Quart Publishers Koepfli Partner: Landschaftsarchitekten, Landscape Architects
Stefan Koepfli is one of the most important landscape architects in Switzerland, with projects including the multi-award winning Eulachpark in Winterthur and the factory extension for Baumgartner AG in Cham-Hagendorn. Often, the inspiration for and starting point of his designs are referential experiences and impressions of existing natural environments and landscapes, which are transformed on new ground, thereby becoming poetic expressions. The book impressively reflects in images, plans and texts on 25 of the most important works, from the smallest garden to the large-scale park.

Quart Publishers Vincent Mangeat: Logos and Faber
Vincent Mangeat became internationally renowned in1988 following the construction of his building for the Cantonal High School in Nyon. Influenced by his work experience in Paris, training under Jean Prouve and a spell as Assistant to Hans Brechbuhler and Pierre Foretay at the EPF Lausanne, Mangeat s work bridges the gap between two architectural eras, namely the Tessin Tendenza of the '70s and '90s architectural styles with their exponents in the German-speaking region of Switzerland. But his work has always remained independent and rooted in western Switzerland. From his first residential building in Evolene (1969) to his current projects, including a house for writers at the foot of the Jura mountains, his wealth of architectural achievements form an important a part of his life and work as his permanent, valuable teaching activity. Text in English, French and German. 400 colour illustrations

Quart Publishers Durisch Nolli: De Aedibus 42
Clear, simple forms and structures are evident in the style of the Lugano architect couple Pia Durisch and Aldo Nolli. Their still relatively new work, such as the austere structure of the Max-Museum, Chiasso (2005) and the Vocational School Center, Cordola (2010) indicates the direction in which their stringent architecture is developing. Text in English and German.

A further, surprising station in an increasingly concise and reduced oeuvre can be seen in the Berufsbildungszentrum (Professional Training Centre) Baden (2006). The main section of the 200-page volume provides a detailed presentation of ten more recent buildings. The volume is supplemented by a topical discussion between Andrea Deplazes and Adrian Meyer and a complete catalogue of works with picture credits. Quart Publishers Lineage and Legacy: A Certain Modernism in Cadaqués
This book investigates a particular kind of architecture that thrived in the 1950s in Cadaqués, a small Spanish fishing village on the Costa Brava. It explores a number of holiday houses built between the mid-1950s and 1960s by a group of architects who shared bonds of friendship and architectural affinities, as well as connections with the international Modern movement (including José Antonio Coderch, Lluís Clotet, Federico Correa, Alfonso Milá, Oscar Tusquets, Manuel Valls). Observations on the common threads that link eight case studies are enriched by a photographic essay by David Grandorge and by detailed architectural drawings on a number of significant projects of the time. An interview with the authors Stephen Bates (Sergison Bates architects, London) and Fernando Villavecchia (Liebman Villavecchia Arquitectos, Barcelona) provides a background to their shared fascination with Cadaqués. A timeline contextualises the projects against the backdrop of historical events and the milestone in the lives of the clients and architects who made the village a unique locus in the history of architecture. Text in English and Spanish (Spanish in an inserted booklet).

The publication describes the architect's life and work in three chapters, recognising his achievements in school building and classifying them within the European context of a humanising functionalism. Quart Publishers Spillmann Echsle: De aedibus 90
The Zurich architects Annette Spillmann and Harald Echsle became renowned in 2006 with their container tower for the FREITAG bag and fashion label in Zurich. Over time they have created some remarkable, carefully developed buildings in Ticino and South Korea, such as the Ca'Ospiti apartment building in Rancate, whose structure appears like a reduced archetype that houses five cleverly-nested flats inside; or the equally stringent and minimalist Godung residential and commercial building near Seoul: in brick and exposed concrete, it also contains intelligently-nested rooms within itself. Quart Publishers Sollberger Bogli
For each building presented in the volume, Biel architects Ivo Sollberger and Lukas Bögli describe a central idea that aptly symbolises the project, referring to the buildings themselves, which carry a narrative force within them. The rows of seats at the new Stade de la Tuilière in Lausanne, for example, are housed in a mighty gestural shell. And the structure of the Raiffeisenbank in Sonceboz-Sombeval appears as an impressive, dynamically-structured crystalline sculpture. Text in English and German.

