The brain-computer interface (BCI) is an emerging technology that is developing to be more functional in practice. The aim is to establish, through experiences with electronic devices, a communication channel bridging the human neural networks within the brain to the external world. Conservation in protected areas has focused on preserving biodiversity of ecosystems and species, whereas conserving the genetic diversity contained within species has historically often been ignored. However, maintaining genetic diversity is fundamental to food security and the provision of raw materials and it is best preserved within plants' natural habitats. This is particularly true for wild plants that are directly related to crop species and can play a key role in providing beneficial traits, such as pest or disease resistance and yield improvement. These wild relatives are presently threatened due to processes of habitat destruction and change and methodologies have been adapted to provide in-situ conservation through the establishment of genetic reserves within the existing network of protected areas. M.K. Samuelson, realising that there was no collection of Sussex recipes, set about making her own. This was first published in 1937 but World War II prevented a reprint. Southover reprinted it in 2005 in response to the renewed interest in regional food. The author was lucky to own a large collection of cookery books herself and luckier that in those days, many local families still kept family recipe books. Many of the mouth-watering dishes in this collection go back to the early 18th century and even earlier. In addition to the recipes the book includes an introduction by contemporary food writer and broadcaster Hattie Ellis as well as a note by Catherine Mant, grandaughter of the author and former Assistant Editor of "The Good Food Guide".

Forged and hafted with great skill, sometimes with elaborately decorated scabbards, knives are of intrinsic fascination, besides being indicators of the popular artistic tastes of the time. This book catalogues, discusses and illustrates over five hundred knives, scabbards, shears and scissors dating from the mid-12th to the mid-15th centuries and found in the City of London, particularly along the waterfront sites, where recovered items can be accurately dated by dendrochronology and coin finds.
