This book is the history of V./(Z)LG 1, a Zerstörergruppe (destroyer-group) which, like most of the Luftwaffe destroyer units equipped with the Messerschmitt Bf 110 twin-engined heavy fighter, was disbanded at the end of 1940 after suffering devastating losses during the Battle of Britain. From the remnants of these Zerstörer units evolved night-fighter units; in this case I./Nachtjagdgeschwader 3 which was derived from V./(Z)LG 1. Only a few of the airmen who continued to fly operationally survived the end of the war. Covered are all air operations during the campaigns in Poland, France, and in particular detail the Battle of Britain, where the unit suffered heavy casualties that led to their reformation in October 1940 as I./NJG 3. Included are over 500 photographs from the personal archives of surviving air- and groundcrewmen – nearly all are previously unpublished. Detailed appendices list casualties, air operations, documents and other data.

Implementations are offered in increasing difficulty (non-pipelined, pipelined, deeply pipelined, multi-threaded, multicore).Each implementation is shown as a High-Level Synthesis (HLS) code in C++. This facilitates synthesis and testing on an FPGA-based development board (Such a board can be freely obtained from the Xilinx University Program targeting university professors).The book can be useful for several reasons. First, it is a novel way to introduce computer architecture: The codes given can serve as labs for a processor architecture course. Second, the book content is based on the RISC-V Instruction Set Architecture, which is an open-source machine language promising to become the main machine language to be taught, replacing DLX and MIPS. Third, all the designs are implemented through the HLS tool, which is able to translate a C program into an intellectual property (IP). AD 45–120, was born at Chaeronea in Boeotia in central Greece, studied philosophy at Athens, and, after coming to Rome as a teacher in philosophy, was given consular rank by the emperor Trajan and a procuratorship in Greece by Hadrian. He was married and the father of one daughter and four sons. He appears as a man of kindly character and independent thought, studious and learned. Plutarch wrote on many subjects. Most popular have always been the forty-six Parallel Lives, biographies planned to be ethical examples in pairs (in each pair, one Greek figure and one similar Roman), though the last four lives are single. All are invaluable sources of our knowledge of the lives and characters of Greek and Roman statesmen, soldiers, and orators. Plutarch's many other varied extant works, about sixty in number, are known as Moralia or Moral Essays. They are of high literary value, besides being of great use to people interested in philosophy, ethics, and religion. The Loeb Classical Library edition of the Lives is in eleven volumes.

Khnumhotep I was the first governer of the Oryx nome during Egypt’s formative Twelfth Dynasty. Appointed by Amenemhat I, his tomb at Beni Hassan is one of the most significant for its insights on a pivotal period in Egyptian history. For the first time since Newberry's publication in 1893, a record of the tomb and its preserved scenes and inscriptions is provided in colour photographs and detailed line drawings. The report includes a description of the tomb’s architecture, its various scenes on daily life, desert-hunting and militaristic activities, as well as a new copy and translation of Khnumhotep I’s biography.

Local government has undergone significant changes since the early 1970s. Firstly, in 1974, the county boroughs, urban districts and rural districts were replaced by district or borough councils operating under county councils. At this time local authorities were responsible for the operation of a large number of services within their boundaries including road construction, maintenance and cleansing; refuse collection and disposal; parks and playing fields; as well as education and social services. In the 1980s competitive tendering saw many services either contracted out to private companies or operated by in-house direct labour organisations. From 1996 another reorganisation saw the creation of many unitary authorities responsible for all services in the area – in much the same way that county borough councils operated until 1974. A large variety of vehicles, from pedestrian-operated pavement sweepers to maximum capacity articulated units, were used on these duties. This book looks at some of the vehicles in use by local authorities, from Devon to Scotland, since the 1970s.

Sir Peter le Page Renouf (1822-97), a Guernseyman, was described by Lord Acton as "the most learned Englishman I know". The remarkable collection of his surviving letters covers Renouf's varied career from his days as a student in Oxford, his time as a lecturer in the 1850s at the new Catholic University in Dublin until after his retirement as Keeper of Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities at the British Museum. The letters in volume three cover Renouf's years in Dublin. He had been invited by John Henry Newman to be a lecturer in French at the opening of the Catholic University, which was later to become University College Dublin. He was subsequently appointed Professor of Ancient History and Geography. In his letters to his family he provides a vivid impression of life in the early years of the university. During this time he married Ludovica Brentano of Aschaffenburg, Germany, niece of the poet Clemens Brentano, and they started a family. On the low salary of the Catholic University, the young couple found it very difficult to make ends meet. Renouf's talents in Egyptology become apparent and he edited the "Atlantis", the university's own journal, and then helped with the editing of Sir John Dalberg Acton's "Home and Foreign Review". His extensive correspondence with Acton is included in this volume. In 1864, Acton helps to obtain a post for Renouf in England as Inspector of Schools.

An RCMP sting caught Nicole Doucet (Ryan) trying to hire a hitman to kill her ex-husband. It was supposed to be an open-and-shut case. It wasn’t.No Legal Way Out details the judicial process, media coverage, and legal implications of R v Ryan. Appealed up to the Supreme Court of Canada, Doucet’s initial acquittal – on the basis of duress in the context of abuse – was overturned, but a stay of proceedings meant that she could not be tried again.
