Outside the world of children’s literature studies, children’s books by authors of well-known texts "for adults" are often forgotten or marginalized. Although many adults today read contemporary children’s and young adult fiction for pleasure, others continue to see such texts as unsuitable for older audiences, and they are unlikely to cross-read children’s books that were themselves cross-written by authors like Chinua Achebe, Anita Desai, Joy Harjo, or Amy Tan. Meanwhile, these literary voices have produced politically vital works of children’s literature whose complex themes persist across boundaries of expected audience. These works form part of a larger body of activist writing "for children" that has long challenged preconceived notions about the seriousness of such books and ideas about who, in fact, should read them. They Also Write for Kids: Cross-Writing, Activism, and Children’s Literature seeks to draw these cross-writing projects together and bring them to the attention of readers. In doing so, this book invites readers to place children’s literature in conversation with works more typically understood as being for adult audiences, read multiethnic US literature alongside texts by global writers, consider children’s poetry and nonfiction as well as fiction, and read diachronically as well as cross-culturally. These ways of reading offer points of entry into a world of books that refuse to exclude young audiences in scrutinizing topics that range from US settler colonialism and linguistic prejudice to intersectional forms of gender inequality. Crosby's own local newspaper, the Crosby Herald, publishes a regular 'Memories' column that features stories and photographs from the area's past. It is a popular column and made more so because of the endless supply of old photographs provided for it by local collector Tom Heath. In this book, his second series of old images in the series, he again takes readers on a nostalgic tour of the old Merseyside communities of Crosby, Waterloo, Blundellsands, Seaforth and Litherland. Using over 200 photographs, this collection shows, in some detail, how local streets and buildings looked, and how they have changed, over a period of one hundred years. Most of the photographs in the book were taken by the Crosby photographer and stationer Stephen Cushing who died in 1973 and had a studio and shop in Moor Lane Crosby for thirty years. He was a prolific photographer and fortunately much of his work survives today. The images here were almost all selected from the author's own extensive archive of local memorabilia.

Bonhoeffer's academic work is neglected in Bonhoeffer scholarship. The author begins with an examination of Bonhoeffer's dialogue with Barth to find out how both theologians interacted with Luther's "theologia crucis." The conclusion that Bonhoeffer deviates significantly from Barth's theological trajectory leads to another discussion in "Act and Being," this time with Heidegger. J.I. de Keijzer shows how Bonhoeffer borrows from Heidegger's ontology to articulate an alternative "theologia crucis" that is characterized by a greater fidelity to Luther and a theological method that brings Christology, epistemology, hermeneutics, ecclesiology, and ethics together.

Born in 1936 to a large and moderately prosperous farming family, Oeur spent his childhood herding water buffalo and tending rice paddies in the lush Cambodian countryside. He was educated under the French colonial system and selected to attend California State University in Los Angeles. Driven out of Phnom Phen with millions of the city’s residents, Oeur, along with his wife and son, miraculously survived the killing fields, feigning illiteracy and relying upon the skills he had learned as a child to endure six forced-labor camps over the next four years. Millions, however, died during the Khmer Rouge regime, including Oeur’s twin daughters. Since the nineteenth century, scholars have debated the controversial relationships between humanism, the Renaissance and the Reformation. Challenging the dominant narrative on the subject, Giovanni Tortoriello reconstructs the debates that characterized the early Reformation movements. He shows that Martin Luther's theology of the cross developed in reaction to the irenic tendencies of the Renaissance. With the spread of Platonism, Hermeticism, and Kabbalah in the fifteenth century, the identity of Christianity shifted and the boundaries between the different religions thinned. In response to this attempt to minimize the differences among the various religions, Luther reiterated the centrality and uniqueness of the salvific event of the cross. Confessional biases and theological prejudices have obliterated the role that Platonism, Hermeticism, and Christian Kabbalah played in the early Reformation debates. The author reconstructs these controversies and situates Luther's theology of the cross in this historical context.

Today, Nonnus of Panopolis is widely recognized as one of the most interesting and important Greek authors of Late Antiquity. Malaysian Chinese (Mahua) literature is marginalized on several fronts. In the international literary space, which privileges the West, Malaysia is considered remote. The institutions of modern Chinese literature favor mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Within Malaysia, only texts in Malay, the national language, are considered national literature by the state. However, Mahua authors have produced creative and thought-provoking works that have won growing critical recognition, showing Malaysia to be a laboratory for imaginative Chinese writing.Highlighting Mahua literature’s distinctive mode of evolution, Cheow Thia Chan demonstrates that authors’ grasp of their marginality in the world-Chinese literary space has been the impetus for—rather than a barrier to—aesthetic inventiveness. He foregrounds the historical links between Malaysia and other Chinese-speaking regions, tracing how Mahua writers engage in the “worlding” of modern Chinese literature by navigating interconnected literary spaces.