Quart Publishers Feine Fassaden: Tektonik Schweizer Stadthäuser
Form and resistance are the essence of all architectural work. This is especially clear in the interaction between the effect and construction method of façades. They orchestrate the transition between interior and exterior worlds, they manifest the underlying approach and the way buildings behave towards their surroundings. In their articulation of engineering and aesthetics, supporting and loads, proportion and practicality, and rhythm and materiality, they reflect both varying production methods and social value systems. The architect Lando Rossmaier worked with students at the University of Lucerne to study the range of architectural means of construction and expression with respect to Swiss townhouse façades. This anthology presents a selection of around 80 buildings with sensitively developed tectonics, dating from the 20th-century to the present day, all of which have formed a backdrop for an urban way of life for decades. Like a manual, the effect is demonstrated using a photographic portrait and a description of the construction method, using detailed tectonic isometrics. The collection is supplemented by ten projects by contemporary Swiss architects, with essays on their understanding of tectonics. Text in German. Articles: Dr. Bettina Köhler, Roger Boltshauser, Buol & Zünd Architekten, Edelaar Mosayebi Inderbitzin Architekt*innen, Enzmann Fischer Partner Architekten, Joos & Mathys Architekten, Käferstein & Meister Architekten, Knapkiewicz & Fickert Architekten, Loeliger Strub Architektur, Lütjens Padmanabhan Architekt*innen, Bosshard Vaquer Architekten, Caruso St John Architects

Quart Publishers Mikou Studio – Paris: De aedibus international 29
The twin sisters Selma Mikou and Salwa Mikou founded their own Paris office in 2006 – after working for many years for Jean Nouvel and Renzo Piano. Each project primarily aims to liberate itself from preconceived forms in order to create original solutions that focus on the dimension of an emotional spatial experience. The architects have produced numerous prominent buildings in this way, including the Balsanéo Aquatics Center in Châteauroux (2021), which was developed as a dynamic figure that spans the boulevard like a bridge to overlook the unique landscape of the Indre region. Text in English and German.

Quart Publishers Menzingen Cantonal School KSM: Refurbishing Architectural Heritage. Bünzli & Courvoisier Architekten
The former Bernarda teacher-training centre in Menzingen was built between 1955 and 1958 by the two renowned Zug architectural teams of Hanns A. Brütsch and Alois Stadler, and Leo Hafner and Alfons Wiederkehr. The school on a gentle slope in the midst of the attractive landscape between Lake Zug and Lake Zurich is an exceptional example of 1950s Swiss architecture. The facility impresses with its staging of the exposed location, the coherent arrangement of five highly individualised buildings around a circular centre, and the notable design of the open spaces by Ernst Cramer. Between 2015 and 2018, the facility was extended and refurbished by the architects Bünzli & Courvoisier, transforming it for its new use as a cantonal school. The architects were strongly guided by the urban-planning and architectural design principles of the existing structures, while framing and expanding them with great respect and an undogmatic approach to consciously blur the boundaries between old and new. The book documents the existing facility with original plans and the clear-contoured, black & white pictures by the renowned Lucerne photographer Peter Ammon. Furthermore, the volume extensively reflects upon and documents in detail the school’s exciting, exemplary renovation. Text in English and German.

Text in English and German.

Quart Publishers Graber & Steiger: Mongraphie
For around two decades, the architectural duo of Niklaus Graber & Christoph Steiger from Lucerne have been continuously working on the design and construction of high quality buildings that can without doubt be regarded as an enrichment to Swiss building culture. Although the architects attempt to make their works generally understandable and give them a timeless legibility, when designing them they take the risk of fundamentally questioning the relevant task. That often leads to surprising interpretations and tailored solutions that reveal the specific characteristics of each project. By now, their work includes private family homes and apartment buildings, as well as a considerable number of public buildings for educational, cultural, industrial and tourist purposes, which have attracted a great deal of attention on the specialist scene both in Switzerland and abroad. For instance the extension to a window factory in Hagendorn, the therapy centre for the Heilpadagogische Zentrum Uri and the panorama gallery on the peak of Mt. Pilatus have been awarded national and international architecture prizes. Text in German, with English translation booklet enclosed.
