Johns Hopkins University Press Rethinking Realism in International Relations: Between Tradition and Innovation
This volume draws on the work of international scholars from diverse perspectives to provide a timely, focused debate on the future of realist theory in international relations. Part I presents novel contributions to realist theory building, including suggested elaborations of Mearsheimer's offensive realist variant, a reconsideration of the role of revisionism in structural realist theory, a bridge to the English School of international relations, and a critique of trends in realist theorizing since the end of the Cold War. In part II, structural and neoclassical realists provide empirical analyses of foreign policy behavior, the role of geopolitics, and the grand strategies of major powers. The chapters in part III assess the viability of the ways forward for realism from realist, critical, and feminist perspectives. This tightly integrated intellectual exchange presents a transnational overview of the evolution and potential future of the realist paradigm. The volume editors conclude with an assessment of the current state of realism and suggest ways for the debate to progress.

Edward Elgar Publishing Ltd Handbook of Teaching and Learning at Business Schools: A Practice-Based Approach
This timely Handbook investigates the many perspectives from which to reconsider teaching and learning within business schools, during a time in which higher education is facing challenges to the way teaching might be delivered in the future.Bringing together a diverse range of expert contributors, this Handbook fills gaps in current knowledge and research, whilst expanding and exploring new fields. Topics covered include the use and value of learning technologies, leadership education and continuous professional development of research-based teachers. Crucially, the Handbook considers how faculty at all levels of seniority will be forced to challenge their own modus operandi in designing and delivering teaching. This is especially important during and in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, where blended learning should be carefully assessed before it is adopted as part of any course design.Offering both practical suggestions and cutting-edge research into the field, this Handbook will be a key resource for academics, practitioners and students in business and management education who wish to consolidate their teaching and learning and further understand the broader issues surrounding it.

Edinburgh University Press Contemporary American Drama
This book explores the development of contemporary theatre in the United States in its historical, political and theoretical dimensions. It focuses on representative plays and performance texts that experiment with form and content, discussing influential playwrights and performance artists such as Tennessee Williams, Adrienne Kennedy, Sam Shepard, Tony Kushner, Charles Ludlum, Anna Deavere Smith, Karen Finley and Will Power, alongside avant-garde theatre groups. Saddik traces the development of contemporary drama since 1945, and discusses the cross-cultural impact of postwar British and European innovations on American theatre from the 1950s to the present day in order to examine the performance of American identity. She argues that contemporary American theatre is primarily a postmodern drama of inclusion and diversity that destabilizes the notion of fixed identity and questions the nature of reality. Key features * Examines the influence of international figures such as Aristotle, Brecht, Artaud and Boal who are central to theatre as a discipline * Explores realistic and anti-realistic styles of American drama and their political and social implications, along with key critical terms and movements * Places the complexity of contemporary American drama within its political, sexual and ethnic contexts * Includes rare images from La MaMa Archive/Ellen Stewart Private Collection * Discusses in detail Stairs to the Roof and Camino Real by Tennessee Williams, Death of a Salesman and The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Dutchman and The Slave by Amira Baraka, Funnyhouse of a Negro by Adrienne Kennedy, The Tooth of Crime and True West by Sam Shepherd and American Buffalo by David Mamet as well as a range of other texts and performers.

JCB Mohr (Paul Siebeck) From Roman to Early Christian Cyprus: Studies in Religion and Archaeology
Cyprus was a crossroads in the ancient eastern Mediterranean, a key location between east and west, in which Judaism, Greco-Roman religions, and Christianity intersected, and where Christianity came to flourish. Bringing together scholars of religion and archaeology to study Cyprus in antiquity, this volume's contributions cover a myriad of topics, including the mosaics of Cyprus, its silver treasures, religious tensions between Christians and others, the role of Epiphanius, the story of St. Barnabas, the powerful position of Cyprus as autocephalous within emerging orthodoxy in antiquity, those who used so-called magical texts, those who worked in a harbor, those involved with the transport of building materials, and early representations of Cyprian saints. By drawing on literary, archaeological, and art historical evidence from the first century CE to the medieval period, the volume elucidates the diversity of Christianity in late antique Cyprus, while also discussing relations between Christians, Jews, and members of Greco-Roman religions.

