung der Wertetypen im Jugendalter.
