Nova Science Publishers Inc Endothelial Progenitor Cells in Health and Disease
We are delighted to offer this textbook to the scientific community, entitled Endothelial Progenitor Cells in Health and Diseases, which covers a timely topic in the rapidly evolving discipline of vascular biology. Written primarily for a life science audience and clinicians, the fundamentals of EPCs biology and the latest characterization and definition in health and diseases are introduced, followed by explanations of the most cutting-edge cell therapy methods to cure ischemic diseases. In Section One, endothelial cell progenitor isolation methods and biological characterization were reported. The discovery of this novel endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) concept has overturned the previous dogma which suggested that vasculogenesis could only occur during embryogenesis. In fact, both vasculogenesis and angiogenesis may potentially have a synergistic role in postnatal revascularization. Also, this chapter summarized recent advances in EPC biology such as biological function, origin, definition, and classification. Each EPC culture and isolation method is clearly defined to prevent confusion in EPC biology. Section Two focuses on EPC biological function alteration in cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Several large clinical trials have reported that the number and biological function are strongly associated with major adverse cardiovascular events. The diagnostic and prognostic potential of EPC is crucial in terms of CVD. In Section Three, biological dysfunction mechanisms of EPC and their scarcity in diabetic patients' peripheral blood were clearly described. Preclinical studies have shown that EPC-based therapy is feasible, safe, and efficacious in multiple disease states. Subsequently, this has led to several clinical trials demonstrating the feasibility and safety profile of EPC therapy against cardiovascular ischemic diseases. In Section Four, regenerative medicine pioneers discussed EPCs translation to the clinic and cell transplantation challenges along with their solutions. Personalized stem cell-based therapy approaches employing several clinical biomarkers, disease-related genetic-trait evaluation methods, and advanced analyses with state-of-the-art computational methods such as machine learning-based prediction can increase cell therapies' efficacy and decrease treatment costs. The last chapter in the book describes a therapeutic application of EPC-derived extracellular vesicles to cure CVD.

Nova Science Publishers Inc Global Cybercrime and Cybersecurity Laws and Regulations: Issues and Challenges in the 21st Century: Issues and Challenges in the 21st Century
The global Internet and cyberspace age witness a new generation of cybercriminals, hackers, cybergangs, cyber terrorists, and cyber sexual harassers. This phenomenon, broadly defined as cybercrimes, is the focus of this book. The International Telecommunication Union's Global Cyber Security Index found that about 90 percent of the world's countries have enacted laws and regulations to control and combat cybercrime. This book has examined some of those cyber laws and regulations in 12 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, China, Russia, Japan, Singapore, Nigeria, South Africa, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Different chapters of this book have found some common themes. First, in most of the countries of the world, there is an advancing process of legally criminalizing cybercrimes, including such behaviors as unauthorized access, use, and interception; damage and deletion of computer data; damage and destruction of computer networks; and dissemination and transportation of illegally obtained computer data. Second, there is high sensitivity in all countries studied about the security of the information infrastructure and their critical economic, political, and social infrastructures such as power plants, chemical industries, aviation systems, and electoral systems. Third, all forms of cybercrime committed by using the computer and the Internet are also defined as fraud and forgery, identity theft, cyber espionage, sexual harassment, cyber sexual extortion, online child pornography, and revenge pornography. One of the more critical themes that emerged is that no country defines cybersecurity as just a technical matter-a matter only of coding and decoding and encryption and decryption. Cybersecurity is also broadly perceived as a legal, political, organizational, and educational issue. It is perceived as a matter to be dealt with by a government in cooperation with international partners, potentially barring China and Russia. One of the other themes that emerged as a genuine concern is the rapid escalation of cyber sexual violence against women and minors. In most countries examined in this book, the policymakers and law enforcement believe that social media is partly responsible for increasing cyber sexual violence.

Nova Science Publishers Inc Loaded Language and the Dilemma of Journalism
The problems of loaded language in journalism have eroded professional credibility over the years, and yet the journalist has a bounty of empirical and psychological tools to counter disinformation and propaganda by the use of the word alone. What are the best practices for investigative journalists to interview and present information in an emotionally literate manner? How and why is loaded language used, and how can a reporter counter attempts at gaslighting and manipulation? How does the profession reinvent the interview to connect to audiences through multiple literacies? Drawing from studies in the social sciences, this definitive book looks at the primal, emotional, and analytical aspects of words and their neurobiological effect on audiences, as it shows how to avoid loaded language, spin, propaganda, atmosphere, narrative, and sophistry.