JCB Mohr (Paul Siebeck) Picturing the New Testament: Studies in Ancient Visual Images
How do visual images from the ancient world shed light on New Testament texts? In a methodologically multifaceted manner, the contributions in this volume examine early Christian images with regard to their ancient context. Various New Testament texts (the synoptic gospels, the Johannine and Pauline corpora) are linked to ancient visual images. Various approaches in iconography are summarized and applied to the interpretation of texts, taking account of the strengths and limitations of these images, as well as possible future applications. These essays incorporate current viewpoints from archaeology and the history of art. The topics range from studies of the depictions of Christ and the disciples to the images of humans and the world. This volume provides an innovative basis for the discussion of the iconographic method and the New Testament.

Everyman The Babur Nama
A lost inheritance, a rags-to-riches journey from vagabondage in the mountains of central Asia to an imperial throne in India, warrior-poet Babur's life was one of adventure and endurance against the odds. Descended from both Genghis Khan and Timur, Babur came to the throne of a small principality at the age of eleven; ten years of warfare later, he would lose it for ever to Uzbek invaders. A lucky break led to the capture of Kabul, from which he carved out a new state for himself in Afghanistan. Just over twenty years later, he was ready for the biggest throw of all - no less than an invasion of India. He recorded his own story pretty much as it happened with startling immediacy and a winning frankness: it was the crowning achievement of a rich tradition of Islamic autobiography. There is history and politics here aplenty, but what is most striking about Babur's memoirs is the man they reveal - ambitious but modest and self-critical, deeply attached to friends and family, homesick amongst the treasures of India, sensitive to the beauties of nature and extremely fond of a party. He paints a fascinating portrait of a sophisticated and cultured Persian-Turkic society. As violent for political ends as many a European Renaissance ruler, Babur could order a massacre and return home to write a ghazal. Everywhere he went he created beautiful gardens. There are insights into the role of women in such a society; of Babur's several wives, but particularly the older women of his family, who commanded respect and exercised considerable influence. Four years after his Indian conquest, Babur swore to give his own life if his eldest son recovered from a dangerous illness. Humayun pulled through, and in a few months Babur was dead. But he had laid the foundations of the greatest, wealthiest and most populous of the world's Muslim-ruled empires.

Hatje Cantz Sean Scully (Bilingual edition): Material World
Creating works with a fascinating range of tone and expression, Sean Scully’s oeuvre is a continuous exploration of his core motif of lines and swaths of color. Captivating the observer through an uncertainty of edges and brushstrokes that appear to exalt the materiality of paint, pigment, and abstraction, Scully experiments with a variety of media and materials. Material World provides insight into the artist’s practice and stylistic approach, which have evolved through a sustained engagement with the art historical tradition of Formalism. In an in-depth essay, Raphy Sarkissian situates Sean Scully’s art in dialogue with selected works of abstract and figurative, modern and pre-modern painting and sculpture, as well as with aesthetic theories. This dialogue translates further into the interplay of the museum’s architecture and the Neoclassical sculptures presented alongside Scully’s work.

University of British Columbia Press Family Law in Action: Divorce and Inequality in Quebec and France
The right to divorce is a symbol of individual liberty and gender equality under the law, but in practice it is anything but equitable. Family Law in Action reveals the class and gender inequalities embedded in the process of separation and its aftermath in Quebec and France. Drawing on empirical research conducted on their respective court and welfare systems, Emilie Biland analyzes how men and women in both places encounter the law and its representatives in ways that affect their personal and professional lives. While gender inequality is less pronounced in Quebec than in France, and class inequality is starker, in both national contexts inequalities after breakups are driven by the same three mechanisms: access to the law and justice, interactions with legal professionals, and the ways these two factors shape lifestyle and standard of living. Family Law in Action is a rigorous but compassionate study that encourages governments to make good on the emancipatory promise enshrined in divorce law.
