Silvana Marine Hugonnier: Cinema in the Guts
The volume, dedicated to Marine Hugonnier (Paris, 1969), filmmaker and contemporary artist, presents a selection of works representative of her artistic approach since her beginnings in 1998. At the border between documentary and fiction, the work of Marine Hugonnier constitutes an exploration of the politics of the gaze. His works are an attempt to deconstruct the inherent complicity between the gaze and political ideologies. His work thus aims to question the cultural and political framework that conforms each point of view. His films, which can be described as experimental films or film essays, are sometimes associated with visual anthropology, his field of investigation being the space that separates the subject from his observer. She travelled a lot with her Aaton s16 mm camera on her shoulder, adopting the posture of the reporter and the ethnographer more than that of the artist, mixing images and genres. For Marine Hugonnier, producing images involves thinking about them. Cinema is conceived by the artist as a political act. A filmmaker above all, the artist also practices photography and creates works on paper. Her artistic research transversally addresses feminism, gender fluidity, anti-colonialism and issues related to the convergence between human and non-human. She tries to reconfigure the devices of capture and restitution of the cinema to build a new regime of images. Texts by: Michael Newman, Nicole Brenez, Carles Guerra; conversation between Eyal Weizmann and Marine Hugonnier.

Station Hill Press,U.S. RHYME OF THE AG-ED MARINESS
This book gathers all the poems written by Lynn Lonidier (1937-1993) between her last book and her death. Lynn Lonidier was a streetwise, visionary poet whose idiom was a jazzy American English with San Francisco Mission-district Spanish thrown into the mix. Unequivocally lesbian and feminist, consistently dedicated to the underprivileged, her work brims with anger and irony, energy and humor, yet is suffused with loving tenderness throughout.

University of Nebraska Press Into the Valley: Marines at Guadalcanal
John Hersey (1914–93) was a correspondent for Time and Life magazines when in 1942 he was sent to cover Guadalcanal, the largest of the Solomon Islands in the Western Pacific. Schiffer Publishing Ltd Modern Marine Engineer’s Manual: Volume I
This book is designed to serve as a textbook for students and a reference for today’s engineering officers, port engineers, superintendent engineers, and other maritime professionals. Steam turbine propulsion systems are included, but the coverage has been reduced in recognition of the popularity of main propulsion diesel engines, covered in volume 2, and the anticipated increasing applications of aeroderivative gas turbines. Reciprocating steam engines have been eliminated. Pumps, pumping systems, and heat exchangers are given extensive coverage. Computer applications for machinery and system management are presented, including an entire chapter on maintenance management. Relevant material on international and national laws, classification society requirements, and standards, such as ISO 9000 series and the ISM code, are included in the text. The characteristics of fuels are presented along with a discussion of fuel testing and analysis, and a section on bunkering. A chapter on safety and management discusses shipboard engineering operations, shipyard repair planning and economics, and safety management. Each chapter includes review questions and references for additional study.

Taylor & Francis Inc Marine Macrophytes as Foundation Species
Marine macrophytes (macroalgae, seagrasses, and mangroves) comprise thousands of species distributed in shallow water areas along the world’s coastlines. They play a key role in marine ecosystems regarding biodiversity and energy flow. A large proportion of macrophyte species can be characterised as ecosystem engineers—organisms that directly or indirectly affect the availability of resources to other species by modifying, maintaining, and creating habitats. This book is divided into three main themes:• Marine macroalgae and seagrasses as sources of biodiversity gives an overview of the diversity of the main organisms associated with macrophytes, and their functional role and interactions within their hosts.• Primary and secondary production of Macrophytes synthesizes research on food web structures derived from/or associated with, macrophytes and the transfer of macrophytic primary and secondary production from one ecosystem to another.• Threats to macrophytic ecosystem engineers addresses human-induced effects including eutrophication, physical destruction, invasive species, and global warming. The book is among the first one to concentrate on the value of macrophytes for the well-being of marine habitats. The book is aimed at academics but may be useful for students, policy makers, and laymen alike.

Bloomsbury Publishing PLC US Marine vs Japanese Soldier
Fully illustrated, this book assesses the US Marines and Japanese troops fighting in three bloody battles of World War II in the Pacific. In June 1944, the United States military launched an offensive against the Japanese forces holding the Mariana Islands and Palau. The US Marine Corps played a vital role in this campaign alongside Army and Navy forces, while their Japanese opponents mounted a desperate defense of their conquests amid the harsh island terrain. This book assesses both sides' doctrine, tactics, weapons, and battlefield effectiveness in three battles of this stage of the Pacific War. Landing on Saipan on June 15, the Marines established a beachhead as the Japanese defenders strove to fight to the last man. On July 21, US Marine Corps and Army forces landed on Guam. Only on August 10 was Guam declared secure by the Americans, and even then resistance continued. US forces landed on Tinian on July 24 and wrested the island from its conquerors. Alongside Army troops

Nova Science Publishers Inc Advances in Marine Biology: Volume 5
This monograph includes seven chapters, each presenting recent advancements in the field of marine biology. Chapter One describes how the biodiversity of the Mediterranean marine environment has changed due to climate change and species invasions and proposes policy suggestions. Chapter Two discusses an integrated ecotoxicological view on elasmobranch conservation regarding chemical contamination alongside potential ecological outcomes for this group and human impacts derived from elasmobranch consumption. Chapter Three congregates information about the morphological traits of crabs to lay a foundation for a better understanding of taxonomic and phylogenetic studies, ecological studies, and the stock assessment and management of commercially important species. Chapter Four shows how foraminiferal associations are influenced by nutrients and abiotic factors that control the carbonate production in the modern outer shelf of Rio Grande do Norte, in the region of Açu Reefs. Chapter Five describes the first satellite tagging research project in the southern Gulf of Mexico for bottlenose dolphins. Chapter Six investigates the threat posed by cutaneous fibropapillomatosis, a tumor that arises on the skin or internal organs of sea turtles and affects up to 97% of this population. Finally, Chapter Seven discusses the eco-biology, exploitation and social aspects related to the common octopus along the Kerkennah Island in the South Center of the Mediterranean Sea.

Pen & Sword Books Ltd The Royal Marines in Russia 1919
At the height of the Russian Civil War in 1919 Britain poured in thousands of troops and vast amounts of munitions to assist the White Russian opponents of Lenin's Communist forces. This was despite exhaustion following the Great War and the Spanish flu epidemic. One man involved was 23-year-old Royal Marines officer, Thomas Henry Jameson. His mission took him and his men on a journey of 5,000 miles from Vladivostok to the battlegrounds not far from Moscow. As part of a White Russian Flotilla they steamed down the huge Kama River and fought a series of successful battles against superior Bolshevik gunboats. Later they were forced to retreat and, becoming cut off behind enemy lines, had to fight their way out knowing that, if captured, they faced summary execution. Eventually after a long and hazardous journey they made it back to their parent ship. Jameson and his Marines faced a multitude of hazards in this cruel civil war including disease which he described as the biggest challe