Nova Science Publishers Inc Effects of Healthful Bioactive Compounds on the Gastrointestinal Tract
Optimal performance of the liver and gastrointestinal tract is vital for general human health. The gastrointestinal system is the main site of nutrient digestion and absorption, and therefore has substantial effects on providing energy and growth for the body. All nutrient and non-nutrient components have an impact on the gastrointestinal system, either locally or systemically. Undeniably, gastrointestinal disorders, with increasing lifetime prevalence, have a profound effect on human health and reduce the quality of life. Nowadays, therapeutic options are limited to medical therapy, including pharmacologic approaches and surgical intervention or lifestyle changes aimed at dietary modifications and increased physical activity. Certainly, dietary modifications can be effective in preventing, treating, and alleviating associated symptoms and complications. In addition to improving whole dietary patterns, the components of foods, collectively or independently, also have a substantial role in their therapeutic features. These components, particularly bioactive compounds, confer unique health benefits and aid in management of various diseases. Recently, investigators have paid much attention to chemopreventive activity of bioactive dietary compounds in the treatment and prevention of gastrointestinal diseases. Fruits, vegetables and edible plants are the main source of biologically active compounds with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and protective properties. Most importantly, no major side effects have been reported for these compounds until now. Therefore, this book offers novel targets for prevention, treatment and management of liver and gastrointestinal diseases by providing evidence of effectiveness of bioactive compounds of functional foods. Furthermore, intracellular and molecular pharmacological mechanisms of action of bioactive compounds will also be discussed. It seems that bioactive compounds bring new hope for patients with gastrointestinal disorders through their anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative potential. The editors hope that the book will be a useful reference for researchers, product developers, health professionals and students.

Nova Science Publishers Inc Fragile X Syndrome: From Diagnosis to Treatment
Fragile X syndrome is an inherited disease caused by an excessive length of the FMR protein due to mutations in the FMR1 gene located on the X chromosome. It is commonly described as one of the most common genetic diseases with autism-like behaviours and related developmental disabilities. Beside intellectual delays, behavioural problems, and communication difficulties, mood disorders usually occur. Diagnosis is based on laboratory tests and DNA results. Phenotypes including long and narrow face, large ears, hyper-arched palate, flat feet, ataxia, seizures, anxiety, aggression, and hand-related stereotypic behaviours are frequently observed. Although there is no specific cure, early interventions are highly encouraging, promising, and recommended. Pharmacological treatments may be combined with behavioural and/or cognitive behavioural interventions. Recently, assistive technology-based programs have been implemented. This volume includes seven chapters and addresses the newest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of individuals with Fragile X syndrome. Chapter One encompasses the molecular features and pathological bases of the disease. A comprehensive literature overview was conducted. The role of the FMR protein was emphasized although few studies evaluated its function. Chapter Two deals with the neuropsychiatric symptoms related to the syndrome. A complete conceptual framework was exhaustively detailed. Chapter Three emphasizes the role of pharmacotherapy in the treatment of Fragile X syndrome. A further literature review was carried out. Clinical relevance was outlined. Chapter Four provides the reader with a conceptual analysis. Besides molecular features, brain development was described. Challenging behaviours were included and the importance of the early combined intervention was critically discussed. Chapters Five, Six, and Seven detailed three case reports on the effectiveness and the suitability of assistive technology-based interventions. Specifically, Chapter Five argued for microswitch-cluster technology focused on pursuing the dual simultaneous goal of promoting an adaptive response (i.e., object manipulation) and reducing a challenging behaviour (i.e., hand mouthing). Chapter Six describes a combined microswitch and VOCA program useful to ensure the participant has the choice between independent access to positive stimulation and asking for social interaction. Finally, Chapter Seven includes choice opportunities through an assistive technology-mediated program involving a boy with Fragile X in a functional task. Targeted readers (i.e., caregivers, clinicians, speech therapists, professionals, psychologists, neurologists, parents of children with Fragile X syndrome, teachers) may find interesting and stimulating tips and insights for daily use in clinical research and practice, with the dual objective of diagnosis and treatment.
