Was tun gegen rechts? Diese Frage ist so alt wie die Bundesrepublik. The Israeli historian Shmuel Feiner describes not only the private and public career of Mendelssohn and his rise to one of the leading philosophers of his time, but also the disruption of a person who worked as a liberal champion of the Enlightenment and at the same time had to take note of religious prejudices as a Jew He came across both within and outside of his religious community. His life and work identify Mendelssohn as the first real Jewish enlightener. Before him, there had been no thinker whose intellectual development was so closely linked to the dilemmas of contemporary Jewish existence - conflicts that arose from the profound upheaval in modern European society. This volume focuses on the encounter between European missionaries and indigenous people and aims to illuminate how life in a contact zone changed concepts, attitudes and practices. It collects examples from nearly all world regions from early modern times to the middle of the twentieth century.The contributions discuss the concept of contact zones", defining them both as spaces where people of different backgrounds actually met and as "imagined contact zones" between European Christians and those living abroad who insisted on forming one community and thus exchanged ideas, and as "personalised contact zones" in individuals who transcended boundaries and integrated different backgrounds and attitudes. In each case people, concepts and attitudes changed in the encounter. Practices were modified and new practices emerged. Values and conceptions were transformed. When individuals embodied the contact, however, they often were expelled from the contact zone, especially when they were not recognised as "European". The subject of marriage and sexuality among the Baptists of the 16th and early 17th century lies at the center of this study by Katharina Reinholdt. The explosive nature of this subject stems from its potential for innovation: Within this fragmented religious minority there were a number of secret marriages as well as divorces and even cases of bigamy and polygamy. These events not only shaped the image of the Baptists in the eyes of their contemporaries, they also heavily influenced the development of the Baptists from radical outsiders at the beginning of the Reformation to an established religious minority in the 17th century. The historical reception of the Baptists was also long overshadowed by the so-called "libertarian" tendencies of the era. This new study on the concept of marriage among the Baptists is also relevant to understanding the role of marriage in the context of the Reformation. The Baptist idea of marriage may also be seen as a conscious counterpart to Luther's concept of marriage as a "worldly thing." Between the poles of the old (Catholic) and the new (Protestant) understanding of marriage lay the Baptist position as an independent answer to the question of a new balance between the religious and the worldly aspects of this institution. The marked parallels to the more radical ideas that later emerged suggest that the Baptist position toward marriage was indeed a genuinely reformatory phenomenon and not, as long thought, a belated result of the heretic movements of the Late Middle Ages.

Be fruitful and multiply is a verse with a storied history. Whether in theology or natural law, this much-debated verses explosive potential had gone largely dormant prior to the Reformation. For Luther, however, in the context of the debate surrounding monastic vows, this verse would once again take on new life. Fueled by the contributions of his fellow reformers especially with regard to the normative nature of mans sexuality a powerful new understanding of this verse emerged. This new understanding, a synthesis of Luthers own scriptural understanding coupled with powerful natural-philosophical insight from Melanchthon, would go on to play a significant role as former celibates abandoned their vows. It would also offer normative shape to the contours of Reformation marriage even as it took its place in such important works as the Augsburg Confession and Melanchthons Apology.

Psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy have existed as a separate specialist area since 2003. Acute clinics with this focus that are not part of a psychiatric facility only gradually established themselves in the period that followed. So far, there are hardly any detailed descriptions of the specific procedure and the resulting processes in such a clinic. Wolfgang Hagemann provides a remedy here.
