Trade Review

With growing numbers in History, I needed new textbooks both to support learning in class and to help with cover should I happen to be absent.
The language in the Connecting History books is much more accessible, less dense and clearer to understand at Higher level compared to the previous textbooks we had. Students are finding it much easier to find, understand and process information.
I've already used the books for Britain, 1851-1951 extensively to help students with gathering information for their essays. They have then gone on to use that information in timed assessments. I think they will be really useful going forward to help with identifying knowledge, analysis and analysis+, as well as helping students to decide for themselves what to include in their essays.
The books have helped me significantly where my resources have been lacking and for when students have needed extension tasks.

The Connecting History books for Higher are nicely organised around the five factors outlined by SQA for each essay, which helps with the organisation of notes and chronology.
Students have enjoyed using the books because of the level of detailed examples and the way that each factor is organised into argument and counter argument, which helps with essay planning.
Even after teaching this course for 21 years, I'm finding some new bits and pieces of knowledge to help to refresh my own learning!
