With the growth of just-in-time delivery and e-commerce, fast and efficient cargo delivery remains in high demand around the globe. Not so long ago, the air cargo mode was employed mostly to move higher valued goods. Open international trade, combined with scale/scope economies in air transport and the use of modern commercial jets means that now some formerly “bulky” commodities are moved by air, a modal choice that would have been unthinkable a generation ago. However, as it grows the industry is not without its controversies or detractors. Employing various empirical techniques and modeling perspectives, the authors highlight the methods by which air cargo companies today provide effective and increasingly affordable services and how such services enhance economic growth, trade and development. The chapters cover three broad operational areas: costs and competitiveness, shipper services and air cargo company demand, and international competition and economic development. This volume provides the researcher with an updated “snapshot” of this international industry and provides governments with strong evidence that the development of an internationally competitive air cargo sector will likely continue to generate significant economic benefits across the globe.

Interviews were carried out with people with personal experience of complex inquests, including bereaved family members. Participation can provide families with redress and allow them to represent the deceased, as well as being an important part of their grief process. Family participation improves accountability by maximising the chance of achieving the right outcome via scrutiny, therefore identifying failures. Families also brings balance to the process, provide vital information about the deceased as well as helping to ensure that lessons are learned that will prevent future deaths. The study of policy networks is usually undertaken in the context of advanced democracies. Turkey, a case with the least favourable conditions for collaborative governance due to its tradition statist policy making and authoritarian political culture, is an under researched area in terms of exploring the network type of policy collaboration as a phenomenon. This book presents findings produced by micro- and meso-level analysis of policy networks using the Turkish context as a new case study. While this study does not suggest that centralized and hierarchical decision-making structures within the government are being replaced with horizontal and networked forms of governance, it demonstrates that networks have become an integral part of the practice of policy making within the Turkish health sector. These findings compel scholars of Turkish politics to expand the policy realm with new issues, actors, instruments, and concepts, and incorporates Turkey into general governance debates. Going beyond the confines of Turkish politics, these findings contradict the recent arguments that call into question the utility of policy networks as analytical concepts that can be used to explain policy making processes. Policy networks observed in the Turkish case consolidate research regarding treating networks seriously in public administration and public policy research.
