The book provides theoretical methods of connecting discrete-variable quantum information processing to continuous-variable one. It covers the two major fields of quantum information processing, quantum communication and quantum computation, leading to achievement of a long-sought full security of continuous-variable quantum key distribution (QKD) and proposal of a resource-efficient method for optical quantum computing. Firstly, the book provides a security of continuous-variable QKD against arbitrary attacks under a realistic condition such as finite communication rounds and the use of digitized information processing. The book also provides the unified view for conventionally used approximate Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill (GKP) codes, which encodes qudits on a continuous-variable system, enabling direct comparison between researches based on different approximations. The book finally proposes a resource-efficient method to realize the universal optical quantum computation using the GKP code via the direct preparation of the GKP magic state instead of GKP Pauli states. Feasibility of the proposed protocol is discussed based on the existing experimental proposals for the GKP state preparation.

Investigative journalist Terry Nelson is divorced, depressed and disillusioned. Muste, Myles Horton, Dorothy Day, Henry Wallace, Pauli Murray, Staughton Lynd, and Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke and wrote publicly about the connection between religious values and socialism. Equality, cooperation, and peace, they argued, would not develop overnight, and a more humane society would never emerge through top-down legislation. Instead, they believed that the process of their vision of the world had to happen in homes, villages, and cities, from the bottom up. In 1945, the Ruben Berta Foundation was set up, which allowed the company's shareholding to be distributed amongst all its employees, a situation almost unique in aviation. For almost 80 years, until it was wound up in 2006, Varig continually expanded its network, both in Brazil and around the world, introduced the Air Bridge between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo and set up a round-the-world cargo network. During its existence, Varig operated more than 30 different types of aircraft. The discipline of urban design is undergoing a rapid expansion and realignment. It is experiencing a shift from a profession dominated by architects and planners, directed at urban development, to a more expansive set of practices engaging new forms of social and environmental ecologies, as cities worldwide adapt to economic restructuring, mass migrations and climate change. Bringing together classic and new texts from the last 40 years, this AD Reader focuses attention on the critical tools needed to understand how cities have been designed and constructed and then changed over time. Building the Urban Environment is a comparative study of the contestation among planners, policymakers, and the grassroots over the production and meaning of urban space. Award-winning historian Harold Platt presents case studies of seven cities, including Rotterdam, Chicago, and Sao Paulo, to show how, over time, urban life created hybrid spaces that transformed people, culture, and their environments. As Platt explains, during the post-1945 race to technological modernization, policymakers gave urban planners of the International Style extraordinary influence to build their utopian vision of a self-sustaining “organic city.” However, in the 1960s, they faced a revolt of the grassroots. Building the Urban Environment traces the rise and fall of the Modernist planners during an era of Cold War, urban crisis, unnatural disasters, and global restructuring in the wake of the oil-energy embargo of the ’70s.Ultimately, Platt provides a way to measure different visions of the postwar city against actual results in terms of the built environment, contrasting how each city created a unique urban space.

El presente volumen deriva de la celebración, en noviembre de 2016, de los XII Encuentros Internacionales sobre Poesía del Siglo de Oro, organizados por el Grupo interuniversitario PASO (HUM-241), con la colaboración del Proyecto Góngora, integrado en el OBVIL de Sorbonne Université. El libro tiene como hilo conductor los debates y la controversia en torno a la nueva poesía en dos momentos cronológicos distintos y conectados entre sí: primero el de la recepción del italianismo en España, con la secuela de la paulatina canonización de Garcilaso como clásico en lengua vernácula; y luego, el de la polémica recepción del Polifemo y las Soledades gongorinas, como fase de culminación y en cierto modo superación de aquella primera renovación poética. Se propone, así, al lector un recorrido amplio que va desde 1526, por adoptar una fecha simbólica de referencia, hasta los aledaños de 1650, cuando Vázquez Siruela hace su entusiasta defensa de Góngora.
